Ebenezars journal.

"...seems clear that he had no idea of the islands original purpose. I sometimes can't help but think that there is such a thing as fate - or atleast a higher power of some sort attempting to arrange events in our favour despite everything we in our ignorance do to thwart it. The Merlin has demanded that we put the boy under surveillance at once. I think he's a damned fool.
Rashid says that warning him about the island would be pointless. He's a good judge of people but I'm not so sure he's right this time. The boys got a solid head on his shoulders generally. And of all the wizards I know he's among the three or four I'd be willing to see take up that particular mantle
 I trust his judgement.
But then again I trusted Maggie's too."

So The Merlin's a dick but I can understand his fear.

Ebenezar thinks fatw may have given Harry the island but also he thinks he could be another Maggie.

Rashids doing his usual let events unfold.

But the points I want to home in on.

1. Whose the other 2 or 3 wizards eb would trust?
2. Ebenezar specifically says 'mantle'

Confirmation Demon Reach is a MANTLE!

Honestly, I don't think I effectively can...

I only have the paper hardcopy books, I think I'd need searchable e-books to find all the instances of supernaturals & thresholds & the various expositions & tidbits from Harry & Bob (and with the shorts, Molly & Thomas (and maybe others?)) ...

I mean I do have all the e-books and don't think I effectively can.

I think the point was Tartarus was a prison for Titans, Elder Gods, Demons and Monsters. Just like Demonreach is.

Interestingly there's a similar concept in Paranet Papers. Vegas has trapped an Elder God Being thats trapped by another Being who feeds off of sin. Basically any time in history a city has been known as a den of inequity Babylon, Rome etc it feeds and strengthens a bad god whose purpose is to keep an even worst destroyer from escaping.

There's also a section where The Lords of Outer Night became Gods themselves by imprisoning and feeding off of other gods. Thomas tries to erase it from the book unsuccesfully as a Venatore.

Anyway point is imprisoning powerful beings is common recurring motif in myth and in Dresden Files. I assume Cerberus is a Guardian in his own right whose duty it is to well be a Warden/Guard who imprisons and catches escapee's.

If the spirit of the Nemean lion has escaped, could it have taken up residence in Mister? Would anyone including Mister notice the difference? Why else enlist Mouse? Jim has finally got around to commenting on Misters Age (18 in the time-line) perhaps this is a way of extending it? The Nimean Lion’s spirit seeks out the body of the most powerful ‘big’ cat in the mortal realm and that happens to be Harry Dresden’s housecat which rules him (and Mouse) with a will of iron. Mister is used to cohabiting with Supernatural spirits, so it might surprise The Lion and Mister has the upper hand, especially if catnip is involved.

If Cereberus is coming to Chicago then there is a Way reachable to Mouse other than Marcone’s bank, unless of course Cereberus bites through the iron bars of Hades personal vault and waits patiently for the main vault door to open.

I like it. Don't think thats whats gonna happen but it would make a good story in its own right. I think Mister being the hero and being unimpressed about it could work though.

Where did Jim comment on Misters age?

Also the Marcone Hades Vault thing.
1. That was part of the trials to access the vault one of the most secure realms of Hades short of Tartarus. The analogues between Demonreach and Tartarus are there.
2. There are presumably other Ways in and out of Hades, that aren't directly tied to the vault. Particularly for a mythic beast like Cerberus.

I think he might have well confused the Merlin/Etienne Bromance but not Malcolm. He might have been knocking around 1200 because that may have been a point when he created Demonreach, probably the last. Everything major would have been in Demonreach by this point, except Ethnui.

I mean Merlin was what Fall of Rome to William the Conqueror from on the outside 500 ad till after 1066? Long even for a Wizards life time but even if its the standard 3 to 400. Capping at around 900 ad.

Etienne could have lived from 900 ad to 1200 ad. Could have been an apprentice or younger colleague of Merlin

In my headcanon Hercules regularly gifted Uncle Hades as the only sane one in the family. Hercules 'wrestling' Cerberus was actually giving him a belly rub.

Nope. Jim's latest interview he says that Harry isn't bloodline related to Merlin just from the same magical school from Master to Apprentice.

DF Spoilers / Historical events with a Supernatural tinge/twist
« on: August 19, 2022, 06:00:54 AM »
So been awhile since we've done one of these directly and I haven't done one in depth since Battle Ground I don't think.

So what is your favourite historical event that you think could/would have had a supernatural influence.

1. Kemmler- World Wars. Luccio was hunting down Society of Thule. Probaby the one we now most about. Paranet Papers has a section devoted to Simon Pietrovich and the Russian Revolutions' side of things as well. Black Court Purge included which brings us to new information in Battle Ground. Drakul seems to have gathered the remaining Black Court Elders and survivors as his own personal spec ops squad, he also refers to the Battle as a minor skirmish. Put these together and it's safe to assume Drakul was involved in the World Wars, which by their standards Battle of the Bean rpobably was a minor skirmish. Also for those of us who've read The Law
(click to show/hide)

2.OG Merlin/Mab- Biggest reveal would be that Mab 'rode with the conqueror' i.e. William The Conqueror which is when the estrangement with Titania after the Battle of Hastings occurred. When she was still mortal and sprouting pimples. She was in love with the OG Merlin. Otherwise we've got references to him being taught by Vadderung, saving sacred scrolls in Alexandria, forming the Vatican Church creating Demonreach and of course Arthurian legend.

3.Fae were or atleast their precursors in the Tuatha were crucial in taking down atleast some of the Titans Ethniu's Old Man included. Ancient Blood Fued included. Probably some ties to the Venatori there. Hopefully we get to see Lugh soon.

4. River Shoulders brief summary of Bigfoot history about Grendelkin and 'Beowulfs' leading of the early Vikings into a warrior culture.

5. Lara Raith was in Japan for a century when they weren't exactly welcoming foreigners.

6. Nothing new on the Seven Years War/ American Revolution saga.

7. Cortez was powerful enough to take on the Red Court, the last time they gathered in power at Chitzen Icta also Duke Ortega was a conquistador. kinda of a hate/hate relationship with his wife as a result.

8. Blackstaff events. I don't have the list in front of me Krakatoa, Tunguska and Madrid are the ones I remember.

9.White Court-Etrsucan.

10. Luccio hunting down the Soceity of Thule. Met Wyatt Earp who was a venatore.

Lemme know if there's anything I've forgot. Discuss. But as the best threads often need a question.

What historical event do you think had significant Supernatural influence?

DF Spoilers / Re: In defense of the WC

Well I mean to be fair Harry played the debt card on Molly first. Harry demanded through his duty to Winter that Winter help the citizens of Chicago due to his actions in the Battle and locking up Ethniu. It allowed Molly to intercede for Winter during Christmas despite triggering and interfering with Kringle's territory. Plus Molly did save Harry's ass when Harry almost publicly told Mab to go screw herself for trying to force Harry into a Marriage with Lara Wraith.

Point being that Harry and Molly are settling into the whole debt dance where they both come out on top and maneuver for the best thing for most people.

Well done on your first post. Good topic to break out with.

So yeah generally accepted theory is everyone of the older members of the Council has Kemmler trauma. Morgan in particular.

If you read Luccio's short story theirs some more hitns there. Kemmler formed the Thule Soceity. Which was an actual fascist occult secret soceity. Part of him building up World War 1.

There's also a section in Paranet Papers that covers Simon Pietrovich and his role leading up to and including the Russian Revolution. Black Court Purge included but also that Pietrovich almost got taken out by the Blackstaff despite several warnings.

DF Spoilers / Re: Ramp vs Whamp origins

Paranet Papers has a section on Red Court origins. Basically Red Courts started being worshiped by a tribe as gods, then they captured another tribes actual gods and started feeding off of them. You are what you eat. Bo The Red Court attained actual godhood by feeding off of other Gods.

Said Gods escaped their imprisonment once the Red Court fell. They're left largely nameless but Thomas has a Venatori interest in them trying to confiscate the knowledge section

If you were a Minor Talent in Dresden Files what would your Talent be?

Unfortunately I think mine would be Third Sight.
