Codex Alera Spoilers / Legion breakouts
« on: April 20, 2018, 05:46:01 PM »
I was re-reading the series again and I was trying to figure out the breakouts for some of the smaller sections of legion and their equivalent current counterpart.

We have File leaders, and Spears which I believe were a group of 8 mean.
However, the spears to files to centuries is the part that I am a little confused on.

This was the Roman legions breakouts based on my googling but I am curious what the Alera variations are:

 1st Cohort   800 ppl   5 Centuries
 2nd Cohort   480 ppl   6 Centuries
 3rd Cohort   481 ppl   6 Centuries
 4th Cohort   482 ppl   6 Centuries
 5th Cohort   483 ppl   6 Centuries
 6th Cohort   484 ppl   6 Centuries
 7th Cohort   485 ppl   6 Centuries
 8th Cohort   486 ppl   6 Centuries
 9th Cohort   487 ppl   6 Centuries
10th Cohort   488 ppl   6 Centuries

DF Spoilers / MHI - kickstarter with challenge coin
« on: November 28, 2017, 10:55:18 PM »
Since Jim did a short story in the Monster Hunter files and introduced a character/creature that Larry liked so much that he has said its canon, I though you all might like to know that there is a kickstarter for the Savage Worlds version of the MHI.
they've also unlocked a stretch goal which is a challenge coin. If anyone likes to collect challenge coins, it can be selected without getting any other items.
Anyways I wanted to spread the word :)

DF Spoilers / Word of Jim -Codex Alera
« on: September 29, 2017, 03:53:58 PM »
At the Salt Lake City Comic Con vid that Priscilla posted,  Jim's fiance (Kitty) asked the following:
"If Tavi and Kitai had a 2nd child, and its a daughter, would she be called, Kavi?"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Js2pG5ell5s 29:10
There was a few comments  by Jim and Kitty that Kavi is their assistant in Denver that has silver hair, green eyes. After a second Jim said: "Yes, so be it;canon!"

DF Books / Warden and White Council attire/costume question
« on: July 24, 2017, 08:23:56 PM »
In the Dresden Files, we have seen what is considered formal attire in the White Council meetings.
Per the wiki:
Formal robes were flowing black with stoles of satin and silk in one of the various colors and pattern of trim that denoted status.
Color or Trim Pattern    Status Meaning
Purple stole    Senior Council
Blue stole    Member
Red stole    Member with a Century of Service
Braided silver cord    Master Alchemists
Gold stitched Caduceus    Master Healers
Copper chevron     Doctorate in Scholarly Discipline
Seal of Solomon    Master Exorcist

So that is the regular White Council, but what about when Wardens are on duty at formal events? Do they wear the stoles or is their attire along with the grey cloaks, slightly different since they are suppose to be in a position to protect and keep order?

DF Books / Working for Bigfoot -hardcopy shortage?
« on: July 10, 2017, 07:00:02 PM »
Hi guys,
Question, what ever happend to Working for Bigfoot coming out in hard copy rather than just electronic copy?
I know there had been a problem that resulted in many going back to the publishers but I never saw replacements come out. When I check on amazon, only non e copies are individual sales for $99 or higher.
Does anyone know the story?

DF Books / Cowl theory Dead Beat -onward spoilers
« on: July 10, 2017, 06:57:24 PM »
So... I saw this in another group and wanted to put it out here.  Since Kemmler's students have the ability to body switch.  What if Kemmler did that to Justin Du Moore?
Kemmler masqueraded Justin including taking in Harry -etc.
It would explain why he kept Bob around as well as clarifying why he'd be into the dark magic.

After all there seem to be 2 versions of Justin that people saw. The warden that took down Kemmler and fulfilled his duties  AND the jerk who appeared to have gone warlock before getting killed and having a secret apprentice that he never told the 7 laws to.

DF Books / Skin Game question --possible Michael issue **spoilers**
« on: July 09, 2017, 11:16:54 PM »
So.. weird thing.
Michael mentions being a Corpsman when setting Harry's arm.
However in Grave Peril (I think) he mentions that only Charity has medical training.

Now while a Corpsman wouldnt say they were a doctor. They do have medical training -thoughts?

Codex Alera Spoilers / ID'ing Furies
« on: June 24, 2017, 01:24:13 PM »
So some furies are clearly described even named while others are not.
I thought it might be fun to gather up a master reference of known fury descriptions and those they belong to, and names
Ex. Fidelias fury's his earth fury we never see nor get to know its name but the wood fury is named and takes the form of either a squirrel or rabbit-i need to check Furies of Cal. to know.  feel free to include wild furies

Aria has her fire falcon.
Isana has Rill water fury that takes a human girl form.
Bernard has Brutus his earth hound but we dont see his wood fury.

Codex Alera Spoilers / ID animals, and figures from the books.
« on: June 03, 2017, 01:41:56 AM »
Okay since the older topic is locked. lets try this again!

So in the ruins of Apia, there is a reference to a carving of a mule getting used against a horn giant -any idea what thats referencing?

And since so many of the creatures and spieces came from different places, does anyone recognize the references?

Okay I know Im not the only one thats trying to figure out various costume details/questions so I figured that a thread that just on that area would be useful.

So my questions:
1. What are considered the colors of Spire Olympus?
2. How would their Guard attire vary (if at all) from Spire Albions?
3. Is there a Word of Jim on any colors that crystals can or cannot be?
4. Are there any other visual things for showing someone is a warrior born?

Cinder Spires Books / Spires -minor telekinects
« on: July 12, 2016, 03:29:30 AM »
In re-reading through Aeronauts Windlass, I had a thought.
Everyone or it seems its common to all to have some minor telekinetic ability while Etheralists have major ability at a high cost.

Consider this, crystals are turned on and off by personal will. Over time crystals become less sensitive to individual's level and can only be activated/follow the mind of an etheralist.

For the spires, it sounds like they keep a higher than normal O2 ratio, which makes sense in a mostly enclosed environment but I also think the etheric currents have something to do with the rust fears. This would increase the chances of oxidation in copper but more than that, the Spirestone is specifically designed to harness and provide clean energy for all. The nexues and flows of etheric energy follow specific pathways on their jouney form the top to the surface.  The crystals absorb it. Also they have found a way to both contain energy in crystals and release it. Note the different types of grown crystals - lift, power, trim, gauntlets, and lumin. Yet as Folly explains they are based off the same core concept.  It also explains why the old power crystals get better over time. they are naturally grown and with the constant power fed to them grow, and reshape itself internally to become more efficent. I think the original power cores like the one in the Predator were found, not made and it was from them that was how the templates were made.
