DF Spoilers / Re: Star Born (direct quotes compilation)
« on: February 20, 2022, 09:49:29 AM »
Well, Micheal once said he is not the carpenter who sets the standard, but maybe he is? I.e. he will be a part of the second sacrifice. Maybe that was why Uriel loaned him his grace.

Maybe in combination with all the baddies from Demonreach. Then there is power and one pure heart to bear the sins of the world.

I don't really think so, but it would be painfull.

All it took to stop his rage was the direct involvement of an angel who was allowed to do so because Butters believed it would work. That is a pretty wild rage.

Regarding starborn and Drakul, did Mavra not say that Starborn are for the master and that they are for the stars and stones?

So we have hells bells, which are probably literal
Then there is empty night which I think is what happens if the outsiders get in.
But then there is also starts and stones which must be Starborn related

The temptation to use black magic to reshape the world is also quite clear in the first book.

Storm Front, chapter 24.

I have always thought this section was the Harry is momentarily mad with dark power, of course he cannot beat Morgan at this point, much less the entire white council.

Also, wauw this is a great thread :-)

DF Spoilers / Re: Harry Listening

Can anyone remember the book with the conversation between Rashid and Harry? For most of the books I only have them as audiobooks and it does not really lend itself to searching.

DF Spoilers / Harry Listening

So Harry has this ability to listen better than a normal person, he thinks it might be magic but is not sure.

Have there been some good theories on what it is?

I am not sure how often he mentions it. I am sure he does it in Dead Beat. But it feels like he has done it less in the newer books.

Marcone does not strike me as a man who loves something, magic or knife throwing for it's own sake. But he loves it for the power it gives him. As opposed to Harry who loves magic for it's own sake.

Harry spent all of his life on not taking the wrong kind of power up and mostly succeeded untill the point where he touched a coin briefly to save a baby. Then he never picked up the coin for real and only took bits and pieces of power from the shadow when strictly necessary.

I imagine Marcone got hold of the coin, sat alone in a room and carefully considered it and decided he wanted more power than he currently had because he would need it to continue growing in power. And the he took it in as fast as he possibly could.

It could almost not be more different. As a result I am quite sure that it would be extremely hard for Marcone to put down the coin.

I feel confident that Mab can find some way to get revenge, also on a Denarian. I don't think the revenge would be targeting Marcone, he is just a bystander to Namshiel. He was not the host when artist Tor was attacked. He might still get hit, but the revenge would not be designed for him.

But I am not sure she knows which Denarian it is that Marcone has taken up and she does not have something to settle with all of them. So for now I don't think she is going after him.

It seems unlikely, but extremely hardcore!

DF Spoilers / Re: Battle Ground foreshadowing
« on: January 24, 2022, 07:04:19 PM »
A lot of beings are said to have nine lives, some people believe the white god is one such being which has been part of ehe series for a long time.

At least Molly believes she is immortal. In battle ground she told Harry she could go through a wood chipper and she would get better.

It was not the breaking down of reality, it was being hit by the eye itself. If she had waited by Odin, the Earl King and Titania's bodies, put them in a pile and blasted them when it was ready then they would have been dead. Or if she had managed to  hit Mab a second time

I think Listen is the sort of ice cream who brings his own freezer along, he seems very survival oriented so I can't imagine we have seen the last of him.

I think King Corb is salty bacon ice cream, the person making it thinks it is a great idea, but it is definitely bad taste.

On whether it was a good idea to let Harry communicate with the British prisoner. I guess 7t was a chance. If Harry can get Thomas out quickly it probably won't matter much. If Harry had died an Thomas was stuck there for 50+ years, maybe talking with a possible villain a couple of times a year is better than nothing.

DF Spoilers / Re: The Gods of Pro Wrestling

It could also be that it is the wrestling book in the same way that ghost story was the detective being locked up with the prisoners-book.

It could be an arena in the nevernever where gods fight, everyone is immortal, but something else is on the line. Or maybe there is an event every 1000 years and the winner gets x, or maybe it is supposed to be safe but now one god killed another and Dresden has to figure out what happened.

Or bring the army. I think it was a point made several times in battle ground that large groups of armed people are dangerous. The army being the clearest example, but also the volunteers and the gang neighborhoods.

During the attack Harry Dresden showed his true colours as a warlock in a display so much the essence of a fire inclined warlock (throwing a fireball on a group of mortals standing in the open) that it is highly likely to be his planned defiance of the council as it falls at exactly the same time as he has fully established his power base and unveiled the power of the island.

At least that is the most paranoid interpretation of it I can think up :-)

There should also be something on the ice wall that for a short time stopped the entire group of Jotuns and about surviving Drakul.

I am not sure the council would recognize that he mad Odin are loose allies from the events.

I would also guess that they are not surprised about that Molly has an army, she is the winter lady after all. But perhaps at her and Mabs personal power

I think this is the most likely. Given that Lea says betrayal is in the nature of the Foot and the world just have to be shown (in that short story with Molly) Man must have expected treachery from the fomor. Even if she was not sure of they had an immortal backing them doing it in Chicago ensured Harry, Marcone and Lara would be ready to fight at their best. And I think they are all three opponents that the fomor would underestimate because they are the most mortal.

Perhaps Mab could also see Marcone rising in power and would like to see what he pulled out of his hat when he was really pushed.

I can definitely see nemesis pulling string to ensure that Ethniu got the titanic bronze and/or the eye. I think she needed both to be a threat to all of the accorded nations working together.

DF Spoilers / Re: Harry creates a portal to Demonreach!

I am thinking that the outer gates are keeping something bad out and Demonreach is keeping something in, and as a result they would not be close.
