DF Spoilers / Re: dying curses
« on: July 31, 2023, 09:15:37 AM »
I would point out that Father Forthill in Ghost Story was on the verge of being shepherded to his afterlife by an angel of death. He was not alone.

Cassius was a former Denarian, as such he should know about Angels of death. Was this Cassius intent? To try to prevent Harry from from being shepherded to his afterlife so that others may hijack his spirit to take it elsewhere, as was feared for Forthill?

As I point out Harry is extremely resistant to anything which preordains his death, but afterwards? Unfortunately for Cassius though Harry has an Archangel watching over him.

Cassius wasn’t trying to kill Harry, he was trying to damn him,

I think that Angel of Death would laugh at any human's Death Curse, except she does not seem the laughing type. She said Satan himself could not stop her from performing her duty. I think, in this role... she is stronger than Uriel. (Azrael?)

And I think it was Kumori said Cowl would not fear Harry's Death Curse, so if the gap in power is bg enough, it gets negated. Also possible Harry will get strong enough to shrug off the curse.

DF Spoilers / Re: Fuego
« on: July 31, 2023, 08:48:07 AM »
Im new here but I've been through this series at least 4 times. My last reread of Changes was via audio and I noted and had missed it before that someone on the "Grey Council" also used Fuego for fire. Harry mentions it.

If I recall, early in the series the words wizards use are personal to them.

Am I remembering this right? If so what does that mean? Of the 13 people who came to the battle, one of them also used fuego? That seems semi-significant. I know its a spanish word, but still...

If this was covered previously, sorry I did a couple searches but didn't find it.

I'm guessing it is probably used as a mental focus,  so you don't really want everyone using it around you making your mind wander. Maybe like training a guard dog to respond to commands in.. German, say. 'ANBEISSEN!". Harry, with his mail order, would say "Bitte", and the dog would look at him...   "Please"?

Harry must never, never, never visit Tierra del Fuego.

“The Archipelago was on fire, and it was my fault”

Great. Harry jokes. Kinda like Chuck Norris jokes.....

"Chuck Norris once went to the Virgin Islands on vacation"

"Now they are simply called "The Islands"

I think the Ladies are above the SC, at least in raw power. When she thinks Harry killed fix, Lily starts blasting at him and he knows she will beat her way thru the shields, and she has very little skill - it's a boxing match against a gorilla. You can have all the skills in the world - that raw power will beat you down. Is a Lady that much Inferior to a noble? Eldest gruff wears the mantles of SC wizards he killed in fair duel on his belt. Now, maybe Eb can take Summer even if she is stronger, if she does not have the skills. Molly, who has SOME skills, may be beyond him. Molly in 50 years? A hundred? how much power will she have?

1 of my favorite things is people calculating feats eg Deathbattle
On that note, Harry does ruin dnd campaigns with the wolves by calculating how much energy each feat such as a fireball would take. Will and friends dont like it

I don't think he RUINED his dungeon, I think the rule change was bad for D&D - and the nitpick was the area of effect. Which is EXACTLY what would bug Harry. If a fireball was a 20' radius sphere, and blown off in a cave, etc. of limited volume and sturdy walls, it would gush out of the contained area like a beer shaken up. Or the bunch of explosive charges that blew Harry and Lara in their force bubble out of the Deeps....   Harry is a "fire is fire" guy - he tells Murphy that when they go to the Shedd and he sees the CONTROL on the circle of power - he isn't sure he could muster that much, and he surely couldn't CONTROL it if he did.  Magically evoked, but then like normal physical fire.

DF Spoilers / Re: Is Nemesis already in Demonreach?
« on: July 31, 2023, 07:19:33 AM »
I tend to think Merlin and the succeeding Wardens will have thought of this and blocked possession attempts in and out of the cells, and likely have the biggest guns in stasis

Jim is a gamer. One reason we may not have seen Nemesis physically? IIRC, in old AD&D (yes, I am old) if a powerful being from the Lower Planes manifested on the Prime Material (our) plane, and the body was destroyed - the creature was not killed, but banished back to its own plane for a century, or until it was summoned - it could not return on free will. Nemesis might be banished, or trying to be sure he is NOT banished.

Nicky would make sure he had a certificate of authenticity signed by the Pope, and a photograph of the Pope handing it to him.

Remember he was quite happy to handle both the fake shroud and the Grail.

Neither of which would have had any reason to be specifically blessed against him. Recall the Grail predates the Denarians - not the Fallen themselves, but the pieces of silver. the Shroud is not a weapon, why would it be against the Fallen in any way? the Hankies are to contain them, it is the Holy Hanky purpose. And even the shroud may predate Denarians - in three days it had been empowered and cast off. Did they pick up and charge the denarii that quickly?

DF Spoilers / Re: Fallout of E=K
« on: May 04, 2023, 09:06:32 AM »
just as an aside, we've seen this a few places E=K, and a rationalization because she could hold a knife to Harry's throat.  I just held a pen parallel to the floor, like a knife, standing a foot from a wall (as if I was against someone's back and reached forward). About 5" above my head. Harry's 6'9" to the top of his head. Top of my head is about 10" above the traps, which is the base of the throat in front. So, for harry? 5'11? You can reach 5" up? So she only has to be 5'6", a LOT of women qualify.

I don't see Wizard of Chicago as a mantle. Why should only Chicago get one? Where is his domain? Marcone's lands? Demonreach is the White council's  prison, not Harry's.  And i doubt Molly AND Mab can sign for him - it is likely not the individual who signs, it is their realm that they sign FOR. Biden does not sign a treaty for Joe, he signs for the US. Mab signs for Winter. Molly is subsidiary for Mab, she does not sign. The Lady signing as herself is like the Blackstaff signing for himself, not for the White Council. Though Harry might get Vadderung.   Harry is likely still considered under two signatories, the WC and Winter. They won't give him another flag. (yes, under the White Council - recall the challenge in the deeps - even the White king said the minor practitioners landed under the White Council's sphere  though they were not members of it.

Such a short term disappearance, they are unlikely to have him declared dead. Government does not work that fast. Plus, it is Chicago, once he is officially dead, they might try to take him off the voting rolls! And the dead never vote red....

DF Spoilers / Re: The Archive (Mechanics)
« on: April 23, 2023, 10:12:15 AM »
I don't think that the bearer dying without an heir would lead to the construct's destruction. If it did, there's no way in hell the Archive would EVER be doing field work like in Death Masks, much less going into actual battle, like in Battle Ground. Though it's entirely possible Ivy already has a daughter or two. While it's uncomfortable to think about, it's entirely possible the Archive would compel its host to have a daughter as soon as biologically possible and safe.

If an Archive can have more than one child, which I think is a good plan, you will have cadet lines, so there is no rush. If I were the Archive, and got run over by a bus, and i have no daughter, it goes up to my mother, then down to my sister's line. My sister is the new Archive.  Her daughter is the Archive in waiting. Third in line is due in September. They all die, goes back to my mother's eldest sister who had 4 daughters. etc.

DF Spoilers / Re: Harry's Moving Island of Avalon
« on: April 23, 2023, 10:00:04 AM »

It could be like Maeve and Aurora's courts in SK, where the physical location of the entrance is at a static point in the real world, but the space that entrance leads to is either in the nevernever or "between", since Harry always comments on how things feel different in the Nevernever when he goes through a portal, and never says that about their courts. But he DOES suggest that the physical space of the court doesn't make sense in the location it's supposedly occupying in the real world (giant ballroom in a commuter tunnel, tropical forest on top of a skyscraper). The Well could be another "between" space, with entrances in the mortal world. Perhaps 5 entrances on 5 different islands?

or maybe he was thinking Lake Michigan is 100 feet deep, or whatever, and he had descended further than that, so, being beneath the lake itself, it is no longer an island? Just another piece of the earth's crust?

DF Spoilers / Re: Is the "Black Council" just ... Cowl?
« on: April 22, 2023, 03:56:27 AM »
I don't think this is a one man deal. Cowl is most likely part of the inner circle, or POSSIBLY a high lieutenant to the Big Boss (Outsider?). But Cowl shows himself too much to be the Big Boss. Not a big Council, but 3-5?

They know who is on the other side. They will take precautions. Meetings in a totally dark room keep Anduriel in the dark (sorry). So could using sign language.

Mab has agents, but doesn't have that supernatural intel ability that Andy does, or Ivy.  Keep it small and quiet, you can hide from her.

The Arctis Tor group may have had NO Circle people, or, possibly more likely, the leader was Circle, the rest are a crew reporting to him. But even Nammy might be just a lieutenant to an Inner Circle guy.

I don't think Kumori is Circle.  She's Robin to Cowl's Batman. Batman was Justice League. Robin wasn't. She's sidekick.

Peabody is an agent. Maybe a lieutenant. He's not leadership.

Vittorio is the leader of a little crew or platoon.

Bianca is a nobody.

How long will it be before Nameless becomes like a mantle and he possibly leaves at least some traces by it? Didn't Harry summon the Erlking as such? Or did he call Hearne? or maybe you can find enough referents to Nameless to point to one nexus who you can find.  Probably as useful as "Cowl". Maybe not enough to summon or curse Nameless, but might find it useful.

DF Spoilers / Re: Black Council & BG
« on: April 21, 2023, 04:37:51 AM »
I don't think we would have seen Cowl as much as we have if he was the head of the Black Council. The big boss does not take to the front lines - we do not see the Merlin fight, do we? I think he's just an agent - a significant one, but not the main man.
