DF Books / Re: Will Butters keep his word and train with Vikings?

Good to hear! Any details or did you pinkie-swear not to tell?
No details on Peace Talk particulars. But if all goes well *looks around for wood to knock on* it should be with the editors by January-ish.

Also he like the 3D printed glow in the dark pendant with jewel that I gave him.

I dunno; training with a light saber kind of gets head-choppy if the other person doesn't have one as well.
Great, now Jim gets to kill off another Stark.
No... Jim is far better person than George.
He prefers to torture the readers instead.
now that the touring season is done, he ll be able to finish off the brief cases bit and hit into Peace Talks. When I chatted with him at DragonCon toward the end of a signing, he mentioned he had made some good progress on it.

DF Spoilers / Re: Word of Jim -Codex Alera

The only one that I found cool when it was -re asked was the question about getting cursed by witch doctor since ive only heard about it in one other panel and so it s a cool story for a crowd.

Heh. I was the one in the Monster Hunter Files panel who asked if they could choose 1 character from their own universe to team up with 1 character from any of the panalists universes -who would it be?  (hero or villain).  The collective 'hmmmns' and evil laughs were so much fun.  especially the part about Jim saying the Denarians would go attack Cazador (MHI).

That was the best part of the entire panel.
Heh. I found it funny how Kitty hopped into the line. X)
I do wish there was a way to have the top 10 most frequently asked questions on a billboard or poster with their answers at Jim's panels -so that people can ask fresh questions

DF Spoilers / Word of Jim -Codex Alera

At the Salt Lake City Comic Con vid that Priscilla posted,  Jim's fiance (Kitty) asked the following:
"If Tavi and Kitai had a 2nd child, and its a daughter, would she be called, Kavi?"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js2pG5ell5s 29:10
There was a few comments  by Jim and Kitty that Kavi is their assistant in Denver that has silver hair, green eyes. After a second Jim said: "Yes, so be it;canon!"

Codex Alera Spoilers / Re: ID animals, and figures from the books.

I always pictured Gargants as Elephants.
Naw.. they are definitely the old prehistoric sloths -Jim confirmed that for me when I was getting my book signed at DragonCon last week.

They are described as more bull-like but "considerably humpier about the shoulders" and cloven hooves. Though looking back the head description definitely sounds more like that thing than the oversized bull horns I was imagining.

The closest thing Ive been able to come up with for the taurga was some kind of prehistoric version of a Woodland Musk Ox with oversized rear haunches made more for leaping.

We were both wrong, I asked Jim this as DragonCon, (I lucked out at the end of a signing in Dealer Hall-no crowd and I could ask a few quick questions.)  He said its a reptilian rabbit like creature thats based on a picture in one of the old Monster Manuals (he said thought it was in 2nd edition of Monster Manual).

As a side note, thanks to Reaper's Bones 4 kickstarter, in about 1.5 yrs I should have all the items I need to do a Codex Alera scene.  -I can use the Cave Sloth as a Gargants, theyve got Terror birds I can used for Herdbane, and there are other things that I can use to make it look like a Marat camp. :)

I think that Lance Riddick would make a great Gatekeeper.

Also regarding Christopher Judge as Jack O'Neil -the episode is Holiday. the body swap scenes are hilarious.

DF Spoilers / Re: Shoutouts/Nods to Dresden Files

In one of the early Laundry Files books, the protagonist at one point describes the book he is reading and it's clear he's reading a Dresden Files book.  I don't remember the details.
whats the Laundry Files series?

This...wow, that makes me laugh so hard. ;D

Based on the average Crack Theory around here, that one has more "Major Storyline Stuff" packed in per word than nearly any other book in the series.  I'd say Cold Days tops it, Grave Peril by pure lasting implication, maybe not Changes (oddly enough?), on the fence about Ghost Story...
Sure if you are wanting hints -etc.
But overall? Its about madness at a con, a trip into faerie worlds and then a white council meeting. While there are hints and stuff dropped, that is alot lighter than some major story world upsetting/heavier things such as defining what it means to be the White Knight, throw down with Erlking/ Wild Hunt, dealing with the potential destruction of the White Council (turn coat) vs figuring out who is trying to kill women close to a porn director (blood rites)

Cold Days overall is a heist story, there is alot less world shaking events in it then say summer knight which setup how the White Council works -proceedurals etc.

Does that make sense by what I mean of lighter to heavier?
Peace Talks is showing the supernatural big wigs all facing up, and has to have an event that both makes Mab sweat, and be something at such a level that seems justified as an event that causes Mab to sweat knowing as we do now, more of what Mab is.   In many ways similar to how Changes fundamentally changed things for Harry. He couldnt go back to his old life no matter what. -Car was flattened, apartment burned down, and a new building is there. -- no going back points.

Structurally, Ive a feeling this is heaviest structure-wise until the Trilogy.

DF Spoilers / Shoutouts/Nods to Dresden Files
« on: August 02, 2017, 05:07:06 PM »
so, on another forum it was pointed out in the movie The Prestige, there is a playbill that includes -Harry Dresden

So I was wondering if anyone had seen and nods, shout-outs or references to Dresden Files in non Jim books?

Gotcha.  Still, I'd like to see that.
Me too. I am looking forward to the Mirror universe, the Kaiju book and the Pro Wrestling book.
I think that Peace Talks is one of those important game changing factor books which is why it cant be rushed. Other lighter books like Skin Game, Proven Guility are faster to write because they dont have as much major storyline stuff occuring. I think that ll be the same case with Pro Wrestling and Kaiju. because if I am not wrong, after those 4 it ll be time for the Trilogy.

I spied a typo in the comic, a case where they have 'to' instead of 'two'.

Timeline wise, where should this story fit?
I know its after Wild Card but just wondering if its before or after Turn Coat?
