Cinder Spires Spoilers / Re: Olympian Affair (Spoilers All)
« on: November 15, 2023, 11:44:53 AM »

Also weird that Dependence would have been a colony spire of Albion, on the other side of Auroran airspace.  Real questionable move to put a lightly defended outpost on the far side of the enemy capital.
Unless an important reason is to spy on aurora and give Albion trading vessels a safe port from pirates in an otherwise hostile area?

Perhaps the spire arch also wanted to have a tempting Albion target for aurora to attack that they could afford loosing, but which would press the Parliament to agree to war?

I think it is a really impressive thread. By which I mean that I am impressed by how long it keeps going on, not saying it is thin.

I can't remember reading that Harry ever uses his staff one handed. He is a tall guy, so it must be a pretty long staff. Unless there is a quote that says otherwise I think he always uses two hands when there is a physical action scene with it.

I am going to go with the positive: maybe it is because there are negotiatings for a high quality series on Amazon prime (if that is the name of their streaming service). And this is part of those negotiations. I have not followed the news about the lord of the rings series, but it sounds like they take it serious.

I am really happy I started reading the series. I have had a really great time on all my around seven end to end read/listen throughs. Of course I really look forward to the next book and the end of the series. But for me it is not as much about the destination as it is about the journey.

Buying an audiobook cost me the same as about ten liters of milk, so I will continue to buy them as soon as they come out no matter the frequency.

I hope he writes them the way he thinks it is the best for him to write, I think it will be best books that way. We don't know enough about the content of the future books to tell which ones are not really nessecary. Which ones of the case files that he has written do you think he should have skipped?

Morriswalters, yes, but with the topic name it seemed like the purpose was to write the scenario that we each think is the most likely.

As I remember it LTW turned into a giant owl when he stopped of the roof in the beginning. I was thinking of when he flew towards the front line as an eagle and then turned into an elephant (in the fight where Harry makes the big ice wall).

Regardless the world's largest eagle weights 4.6 kg and has a wingspan of up to two meters. Even a giant owl seems like it would be reduction in mass.

7
The eagle that listens to wind is shape shifting into is not described as a giant eagle, so I guess he is loosing quite a lot of weight, a big female Golden eagle with a 2,5 meter wingspan weights 7 kg. Blood on his Soul is both from the race that LTW learned shape shifting from and he was in the nevernever.

Afterwards, maybe he took the long way out and found a place where he knew how to cross over, similar to how Thomas can cross over in places of lust.

8
I think the most likely scenario is that blood on his Soul shape shifted into something that could handle being crushed, such as an insect. And then shape shifted back afterwards.

Personally I am really happy to get anything substantial from Butcher and is willing to pay what it takes to get it.

But I think audible offers the first credit for free, so maybe that means anyone can get this one for free if they are willing to make an account?

Maybe it could be two videos? 8ne where you 8nly have the couple of seconds to say thanks and one with a minute to say a bit more about how happy you are for the books?

I am in :-)

I have a kid named Odin, but not specifically from Vadderung. But I do look forward to when my wife and I get to the parts where he is in (after ten years of me recommending it she has just started listening Dresden files together with me)

I guess you could argue that the coins are very convenient to transport to the site of the darkhallow, but of course eating a fallen is probably too much for most even with a lot of preparation.

As far as we know immortals can be killed by the eye and on Halloween. And some? Maybe only the fairy queens, can be killed on the stone table.

This is in contrast to e.g. Denarians who can be killed all the time and by normal means.

Bob is clear in the distinction in Cold Days in the conversation where he tells Harry he cannot kill Maeve because she is immortal.

But that is not immortal. There is lots of creatures in the series that do not age. All of the vampires as far as I can tell. And all the fairies. Immortal is when you can get cut into a thousand pieces and get better. Or be beaten in a duel with a titan and still deliver presents for Christmas (unless you get blasted with the eye that is special because it can kill immortals)

Harry would not have become immortal by picking up the coin. At least the other Denarians do not seem to be immortal because they are dying all the time. Maybe Blood on his Soul (or what the name of the evil Bigfoot was) is immortal, but it is not from the coin, since his first host died just fine.

The list of immortal "people" is pretty short.
