DFRPG / [Examples In Play?] Power: Guide My Hand
« on: November 01, 2011, 05:53:52 AM »
Interested in seeing how you guys have 'Guide My Hand' in play. Have a Knight-type player and I'd like to see to see how GMs are players are using it to further a storyline or campaign. Cheers!

DFRPG / [Potion] The Sight
« on: September 25, 2011, 03:42:18 AM »
Had a sitch where the enchanter in the group declared a potion that gives him the ability to use The Sight - a power he did not have. Since it's just a special form of perception & assessment, about gaining knowledge not otherwise attainable, ect ect, I thought this seemed reasonable for a potion. He had a maximum potion strength of 6 with 2 doses, I told him it had to have a minimum strength of 5 if he wanted to use his Lore (which was at 5) at its maximum to assess... he didn't automatically get an understanding of what he was seeing, the potion just allowed him to use magesight - once he had opened his potion-induced third eye, it was normal Sight rules after that.

Does this seem kosher?

DFRPG / [Rules] Fists vs Weapons Knowledge
« on: September 01, 2011, 07:14:35 AM »
Has there ever been a rationale that explains why it is that Fists requires a Martial Arts stunt to do what the Weapons skill can do with the Weapons Knowledge trapping?

I can understand intuitively why the stunt is required for fists, but why it wouldn't be the same for Weapons?

DFRPG / [Map Resources] Free! Modern architecture floorplans
« on: August 23, 2011, 09:33:32 PM »
I'm always hunting around for maps and I came across this site while looking for resources on an opera house that I was going to set an encounter in; I link to that specific page because it is an example of the kind of floorplans that are available, plus photos from all vantage points & views. Hope it's not out of place to put a link here, but wanted to share with the rest of you who may be looking for a similar resource. There're tons of modern buildings & hard to find plans for things like museums, exhibition halls, that sort of thing.

If anyone has any other favourites I'd love to hear about them...

DFRPG / [Marked By Power] Does anyone else houserule this to 0?
« on: August 22, 2011, 03:55:23 AM »
Because as I see it, the power is as equally rife with liability as it is with benefit - if played right. Hoping to hear arguments against it as I'm set to mark it down to 0 in my game.

DFRPG / [Enchanted Items] Legal to have 2 maneuvers in a single slot?
« on: August 21, 2011, 09:13:27 PM »
Have been presented with a design idea that fires off 2 maneuvers when an item slot is activated - it is six shifts of power, so, good for 2 maneuvers - is this legal? I know evocation wise, you don't fire off 2 multiple spells at the same time, but maybe it is possible through thaumaturgy? My initial feeling is no, it isn't legal, but who knows? So  I thought I'd consult with the Powers That Be who inhabit the board :)

The maneuvers that are being proposed refer to it being sharp and the blade being wielded with a purpose - the intent is to tag each of them for a +4 to the next action.

DFRPG / [Magic] How To Do A "Force Pull"
« on: August 17, 2011, 06:54:17 PM »
Hey guys, so how would you simulate a Force Pull with a spell? I want to pull something small into my hand from across a distance - is it just a spirit or air maneuver "Gotcha!" or is that more Thurmaturgical in nature?  What if it was a person who doesn't want to be pulled (then there is obviously an opposing roll in there somewhere)?

DFRPG / Math on "Diane's Cuppas"
« on: August 06, 2011, 01:56:23 PM »
'Morning folks.

The math on Diane's Cuppas on YS387 - how does she get a 5 shift potion effect?

I count 3:
2 from Lore
1 from her hazel wood wand

Thanks in advance...

As per YS253 - that's the only place I see where assessment is described as a free action. Is counterspelling the only time where this is so?

DFRPG / List of who/what Thresholds affect?
« on: August 02, 2011, 09:03:26 PM »
I've been searching today but can't seem to find an "authoritative" list of the Who's Who That Thresholds Stop From Dropping In For A Visit, or is it *all* supernatural? Trying to figure out why it is that vampires need an invite and werewolves don't. I'd also expect fey to have a hard time coming in to say hello.

DFRPG / YS125: Attack is undermining your faith (God, magic, friends)
« on: August 01, 2011, 09:42:25 PM »
I was reading over this and wondered... if that was a PC making the attack, what skill/trapping would he be using?

If it was in an aggressive, overbearing manner - Intimidation?
And if it was a reasoned attack - as in to make someone see the sense in a situation - Empathy?

DFRPG / [Aspects] A Wizard Apprentice With Control Issues
« on: July 28, 2011, 07:04:21 PM »
Any suggestions for a wizard apprentice type with power control issues? :) I've got a few but you folks tend to come up some waaaaay better suggestions! It should lead to much hilarity and unintended violent consequences.

Thanks muchly in advance...!

DFRPG / Math On Potion Examples
« on: July 18, 2011, 06:44:20 AM »
I'm OK with most of the math on the potion examples starting YS303 - a bit tangled up in a couple of them.

Ghost Dust vs Sunburst In A Hanky
Both are duration instantaneous
Both satisfy a specialty Catch on their intended targets (ghosts, photophobic vamps)

But Ghost Dust is a Weapon:4, and Sunburst is a Weapon:3. Assuming the caster creating it is of equal skill level (Harry has Lore 3 in the examples), and the effect strength is based on the lore of the caster (as per notes in the Sunburst example) shouldn't the Ghost Dust be Weapon:3 as well?

Durations
How was the duration worked out for a potion like Scent Suppression?

Thanks in advance...

DFRPG / Aspect Suggestions: Investigator, Puzzle Solver...
« on: July 15, 2011, 09:25:57 PM »
Looking for some poetic Aspects that describe an instinct for picking out clues, pieces of the puzzle, noticing things that others don't notice. Any ideas or cool catchphrases?

DFRPG / Potions... items... useable by others?
« on: July 12, 2011, 07:43:56 PM »
Potions... items... useable by others?

Not clear on this. Can a crafter make potions for others? Or items? Am I missing the big section in the rules that explicitly explains how this goes? i.e. Luccio is able to craft a sword for others to use. In the stories, Susan has drank one of the potions that Harry makes.

I thought I had read something about paying FATE points for sharing but it turned out that was tied to IoPs.

Thanks in advance for the clarifications folks.
