Author Craft / Re: Who's going to participate in NANO this year?
« on: September 24, 2007, 04:48:37 AM »
I plan to do, and it'll be the first year. Hell yes.

First I have another novel to finish, and the start of Nano is acting as my deadline for it. :D

There's more Fae than that! :)

How about Holly Black's Tithe and its sequels.
Laurell Hamilton's Merry Gentry...
Melissa Marr's Wicked Lovely, which had a lot of advertising on Locus's website for a while.

EDIT: Or do you mean fae that's not young adult? That's more rare to find...

Me, I think they're a little overdone. But I just like various mythologies rather than the same monsters.

Who cares what anyone says. If it's got you dragged in, write it. :)

Kate Beckinsale, bodysuit. Gahh.

I noticed that, Stuart, and I think they look badass. :D

Wired's cover got me to glance at in the store before I even heard about this line, but the romantic leanings made me feel cautious.

The books on there all have a bit of romance. That's something to keep in mind.

I'm often a little reluctant to read romance... but... those covers! Holy heck those covers look cool. I like anime, can you guess? :P

It might have been one of the Jim's-mentor-chain books which said "Make your antagonist more ruthless than your hero." :D

Villains are way more interesting when they're sympathetic or kind of sort of likable. Me and a friend have to mention Hannibal Lector in almost every conversation we have. He's nice... intelligent... friendly... but he eats people! Conniving subtle evil is more... compelling than bloodthirsty demonicism.

But they're all cool. :D

I'm not sure, but I think you have to get the copyright.

Maybe it's different if you use less of the song? I'm not actually sure.

Searches are way too much fun.

For a synopsis of a miniseries, Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns has one as a sort of afterword. It's not what you mean, but it might be useful.

On an Amazon search, there's "Panel One: Comic Book Scripts By Top Writers" which seems like what you want. Seems there's a lot of different ways!

Here's another link, he writes them like scripts:

Writing them like scripts is probably the safest thing to do. :)

Author Craft / Re: Controversial Topics

Hmm, let me think... politics, religion, climate change, mythologies...

Yeah. Sounds like controversial material.

I like to think I'm delicate with it, but I'm not so sure. I do try and treat the subjects with the respect they deserve, though, not for shock value. Some of the reason for that is I like to get nice and deep into what I do. It's ambitious, what the heck. :D

Do you know the main news sites, like Superherohype and Newsarama? You can probably find things from there. That, or hunt down books or interviews with writers. I can't think of too many right now, but a search across Amazon could probably find some of them.

Much much stuff that I don't want to think too much about; I say they're "shelved" but they all suck.

The newer stuff, I have 1 40K contemporary fantasy novella, 1 100K fantasy novel, 1 90K science fiction novel, and I'm working on a 80-90K novel, of, I like to think, increasing quality.

I'm planning on writing a 50K Nano in November and another 90-100K novel this year. ;)

... It sounds like a lot when I say it that way. It isn't, really.  :o

Woot, some actual information about the Unseelie Accords!

It sounds like the 'tempt' mechanics (Dark Side points :P) actually can... tempt. They don't create an instant bad guy, which is appropriate for the Dresden setting and all, and actually have uses. The suggestions for possible games rock, too.

It seems cool to me and the tone rocks. It's a good read. :)

That's rather original, Neurovore, about the stalker song. Psychological warfare versus yourself!

Hey... jazz would actually do very nicely for some of my novels. Cool suggestion.

Celldweller sounds like Rammstein to me, blgarver. For power rock Ilike Sonata Arctica... I just like their music in general, hehe. The Wikipedia helps me look for more music, so that's something you could try. :D

I usually listen to instrumentals. :)

Video game soundtracks, mostly, like Symphony of the Night, Lunar II and anything from OCRemix. I've been listening to my classicals more, too.

Have any definition for Celldweller? Dark gothic? Power rock? :)

Cool as usual. Nice to hear you, Priscellie!

Some of the conversation sounded quiet, around the 33, 34 minute area? I can't find it now.
