DF Spoilers / Re: Why Didn't Justine Just Abort?
« on: August 04, 2020, 01:38:05 PM »
I think bringing up abortion is an easy way to be sure you never have to talk together again, no matter the circumstances.

I think the real world equivalent of this dilemma is almost exactly the same thing and I cannot see bringing up abortion as ever ending well for anyone outside of the relationship, except a purely professional relation (e.g. the doctor).

The fact they they will most likely never ever get another kid is not making the subject any less touchy.

On the what of it is not Thomas, but a shape shifter; I don't think it is the case, but if it is that person is really hardcore. Facing being imprisoned forever and not flinching takes a lot of nerve.
Also, I think Jim said once that Grey could probably become Harry to a degree that he could use some or all of his wizard powers, bit that the transformation would be so complete that Grey would effectively be gone forever. Of course only Lara knows if that is the case, since she fed him and could have faked that. Then the charge would be to uphold the illusion.

With that being said, I don't think it is odd that she charges him. It seems a fair amount of people on the forums reasons that if you get to a certain position of power and responsibility all your actions will be well reasoned out and emotions will never affect that reasoning. So far the only ones in the series who seems to live up to that inhuman ideal are (suprise) the ones that are not human in any way. I guess the angels are the best, maybe only, example.

What makes me wonder about Lara is why she uses any of the favours. It seems to me she could have achieved both things without them. I mean how would Harry not join the rescue of his brother? Or introduce her to someone if it would aid in that. At least she could easily have gotten all the help she needed with one favour.

Maybe there is some other reason she needed Harry to introduce her to Christos and Etri?

My wife and I have our own house and a kid. We still go to my parents and stay overnight for Christmas Eve together with my brother and sister. For me it is not same same great family holiday if we are just three people. There might not be more to it, the Carpenter kids are kind of like siblings to Maggy and Michael and Charity uncle/aunt.

I think especially if a lot of bad stuff has happened there would be even more inclination to gather together for Christmas Eve.

Is there some place with links to all the interviews with Jim?

It is pretty clear that his two scariest frenemies are counting on Monoc personnel to be an important part of their protection against Harry. That does seem like a pretty big security risk of they knew on how good terms him and Odin are.

Regarding what they have done to Eb.

At the very least, a white court vampire tricked his daughter into a relationship, then enslaved her and abused (sexually and otherwise I guess) her for years. And then murdered her. Apparently there is something else also that was as bad or worse (my impression).

Yes it would be a logical step to tell Harry about it, but with as much pain as it must be causing him I am not surprised that he has not (yet).

I mean, Harry having two bootcamp kids eaten seems pretty pale in comparison to what the whites mist have done to Be.

A good first reason to put him above Marcone is that he is Santa Claus.

Another would be that his primary activity seems to be keeping humankind safe from monsters. It is the main good thing about him in Norse mythology and in the dresdenverse the earliest deeds we have heard of from him helping the Vikings fight the Grendelkin.

It so also my impression that the Einherjaren are not for fights with other mortal gangs, but a counter for supernatural threats.

Against Odin being a nice guy, Gard thinks Marcone is too soft because he won't kill the workers that builds his secret hideout to be sure they keep silent.

Topping Thomas off and taking him to a place where he can be kept alive an not located is a great plan. Then there is an emp and they have to skip the topping off.
It is not out of character for any wizard not to explain how exactly they are going to do the magic stuff and Harry has always been good at keeping that vague.

I think Lara is really really really far from being papa wraith. She can beat him when he has been starved for 30? years. Imagine her or Thomas going without feeding at all for just one year. As I remember Papa wraith was immune to magic and could rip the life from someone with a kiss.

River Shoulder even says he was sworn to secrecy about the Starborn part, but by who then? Listens to Wind?

It was my clear impression that Eb was living the loner life on his farm and staying out of council politics untill he was forced to join the senior council to save Harry. (Or maybe the loner life except for some black staff action when the council really needed it). But then his friend Simon was killed and the martial voice on the council was gone and he had to save his grand son. So those two things forced him back in the world (I think).

To me that explains the isolation.

You might not want it to be the case, but

"It took her a moment to speak. Her voice came out furry and delicious. “I’m giving him the energy I took earlier. It’s . . . slowing down the damage his Hunger is inflicting. But it’s very bad. And I’m almost . . .” She licked her lips. The sight of it made me want to rip off my shirt and start boasting of my many manly deeds. “. . . empty.” She made the word sound like a sin. “I’ll need to feed if I’m to give him more.” "
Peace Talks page 319.

At least she's says herself that she is almost empty and I don't think she is lying.

We saw in WN just how badly suited the White Court is to direct conflict with powerful supernatural beings. Harry and Carlos are blasting uberghouls left and right, and the White Court are pretty helpless against them.

I am the only one remembering a ring of dark goddesses stading around papa Raith killing any of the super powered ghouls that came close? Of course they would not have lasted forever, but helpless was definitely not the term I thought of.

On some level though, just saying that he hates the whites like Harry hates ghouls really clearly explains to Harry how he feels about them and makes Harry understand his hate. Maybe that is even better for a fast explanation than telling the details.

I mean, Harry just recently entertained the idea that maybe he could kill the ghouls on the way home from the peace conference.
