Calendar Event Discussion / DragonCon?
« on: June 27, 2018, 09:58:39 PM »
Will Jim be at DragonCon this year?
I know that sometime in September is their wedding so I wasnt sure if it was too close or not.
Also, if he is coming I was wondering if he d want to do an gaming event? The Pathfinder one from 2016 was HILARIOUS!

You d be surprised at this so-called diversity push that actually is about exclusion.   I saw on a FB thread about Dresden Files where several were arguing that the character was whatever color/race/gender that they the reader wanted it to be, and the author's descriptions didnt matter. in the particular case they said that they didnt want Murphy to be white, blond and short because thats not the head cannon they wanted.

Codex Alera Spoilers / Legion breakouts
« on: April 20, 2018, 05:46:01 PM »
I was re-reading the series again and I was trying to figure out the breakouts for some of the smaller sections of legion and their equivalent current counterpart.

We have File leaders, and Spears which I believe were a group of 8 mean.
However, the spears to files to centuries is the part that I am a little confused on.

This was the Roman legions breakouts based on my googling but I am curious what the Alera variations are:

 1st Cohort   800 ppl   5 Centuries
 2nd Cohort   480 ppl   6 Centuries
 3rd Cohort   481 ppl   6 Centuries
 4th Cohort   482 ppl   6 Centuries
 5th Cohort   483 ppl   6 Centuries
 6th Cohort   484 ppl   6 Centuries
 7th Cohort   485 ppl   6 Centuries
 8th Cohort   486 ppl   6 Centuries
 9th Cohort   487 ppl   6 Centuries
10th Cohort   488 ppl   6 Centuries

DF Spoilers / Re: MHI - kickstarter with challenge coin
« on: November 30, 2017, 07:20:42 PM »
Thanks, I have been curious about that series after reading Butcher's SS.
I'm with you Warden.  I'll have to look into it.
The first MHI book is actually free to download from the Baen free library. Lots of us are hoping that the stretch goal of the coloring book and card deck will be reached.

** I now have an image in my mind of Maggie coloring the MHI coloring book, with Mouse nudging the correct color crayon for each creature.  And Harry walking in to see it.

DF Spoilers / MHI - kickstarter with challenge coin
« on: November 28, 2017, 10:55:18 PM »
Since Jim did a short story in the Monster Hunter files and introduced a character/creature that Larry liked so much that he has said its canon, I though you all might like to know that there is a kickstarter for the Savage Worlds version of the MHI.
they've also unlocked a stretch goal which is a challenge coin. If anyone likes to collect challenge coins, it can be selected without getting any other items.
Anyways I wanted to spread the word :)

Thank you! I like meat!
Happy to oblige!
Oh, I'll be exploring that site.
yea!  All I ask is please either share the site link or share the fb link.  For some reason its becoming common to copy and paste things without including links back to the original. Linking and sharing is how bloggers get income by the advertising on their sites and traffic.  Crazy right?

They are under a bunch of pressure, but it seems odd that they'd push out a publication date.  It just means more money for them.

Odd.
Its a priorities thing. You put priority on the sure money.

DF Spoilers / Re: Who was the real target of the bloodline curse at CI?
« on: October 11, 2017, 07:42:00 PM »
Part of what also unknown is how far distant the branchings?
Hypothetically it could be just about all of the White Court at of the Raith's side.
Another factor with the ritual and place of power is that it needs to find people ANYWHERE on Earth so thats a factor.

One thing I am wondering is how does a bloodline curse find the people? Is it based on blood itself or DNA?
Hear me out, lets say a bloodline curse was done on me. I gave blood at DragonCon and I give plasma periodically as well, would that person die due to having some of my blood in their system?

DF Spoilers / Re: Mirror Mirror Knights of the Cross
« on: October 11, 2017, 04:15:23 PM »
this is going straight off the TOS Mirror Mirror premise so lots of bad stuff.
So the real question is at which point did Harry make the different choice in Grave Peril.
There are so many points in the mid to latter part of the books.
Was it during the initial ball and face off or later when he had to chose whether to give up his GF and avoid the war or not?   The delay of the start of the War and all that it affected would've started his downward spiral.

Definitely cool!
There was so much cool stuff that occured this past DragonCon.
FYI,  Larry C. has said that Jim's new characters for the MHI short story he will make reference to them again because he though they were that cool.

DF Spoilers / Re: Word of Jim -Codex Alera
« on: October 09, 2017, 05:24:12 PM »
There have been several.  That being one of them.  Another is that if he did, it wouldn't be earlier that at least 100 years in the future.

I'm kind of seeing the Cinder Spires as possibly being Alera a 1000 years in the future or some such.  With the climate changes that Tavi kicks off, it's entirely possible.
He did say maybe, something set earlier in the world perhaps because most of the current stuff is the 'boring' things that gotta be done.
