DF Spoilers / A Hypothetical Diplomatic Incident
« on: July 08, 2020, 06:46:51 PM »
Say Fix is sent by Titania to stop a mortal that is murdering changelings. The mortal has a small amount of magical ability, and is a member of the paranet.  His power is a watered-down version of the site.  He is also a serial killer that believes humans that aren’t fully human deserve to die.  He is killing them with a knife.  Fix engages the killer and burns him to a crisp.

The paranetters let the council know about the serial killer.  A warden is sent to investigate the situation and witnesses Fix burning the killer.  What happens next?  Does the warden try to arrest Fix? What if Fix resist arrest?

What if it was Ronald Rhule a plain mortal, not Fix a changeling?

What happens if its Harry freezing the guy to death?

What happens if its Harry freezing the guy to death, but he is no longer a member of the white council?

If the warden doesn’t engage, does he get in trouble?

If the warden engages and kills the knight, does the corresponding court have a legal right to retaliate against the council?  Would the queens even care?

If the knight kills the warden, does the council have any legal resource?

Would the queens be annoyed that the knight didn’t go back to the council with the warden and let the queens and the senior council come to a diplomatic agreement?

I think the warden would leave fix alone.  I’m not sure what the warden would do if it was Ronald Rhule.  I think the council would want Harry brought in under any circumstance.  The warden would probably comply.

I wonder if a situation like this is how Eldest Gruff got the purple Stoles?

If you’re a mortal working for a fairy court that has been given fairy power, which group has dibs on you?  Are you subject to both sets of rules?  The only one who probably has any idea what would happen is Jim, but I wonder how these situations work.

We know that Mab doesn't like to act overtly, and that she likes to kill multiple birds with one stone.  With this in mind let's take a look at the unfortunate incident with Carlos and Molly.  In Cold Case, Molly goes on her first mission as winter lady to Alaska. Her mission is to collect draftees from the Miksani.  They haven’t been able to send the conscripts because a cult has been abducting them.
She runs into Carlos and they take care of the cultist and save the conscripts.  Afterwards, they attempt to have sex with some disastrous results.  Molly blacks out, the mantle takes over and almost kills Carlos.  The winter lady can't become a mother, so the mantle didn't like it when she tried to get laid.

Carlos is based in California, so Alaska is a bit of hike.  I'm sure winter's intelligence network monitors the movements of the council's upper level wardens.  Of all the places Mab could've sent Molly why send her to a place where she'll run into Carlos?  Does anyone really buy that Mab didn’t know he was there.

Mab has a certain degree of foresight and she isn’t stupid.  She knew what would happen between the two of them.  What does Mab get out of it?  I think she gains a lot out of it.  It makes Molly take her new role seriously and respect Winter law.  Harry and Molly have never been on great terms with the council, and they might be pissed that the two of them are on team Winter.  Molly just made a first impression as winter lady to the council, she can take one of there most well respected wardens and cripple him without even trying.  Maybe that would give the council a reason to think twice about taking action against Harry and Molly.  The incident will also side line one of Harry’s allies.  The less people he can go to for help, the more he has to rely on Mab.

The timing of this was also perfect because Molly was new to being the winter lady, so nothing suggests Mab’s culpability.  It’s not her fault that the new person didn’t finish ready the mantle’s owner’s manual.  The council would be less likely to believe this was an accident if Molly had been on the job longer.

DF Spoilers / Peabody, Cowel, and the other Necromancers.
« on: June 26, 2020, 12:00:27 AM »
Not all of these people can be working with each other.  In Dead Beat everyone wanted a copy of Peabody's book on the Earlking.  Cowel wanted Harry to give him the book.  Harry refused, so Kumori proposed that Harry destroy the book as a compromise.  This suggest a few different scenarios.

1.  Cowel was confident he could get another copy of the book or he already had a copy of it.  If he was on the same team as Peabody, you would think Peabody would've either given him an author copy, or just told him what he needed to know.

2.  Cowel thinks he can kick the other the necromancers asses and get a copy from one of them.  The question is why would Cowel risk it?  The other necromancer seem to be more dangerous than Harry.  Does Cowel simply like Harry, or does he think Harry could be useful to him.

3.  The other necromancers wanted the book, so did they not have access to Peabody?

4.  Peabody doesn't want to tell Cowel or the other necromancer what they need to know or share his author copy with them.

5.  Peabody was not working for the same team as Cowel during Dead Beat, but some time between then and Turn Coat changed teams.

6.  Kumori's offer was bs and they would've just take the book from Harry as soon as he set it down to destroy it.

I'm trying to figure out how Peabody fits in with the characters in Dead Beat.  He wrote the book, so I think it would be kind of strange if he wasn't involved to some degree.

What do you think?
