DF Spoilers / Re: The way Blood on his soul survived?
« on: October 17, 2021, 07:00:25 PM »
The Genoskwa is ridiculously powerful.  Add Ursiel and he probably can't be killed outside of some very specific method.  I'm saying the block squished him to paste, but he probably wasn't killed by it.  Hades is a cave, and the genoskwa was very skilled with earth magic. Maybe ursiel kept him alive and he figured a way out on his own that only he could take.

Hannah is dead Because She is just a vessel for Lasciel. The coin was the special part about her.  Unlike the genoskwa, she is just a person without it.

Maybe the Genoskwa gave Hades Ursiel's coin as payment to leave.  Hades is a collector, after all, and his collection was just destroyed, robbed, and given away.

We don't actually know how, specifically, big... feet? can be killed.  We just know valkryies and einharjar killed them.  Those aren't regular opponents, like vikings.  Odin and other Norse gods were probably involved.

The naagloshi couldn't really be killed either, except under certain conditions, and even then it could just be a temporary phase shift from corporeal to incorporeal until a power level or time limit is reached.  The question of the day...

Who wins in a fight(with no rules because they would both cheat anyway)?
The Naagloshi or the Genoskwa?  I'd love to read that!

True but even River Shoulders seemed confused as to how Blood on his soul survived.  River Shoulders is older than LTW, and is one of the Forest people, and should have had an idea.  So I don't believe it's because he's a Forest person with a Coin.

Does the Genoskwa have a Coin?  I'm with the Naagloshi in this fight.

Because to their knowledge, nobody had ever resisted the temptation of a fallen. Harry being who he is was just stubborn enough to resist the call of the fallen. To the church's knowledge, harry is the first to resist the temptation. Though had Harry not had the wonderful conversation about how Lasciell's shadow was composed of Harry's fungible material it is uncertain if she would have changed... she resisted right up to the end.

Sonja, a KoTC had given up a Coin.  Others have given up a Coin.

DF Spoilers / Re: Thomas's Cell

Imagine if Thomas gets information that he realizes puts Harry in horrible danger (Stars and Stones, or being a Starborn, or both), but can't do anything.  Talk about torture.

Or because he's been targeted and someone sacrificed themselves for him already, so he can't be targeted again?
*Heck, everyone talks about Cassius's death curse in relation to Murphy, but Nic could have done it too. Small petty revenge from whatever hole he's currently hiding in.... That.. might explain why the knights showed up in reply. They were on duty there.

In Book 5 when Harry gets hit with the Barabbas Curse and Shiro takes it for him so he doesn’t die, what stops Nicodemus from just doing the Barabbas Curse on Harry again?

JB: It takes a while to set it up and get going.  You can’t just whip it out and say here’s a curse.  There’s got to be blood sacrifice and ritual and all this other stuff that goes along with it.  Otherwise he’d just use it every day, for fun.  That guy cut me off in traffic.  Barabbas Curse.  Because he totally would.

I'm also almost positive at some point Jim said that because someone sacrificed them self for Harry, that it can't be cast at him again.  Not positive though.

Perhaps, but it set up a Fae connection with Michael.. Harry might want to totally rethink taking Michael to go after Nightmare in the first place.

Yeah that's true.  That being said, Leah seems to be monitoring Harry.  I think she knew about his friendship with Michael, and by extension knew about Molly.

DF Spoilers / Re: A reason Dresden was kicked from the White Council
« on: October 15, 2021, 07:39:05 PM »
It would be nice if they let him in on the plan.. ::)

Well to make something convincing you would not let him in on it until the last second.  So his actions are totally natural.  It also allows them to monitor him to see if he actually is Black Council.

Who are his friends on the Council?

McCoy
Gatekeeper
Listens to Wind
Martha Liberty
Lucio who is either captain of the Wardens, or near the top.

I could see where McCoy and the others are using the Councils fear of Dresden to their advantage.  Let the Council kick him out, and then monitor if someone tries to contact him.  The Grey Council fears the White Council has spies.  So allow Harry to get kicked out, and see if someone tries to contact the Starborn, Warden, Winter Knight, and holder of powerful weapons.  I mean how could the Black Council not enquire about Harry as an ally with all that power?

DF Spoilers / I wonder if Leah traded Harry's blood....
« on: October 15, 2021, 07:33:09 PM »
When Harry was a frightened teenager, he wanted Leah to provide him the power to defeat Justin.  She basically gave him confidence but did things to make him think she was giving him power.  One of those things was draining his blood.  Blood has great power, and can be used by wizards to control you.  I'm wondering if Leah did that, and traded his blood to someone who then used it to control Dresden.

Just a thought, don't have the exact quote, and I am not even sure that Harry could undo it.  I think just before Harry tries to kill Lea with a Holy Sword and loses it.  Lea expresses interest in Michael's first child, and that would be Molly..  Ultimately Lea becomes "Auntie Lea" and Molly is prepared for becoming a Lady at some point.  It happens in Cold Days, and in typical Mab fashion she lays the blame at Harry's feet.. In Peace Talks he apparently agrees, then in Battle Ground Mab orders him if she is killed to kill Molly..  So a boatload of guilt here for Harry to heap upon himself both earned and imagined.  Not just the prospect of having to kill Molly, but saving her human mortal soul as well, would that be an incentive for Harry to go back in time to fix what he screwed up?

A deal wasn't made for Molly here though.  If he wanted to protect her, I think it would have been in decisions he made later on.  His Choice in Changes ultimately led to Molly being alone, and needing Leah.

If he could have changed something, not raising the Sword to Leah would have been it, I think.  If he hadn't done that, she wouldn't have had it to trade.  Michael may not have shown up (or he'd have had the Sword to protect himself), and Susan would have been able to use an invitation.

But that is the point, Ethniu gave Mab everything she had with the Eye, and Mab withstood it.  Against an immortal with half a brain to reason, the Eye isn't deadly, yes, Mab took a severe shot, but it gave the others a window in which to take her down.

She took a single shot, and survived.  Just because she could take one shot, doesn't mean the eye isn't deadly.  She probably wouldn't have survived a second, as she was made clear to Harry that he needed to act quickly.  If it weren't deadly to her, she wouldn't have been worried because she could have taken more blasts.

The Eye is clearly deadly to her.  She is just powerful enough to take one good blast from it.  A second would have finished her.  She was pretty clear that it could kill her when Harry said she was Immortal, and she replied that she wasn't eternal when discussing the Eye and it's power.

DF Spoilers / Re: Marcone and the thorned one

Marcone will have taken up the shadow and got it to show him its worth, but probably waited years to take up the coin.

I was under the impression that only a wizard can carry around the shadow of a Coin.  A mortal who gives up a Coin will no longer have a connection to it.  Harry who had buried it, and wanted it to go away, was still connected to it.  I thought Michael said something about it to Harry, and how he would eventually be forced to kill Harry, when Harry gave in and accepted it.

I thought the Knights chose a life to save

The Knights have a duty, not a choice.  They don't choose life or death.  They provide the person with a Coin a Choice of life or death.  if the person gives up the Coin, the Knight cannot choose death, as Karen Murphy found out.

We know that the Noose gives Nicodemus the ability to cast the Barabbas curse, which will kill someone.  There is no known defense against the Barabbas death curse other than someone who will sacrifice themselves.  I'm suggesting that it's more than that.  Nicodemus can also choose to save someone who shouldn't be able to survive.

So Nicodemus once a year can use his Barabbas curse.  He attempted to kill Dresden with it, but Shiro took Dresden's place.  According to the Bible, the people had a choice.  Release Jesus who had done nothing wrong, or release Barabbas, a known criminal.  The people chose Barabbas.  I suspect that Nicodemus is able to choose who lives, or who dies, once a year.  In this situation he used it to save Blood on his soul who was smashed to paste, and should not have survived.

Groinkick,
Why? basically, he would just have to take a backseat to Namshiel. If Namshiel knows how to do something then he is capable of doing it so long as his host wills it so. Thus Marcone need not have the ability or knowledge to do something. Just think it and Namshiel does it. We know from interactions with Lashiel and Anduriel that they can do things through hosts without the host actively being a participant. Granted Marcone is not one to merely take a backseat to anyone.

I just think that he worked really well with Namshiel.  Something I don't know would have happened if it was their first joining.

It had long been speculated that Marcone had the coin. Mab even made a point to look at Marcone during the conversation about what weapons could hurt Ethniu. One thought that I have had is what if Marcone only took up the coin for the fight. If he had however been holding the coin in reserve for such a time it would be in character for him. He has the willpower to talk to and use an imprint just as harry did, without taking up the coin. There is no reason he couldn't have gained the necessary knowledge from Namshiel prior to picking up the coin. As a side note, it is also possible for the fallen to take direct action so long as their host "wills" it, meaning Marcone would not have to have the magical skills himself to use them. Just as Butters was using BOB to power artifacts the fallen could be used to fuel Marcone's magic.

I'm not sure I agree with this.  Marcone was doing really advanced magic.  I'm not sure he could have if he just allowed the Coin in.  I think he had the Coin for a while.

But apparently Ethinu didn't either, because she never tried a second or a third blast.  You are making an assumption that a second or a third would have killed Mab, but there is no proof of it because neither the blast nor the death happened. Mab knew this when she stood up against her, she ran the numbers.  Then she reasoned it out.

The Eye needed time to charge which is why she didn't just fire it nonstop at everyone.  Mab took the shot to buy time.

"Mab was not strong enough to do much more than lift her own head"
"My Knight, came Mab's psychic voice.  We have perhaps sixty seconds before the Eye is once again loosed upon us.  you must call her by then", talking about summoning Titania.

From that point on, Ethniu was pretty much fighting off everyone else, and didn't get a shot at Mab.
