DF Spoilers / Re: White Council Top Members
« on: Yesterday at 09:54:23 PM »

It depends on their area of expertise,  we've seen what the Merlin can do, Eb, Listens to Wind, and Lord only knows what Rashid can do if pressed..  Of all of them I think Rashid get's the prize because you don't get to be a general at the Outer Gates if you are a butterfly..  Considering the deference he usually gets when he does show up to Council meetings, he is the strongest, the most dangerous, and everyone else knows it.   Actually out of all the wizards on the Senior Council, he and Harry have the most in common.

Agreed. Also somewhat supported by WOJ that Rashid was the last one to do what Harry's doing now, and by Rashid himself in Cold Days in that he knows "precisely" how it feels to be where Harry is now.

Ebenezar would be a close second, not just cause Grandfather relation but because Harry believes in everything he does believe in because of Ebenezar. True meaning of magic is to protect people.

Is Klaus still alive?  I know Jim mentioned him, but it was during WW2 wasn't it?  He might not be around anymore.
Yeah Ebenezar says Klaus turned down the Senior Council spot in Turn Coat to make room for Cristos.
If Carlos, Bill, Yoshimo and Chandler were all considered Elite Wardens enough to be the Senior Councils bodyguards, and Harry outranks them all that alone puts him in the top 10.

At the very least of the Wizards we know. Sure their may be some Battle Hardened Loner on the outskirts... oh wait that's Harry.

Admittedly I am talking exclusively Combat here.

I'm willing to admit overall power there are wizards with centuries of knowledge and experience.

There's also Harry's assistance with the Little Folk he offered it off his own back and several heavyweights were impressed by it.

River Shoulder's likely wouldn't have involved himself without Harry.

Butters wouldn't be a Knight without him as well. Under Fae law he could be considered in Harry's entourage. Maybe Santa or atleast a positive relationship with The White Gods forces. Harry suggested the cathedral and michaels house as fall back positions.

By extension Molly's training and preparedness particularly compared to Maeve was a causality of Harry.

Harry made Marcone baron and inadvertently fostered a relationship with the White Court.

Sacrificed his position with the White Council in service of Winter.

All of these factors are in some way because of Harry's actions Winter would have been weakened without them against a formidable enemy.

I would put Harry as Top 10 to be honest. Senior Council makes 7 Klaus the Toymaker 8th then Harry. Of the ones we know of that is. It's possible Jim could pull ot a fresh newbie. There's also Cowl to consider. Marcone Namshiel as well.

Harry could duel the Blackstaff admittedly neither was going for the kill but it was more then training sparring.

so, does anyone think that we'll get both a Cinder Spires & a Dresden Files book next year?

Assuming Jim's right about his estimates hopefully yeah.

Cinder Spires done by his birthday 26th of October

12 Months by jan or feb next year.

meh. Like I said, I really don't believe it. Jim's been saying for years he lies but I've never specifically seen it, until now. But... Considering the offshoots the Etruscan idea can take and where it can lead I understand why he'd say that.. technically, he didn't lie I suppose, Etruscan isn't their origins. It's their fate 😳
(Saying he doesn't know, is the real tell tale sign though. White court has more backstory in it than any other Court. Saying he doesn't know is paramount to pleading the 5th)

If it helps in the same sentence, he mentions in the same sentence. That it may come out in the next book. "Harry and Lara will need to talk about something on their dates". So assuming he either was or wasn't lying... either way, not sure which way at this point. We might get an answer in "Twelve Months" on one of their dates.

8*inhales* LIAR! An so ya know if you read this Jim, as a put upon theorist just trying to find acceptance I do understand your desire to conceal the twists of your plot. But I absolutely hate that you did that. I don't forgive that one. I don't believe you for one second and would absolutely pull up to the urinal next to you in violation of the bathroom codex to force a private conversation on the matter.
I AM the Etruscan theory. 😠😫👿 I've been cheated on and felt less betrayed..

Sorry mate I liked it too, I missed out going to Etruscan ruins on my trip to Rome so this is my second bittersweet Etruscan disappointment.
Possibly Jim just forgot they spoke Etruscan in White Night.

Cinder Spires Spoilers / New Cinder Spires details.

So new Cinder Spire details from Jims Dragoncon 2021 QnA

1. Next book is 40% done will hopefully be done by Jims birthday 26th of October.
2. Circumventing the globe happened in the past there are records of.
3. Most shipping uses etheric currents from tower to tower. My analogy is Kinda like Hyperspace Routes in Star Wars.
4. Smaller ships go the long way round not using the etheric currents. Kinda like Smugglers in Firefly or Star Wars.

So in terms of Lore additions.

1.One of the irl events of the recent years was Covid-19 I had a fan theory it was the Mothers, but Jim said it was probably Jade Court.
2. Nephilim exist, we've met some and we'll learn more about them.
3. Symbol of faith doesn't matter its the faith that counts. Including Lawmen badges.
4. Chandlers in Mirror Mirror.
5. 12 months shows how Chicago has changed post Battleground.
6. Dresden Files novella has The Outfit.
7. Fae mantles do change DNA. Need to be Mortal cause Mortals have Free Will.
8. Jim doesn't know White Court origin. Kinda discounts most Etruscan theories.

Those are the major ones I can tell from my notes while listening. One or two interesting writing what ifs.

1.Michael was almost killed off.
2. The reason writing picked up Summer Knight on is first 3 books were written in the same year or so and he learnt alot.
3. 12 months will hopefully be finished early next year so hopefully another book late next year depending on publishers.
4.Jim's son has a publishing deal (good for him!) urban fantasy book called "Dead Man's Hand". Personally think it's probably about a "Hand of Glory". Type situation.

I'm sure I missed some but those are the things that stuck out to me.

DF Spoilers / Re: I can see why some of the gods would be in pro wrestling
« on: September 11, 2021, 07:43:54 AM »
Fair enough although the reactions at any major event are similar - music concerts, boxing matches, UFC, various sporting codes, plenty of mega-churches (of any major religion), motivational speaker seminars (think Tony Robinson), movie premieres etc.

People love celebrities. It's pretty well known.

To be honest...I am expecting to be disappointed by this book. It's a bit too corny for me - which isn't to say I don't enjoy wrestling. But at most I'd expect only a few cameos like Hercules and Thor maybe. I'd hate to see Zeus etc. It would feel a bit cheap. And possibly a bit disrespectful depending on the religion.

The problem is that the gods of pantheons other than Christianity have been worshipped by thousands, perhaps millions before. They've had animals and humans sacrificed to them. Temples and statues built in their name. Sure they've faded into the background now. But why settle for something less?

I can see Aphrodite becoming a model or head of a fashion magazine etc. But why would she settle for wrestling? Why would Thor, would has killed hundreds of monsters? Hercules may have only defeated a score or two of monsters, but they were real challenges.

I kinda feel like Jim came up with this in his younger days and thought it was a good idea then. I'd hoped he would mature a bit and see ways to do that book in more interesting ways but it seems not sadly.

I agree completely on every point. I'm with you.

DF Spoilers / Re: Demon reach is Avalon or of similar origin?
« on: September 01, 2021, 12:39:36 PM »
technically, Crete was the current connection to Hades vault then, as Woj is hades trials were once the minotaurs maze.

That's a new one to me. Do you have a link?

DF Spoilers / Re: Demon reach is Avalon or of similar origin?
« on: August 29, 2021, 11:59:09 AM »
Certainly one of the inspirations for Demonreach particularly given all the Arthurian motifs and the fact it was created by the OG Merlin.

Islands of Monsters have been a thing since Ancient Greece, Odysseus landed on several of them. Circe, the Cyclops.

The Minotaur was on Crete.

DF Spoilers / Re: Nicodemus Venatori
« on: August 28, 2021, 05:52:50 AM »
I suppose I just can't see him joining any team where he isn't in charge...not to mention as far as we know it's the first time he tried to convert the Archive in Small Favor. Wouldn't he have tried before to gain such an incredible asset previously?

I suspect he and Kincaid's history is more to do with Drakul to be honest.

The real question is why would the Venatori work with him? They know how horrific he is.

Yeah Kincaid's history probably has to do with Drakul. The Denarians consistently referred to him as Hell Hound, but thats still just 2 steps removed from the Venatori either way.

As for why the Venatori would work with him. You're assuming the Venatori are doing it for humanitarian reasons, as Thomas explained to Bob. They just don't like the competition.

Using Nicodemus wouldn't in and of itself be abhorrent to them.

DF Spoilers / Re: Anduriel's One Line
« on: August 28, 2021, 05:34:05 AM »
Maybe. I  haven't really worked this out. Groinkick said he only had some of the Biblical story, I was just filling in the specifics.

Hmmmm... it may be a coincidence... but isn't Abraham just about the last major figure where Christianity, Judaism, and Islam essentially (though not entirely) agree on his role? The Twelve Tribes of Israel are from his son Isaac, the Arab tribes from his son Ishmael....

Not quite they all generally agree on Moses who was a thousand years later give or take.

But yeah the Abraham sacrificing his son story has occurred to me over the years as well as an interesting parallel to Nicodemus.

Hell it probably occurred to Nicodemus himself, tried to find comfort in that unlike Abraham he was willing to go through with it for his faith.

No doubt fed to him through Anduriel.
