DF Spoilers / Re: Mab and Lara
« on: October 22, 2020, 05:42:09 AM »
Uriel can not slap anyone down because it is not allowed. Vadderung sacrificed pure power for more freedom to act and more ability to influence things.

In the dresdenverse the more power you have, above a certain level, the less you can do.

No, Uriel WON'T (otherwise BG is a paragraph), but he has the POWER.  That is why Mab doesn't even speak his name. He's orders of magnitude above her in power. The freewilled below him had the power to stop Ethnieu is they made the choices and paid the price (Murphy, Hendricks, etc).   The fact she was jailed by a limited earth-based entity in Alfred, less than a planet level, as compared to someone who said he could unmake galaxies...

Was the Red King the first or the oldest? They were all in his bloodline. If the LotON were siblings, the curse would have still worked. Another possibility is that the Red King was the patriarch of a faction of ramps that found the Maya gods, got supercharged, and then killed all the other factions.

Papa Raith had a brother that he threw out of a plane. This leads me to believe that he wasn't the first. How would his brother have become a wamp if Papa was the first?

I don't think the Red King was either the oldest or the first - weren't the Eebs  from a previous dynasty, allowed to live because they did not make any trouble? The Red King may have had a coup and eliminated any threats beneath him before he generated his own progeny

Throw in a Faraday cage to keep electronics in? Will that keep his Murphyonic Field at bay? He CAN walk around electricity, so he would not likely blow OUT a fiber optic link, though maybe create interference when he passes it.. to the computers are off when Harry is home, but Maggie and Bob can play while he is away. And the movie projector projects thru the cage?

This is an interesting thought.

Mab believes that White Court Vampires are "mortal enough" to be vessels for the Fae mantels.  She told Harry that Thomas would be his replacement if Harry didn't play ball.

Also consider that the Winter Mother was able to construct an enchantment that COULD have taken the thirst away from Susan.  Leansidhe was able to quiet the thirst for both Susan and Martin.  Harry immediately realized the implication -- if she could do that, then with some study, the thirst could be eliminated.

The White Court is every bit as human as the half-turned reds like Susan and Martin. I don't think Lara's hunger would be any obstacle to the Winter Mother, or Mab or even Leansidhe.

Lara would make a pretty good Winter Queen.  Much better at it than Molly.

I think Mother Summer and Mother Winter are likely tied as the second most powerful beings we have seen - either of them with their reality warping would have kicked Ethnieu right back into the water without a sweat. And since neither Ferrovax nor Vadderrung stepped up to slap the Titan down, she must be above them on the scale as well. The only one that probably can slap THEM down is Uriel. Though none of them can stop that Angel of Death if she is doing her mission. But her purview is limited.

but is it better than the buck he used to hire Goodman Grey for Peace Talks?

(and did he ever pay Michael back?)

she's been Mab for a thousand years, and the only Winter Ladies we know of are Maeve and Molly...there obviously were Winter Ladies before Maeve, so the question is whether they were actual daughters of Mab, and more importantly, were they discarded because they showed the same lack of restraint as Maeve?

hmmm...daughters.... or people with Fae links like Lily.... could Molly be a descendant of Mab? They refer to Mab as in the time of Hastings... Britain.... we know Charity's parents were wealthy, and that could be a Puritan sounding name... maybe Charity descended from a Mayflower family, old money.... maybe Boston Brahmin... so proper... with a magic strain running thru the blood lines that One Does Not Talk About.... Charity ran away from tat life, but not her blood...

Or hare off in independent directions, maybe with a thug buddy or two. If seizing the entire hierarchy isn't realistic, at least not being subordinate to anyone might be.

I think this is Baron Marcone's path.

Oh, and meant to add for Lash - if the Knight spends more time in Winter - maybe he can make a body of ectoplasm for her psyche to inhabit... just while they are in Fairie.... see how they get along... then ... how old is that little girl that Marcone shot by accident? The one in the Wisconsin nursing home? If her mind is gone, maybe the body is for rent?

You want to REALLY go off the reservation? Here's one.... LASH!

Wasn't she supposedly dead and gone when Harry was plucking the guitar and suddenly played well, and she said "Anything I can, my host"? And she was still around enough to gestate Harry's younger daughter... maybe something of her is still back there, he freed her of Lasciel.

Something that might come about with Harry and Molly - she is now his boss - so he will see her more as an equal and less an apprentice (Harry doesn't think of himself as much less than Mab other than raw power). But... maybe not while Charity and Michael are still alive. It would look creepy. So maybe in 50 years. Meanwhile, maybe she can get her rocks off with Mac. He isn't human.  And he seems good at pretty much everything else....

Nautical? Molly and Carlos? Think the Vasa.....

Oh, and remember Lara and Harry would be a POLITICAL marriage - either or both could have something on the side if they are discreet. Papa Raith apparently did. Just if he falls in love... do not touch skin. Be a formal consort and wear gloves a lot...  she pictured him in white silk once, when she asked if he wanted to stay with the WC.... could she be getting her Knight in white satin? (Apologies to the Moody Blues)

DF Spoilers / Re: A Hypothetical Diplomatic Incident
« on: July 13, 2020, 06:37:09 AM »
Fix probably has diplomatic immunity - for the killer - but it may be an act of war if he attacks the Warden - and vice versa. I would not be surprised if Fix toasts him, and then when Harry (or Carlos, or Bill Meyers) comes in, he says "OK, take me in, it's a Summer Court and White Council matter, as in the Accords. " Plus, as noted, he has no innate magic - he is using the mantle given to him.  The Mantle is the weapon, much like the White Council has not said anything about Harry SHOOTING Corpsetaker to death - but not via magic.  He used a weapon.

I'ma little surprised Harry can BE the Winter Knight. That's an agent of Winter. Not an employee. I can WORK for, say, a Canadian company, but I can't be an envoy of their government... I don't think I could get diplomatic immunity for them.

DF Spoilers / Re: A “how too” short story
« on: July 13, 2020, 06:07:55 AM »
Would anyone else enjoy a short story with Harry making or remaking one of his focus items?

I’d love to see how he actually makes one.

I don't know if there is enough there for a story, and what anthology would want it? Jim does most of the shorts for anthologies.

Now, a microfiction.... that sounds good

I think if the Reds come back it will be the Eebs

I think the Erlking likely killed them when he was done... but IIRC they are not from the Red King, but from his predecessor,  so probably untouched by the bloodline curse.

Jim was supposed to get to it after the newest Dresden Files books... Peace talks comes out today, and Battle Ground in 3 months. We haven't heard any updates, and a first draft  then editing then setting up publication... if we do not hear SIGNIFICANT progress by year's end, it likely won't be 2021.

DF Spoilers / Re: Kincaid
« on: July 13, 2020, 05:08:13 AM »
Could Kincaid be the son of a Denarian? That would qualify as Hell-linked. He chooses his form much like Lasciel chooses her images, or Goodman Grey does.

Kincaid never had Eb go 100% at him. He's alive.  He drew a gun on Eb, Eb disarmed him - and didn't squish him like a bug.  And I am sure Harry stepping between them might be an convenience to Eb... but he could zap Kincaid on the far side.

I think it is RUNNING water that grounds magic - Carlos uses a shield, but isn't it static?

As far as healing, don't they always say you take the water from the body, we are something like 7 pounds of salts? Blood is mostly water, yet blood magic is strong. And The Gatekeeper cast standing on the dock of Demonreach just fine
