DF Spoilers / Re: Two thoughts on the timing of Mab's wedding announcement.
« on: November 11, 2021, 08:00:57 PM »
Mab refers to a "fusion of bloodlines" in announcing her decision to marry Harry to Lara. This seems strange considering that the Raith and McCoy bloodlines are already fused in the persons of Thomas and his unborn child.

Perhaps the fusion is that a male from Raith, and female from McCoy were joined, and now a male from McCoy and a female from Raith will be joined.

I think Thomas does probably love Lara.  If he truly wanted her dead, he'd have tried.  I think it's more that he knows how dangerous she is, and her motivations.  So on some level he loves her, but also knows that Justine, and Harry are in danger from her, and if he got in the way, she'd get rid of him too.

LOL, I liked that.

I think the most probable explanation is Maggie but I would love Seanham theory to be true. Specially if that means that Harry will become even more powerful.

Someone save this thread, so we remember this by the time JB explains it in a book  :)

Seanham theory?

She will absolutely be back.  She won't be an injured, aged, vanilla mortal though.

all that generally happens in the real world that has specific rules. Hades domain probably doesn't have a greater authority than his own, so if he makes a smashing trap and doesn't specify"the coins cannot be smashed", not sure if it could or could not actually do so. I'm pretty sure the coin's cannot be destroyed specifically because of divine mandate (like, Lucifer and TWG coincidentally colluded to make it so, as opposed to something Lucifer did when trapping them)

Yeah pretty sure if an Archangel (fallen or otherwise) creates something that contains an angel, destroying it would be near impossible I think.

My opinion is a portal to get there would create a security risk.

Hmmm...  Interesting.  Harry gained power from joining Winter.  Perhaps it goes both ways.  Maybe Harry's mortal magic is now usable by some of Winter.  If memory serves, she did come in wielding some pretty nasty magic right before Dresden sacrificed Susan.

Leah also made some sort of deal with Odin.  Maybe he traded her some power?

Is it still considered incest if one is that many generations removed? ???

not really, but I don't think they are related.

DF Spoilers / Re: Meaning of the Name "Harry" in Hebrew. . .
« on: October 23, 2021, 03:59:02 AM »

I was looking up for laughs and giggles what the name of my dog, " Princess Buttercup" means.. Basically  "Buttercup is a humble sweet creature and she is that.. Then since my American black Lab's name is "Harry Barry Blackdog," out of curiosity I looked it up to see what "Harry" means.. What I found is interesting, in Hebrew it means "house protector or protector of the home," which sort of fits my dog, but more so Harry Dresden.  More interesting is "Harry" can also mean, "army commander."  Now this one really fits Harry Dresden if you believe that Harry is destined to be the "commander" against the Outsiders in the BAT.. Wonder if Jim looked that up and had that in mind when he chose the name, "Harry," or is it just a coincidence, because he was named after the magician as his father had told him?  Or both?

haha I love how your dog is named Princess Buttercup, that's awesome. I also like your other dogs name.  Very good choices.

My opinion is that he's named after Harry Houdini.  It may just be an incredible coincidence that it means "house protector, and or commander" because it is a really good match for Dresden.  Or maybe the name was chosen for it's meaning.  Pretty cool though.

Demonreach can’t hold mortals permanently, so it could be used for a period of time.

Jim likes to give villains a British Accent especially where it is a telepathic voice with no previous context, I work on the basis Harry has seen far too many movies where the villain is British and as such his brain ascribes them the voice of Christopher Lee.

Why can't it hold them permanently?

DF Spoilers / Was Lasciel freed by Marcone?
« on: October 21, 2021, 07:24:29 PM »
I was just looking over some Words of Jim and someone asked what happened to her Coin, and if it was still buried in Harry's basement, which Jim said no.

So I'm curious if Marcone, who we know bought the place had found the Coin.  Him helping Mab was also a way to get Harry killed....  Just wondering if that's what really happened, now that we know Marcone is joined with a Fallen.

Not necessarily, think in terms of reading a novel, as we read the words, pictures and sounds form in our brains interpreting what we read.  To us the characters appear as they are, but to someone else reading the exact same words, the picture and voice that the brain relays may be totally different.  Heck this very site is an example of that, we are all reading the same words, but we see them differently.

True.  I just reread it.  Considering the prisoner said "The way you novices always do" strongly suggests he's had experiences with many Wardens.  So been locked up a long time.

For Chauncy, the point is to disarm Harry.  For the English prisoner it has to be misdirection. Assume for the moment that it is some kind of universal translator, why would Harry hear it as anything other then the idiom he was raised with? And if Harry's brain is making it up again the same question. I'm calling Jim out on this one.  While I may have fell on my head as a child and damaged myself, I didn't do that much damage.  He's  hiding something.

Yeah, there is probably more to it than what I suggested.  That being said there is the chance that because of Harry's Intellectus, the universal translator is taking the origin of the person locked up, and giving them that accent for Harry (modern accent, not past).

On the other hand, if Harry really is hearing the person as they are, then it would indicate the prisoner is a more recent addition.  Probably from the last Warden and within the last 50 years or so (I thought someone pointed out the lingo used was pretty recent)

@Mira
I could make up several plausible ways that speech could be translated. That isn't my point. If the prisoner is some old moldy guy from way back when he would be just as unintelligible as Merlin.

They are locked in crystal.  Their mouths are not moving, they aren't speaking in an audible way.  Any communication being done will be done telepathically which means that language probably doesn't matter.  If the person were Japanese, and only spoke Japanese, Harry could probably still understand them because he is getting the message they are trying to convey.

At least that's how I think it works.  Remember that Chauncy, a demon in the Never Never spoke to Harry with a British accent as well.  Don't think Chauncy is British though.

Harry's mind might be causing him to hear it that way because on some level he's perceiving them as an aristocrat, and thinks of them having an accent like that.
