DF Spoilers / Re: Kill Molly Carpenter
« on: October 06, 2021, 04:28:18 PM »
From what I can recall, Mab did start out as Winter Lady. Lea was her handmaiden the way Jenny Greenteeth was Maeve's handmaiden. No word on when she became the lady, but since she seemed to be a contemporary of Merlin, probably during the first millennium. Sometime around 1066 she became Winter Queen when the last Winter Queen died. Mother Winter is the OG. The summer queen mantles have all changed hands.

Maeve and Sarissa were born in the early 19th century. Their father was an Austrian composer who died young. Which seems to be a suggestion that it was Mozart, but Schubert fits better. Schubert composed Die Erlkonig.

My crazy fan theory is that the fae courts were set up and the gods banished or surrendered their immortality around the time of Jesus.

Another angle on the "kill Molly Carpenter" thing is that Mab doesn't use a last name. By killing Molly's humanity, you'd be severing her ties to her family. Making her Molly, the queen of air and darkness.

On Page 219 of BG, Mab orders Harry, if she dies that night, to "kill Molly Carpenter".

Given the events in Good People, the real bone of contention between Mab and Molly is Molly's continued humanity. Mab thinks that you need to be Spock to be a good Winter Queen.

Mab didn't order Harry to kill the Winter Lady or the new Winter Queen. Because having a neophyte lady and queen would be just as bad for Winter as having a queen that still clings to her mortality.

She was ordering Harry to make Molly as inhuman as possible, to make her fully fae, in order to be what Mab envisions a good queen should be.

Jim has stated elsewhere that Mab can't lie, but she can be wrong. I hope that's the case, here.

Jim has also stated that Molly's coming story is not a happy one. Which, to put it frankly, sucks.

If he gets the grail perhaps he will use it to purge Thomas of his demon?

Solution: Harry’s batchelor party, a full complement of Knights, an Alpha, Eb, Carlos, River Shoulders, Listens to the Wind and Toot take down Drakul once and for all, and rescue Wild Bill and Yoshi to be put in  Demonreach until they can be cured.

There's no curing them. Bill and Yoshi died and have moved on. A demon has taken up residence in their bodies. It's why Blamps look decomposed.

During the battle in Hades' vault in Skin Game, Lasciel was aware of the parasite and wanted it for her own purposes.

Harry's going to stay in Winter through at least, the next two books.

BG ended right after midsummer. Mab, Molly and Kringle visited Harry on Christmas Eve. Obviously, Harry is still in Winter 5-6 months after BG. Which means he missed the Halloween window to change masks. Twelve Months takes place from June-ish to June-ish. If Jim keeps pace, Mirror Mirror will take place about a year later, giving one more Window for Halloween swap. Since Mirror Mirror's focus will be on Harry for a change, something we haven't seen since Ghost Story, I expect revelations about Starborns in there. Winter will be playing a supporting role. Probably still complicating Harry's life, as normal.

Maggie and Bonnie are both still alive. Still uncertain if the curse attached itself to Harry's penis. Susan and Murphy are both dead. Luccio and Elaine still seem to be alive. Lara is an unknown quantity for now.

Clearly Cinder Spires is DF earth after the BAT. Why? Gwendolyn Margaret Elizabeth Lancaster.

Or maybe Jim just likes that name *Shrug*
Wasn't Margaret Dresden's middle name Gwendolyn?

Margaret (Maggie) Dresden, Margaret (Molly) Carpenter, Margaret Dresden (LeFay). Maiden, Mother, Crone?

IMHO, the nicknames are to distract you from the fact that the most important women in Harry's life are all named Margaret.

In fact, since Madge if a diminutive form of Margaret, I'd be completely unsurprised if Mab's proper name wasn't Margaret.

Thing is, at this point given his history and service to the Almighty, I cannot see anyone who is a "saint" slapping that kind of curse on Michael.  And even if one tried, I think the Almighty would veto it.  No, in this case the silver came out because as mentioned, stainless steel would be painful if not fatal to their daughter.  Also for Sunday dinner with honored guests one breaks out the family best china and silver, which these days is inherited for the most part. Gone are the days when newly married couples get sets of sterling and fancy china as wedding gifts.. Yeah, it happens, but mostly it is inherited, that is how I got mine anyway.
Nope. Free will trumps celestial power. If a human saint chose to lay that sort of curse, there would be a price to pay. But nobody can stand in the way of free will.
And the curse could be laid by a saint, a demon lord or a fae queen.
Jim said Tera West would be back by or for the BAT. So, expect the inherited silver to come out then, too. Since MacFinn's curse is a bloodline curse. MacFinn could have made puppies with Tera West or left kids behind in Vietnam.

Per Jim, covid is caused by the Jade Court. Who are vamps who live on breath, somehow.

It's an internally consistent view in the Dresdenverse.

Or not, in this universe Molly never fully dropped her warlock status, she slipped back into it more than once.  Like using the dark side of the Force, she continued to go into minds when she thought it was right and it was the quick and easy way.. All that time she continued to be Harry's apprentice and put him in danger as well as herself.  No, in the  MMverse, she might be that plump happy mother Harry saw in the soul gaze, forsaking all her power like her mother did.. Leaving Harry without any back up.
Y'see, I think that's the endgame for Harry after has destroyed the current state of affairs in the supernatural world, wrecked the fae courts and caused their destruction by removing the need for them, having either destroyed the outsiders or sealed them away from reality for all time or for at least this cycle.

Harry and Molly are going to get together and make babies. Given that the files are written by Harry after the fact, and given the ominous warning at the end of Storm Front, Harry is going to be mega powerful at the end. Of course, nothing says that Molly can't make babies as the Winter Queen.

I think we'll see Sarissa and Fix at the wedding. Titania will probably beg off. Although Mother Winter might beg off on the pretext of walking difficulty.

Mab said it'd be a year, and the book is currently named twelve months. So it'll likely be the anniversary of their victory, or the day after. So when was BG?
Around the 21st of June. Ethniu and Corb tried to take down Mab on the summer solstice, when Winter was at its weakest.

I had a horrible Mirror Mirror thought this morning.

Harry's the bad guy in the MM universe and he summons our Harry to die in his place in a confrontation with some big bad.

I've already said that in MMverse, Molly is either dead or a warlock. What if she's a warlock and still is Harry's apprentice?

In their soul gaze, there was one image of Molly with a scarred cheek, wearing the robe of a warden of the White Council. Several people have theorized that the scar on her cheek was from the mini-fireball that Harry used to teach her the price of going into danger unprepared. In our universe, Molly couldn't stop Harry from moving the fireball closer to her face and collapsed when she failed. Our Harry had mercy and stopped the fireball. But evil Harry probably wouldn't.

I had a theory that the soulgaze was accurate and prophetic. We were going to show different scenes from different point in every phase of Molly's life. So, in that image with the scarred cheek and the warden cloak, everyone assumed she was a warden.

What if the cloak wasn't a vestment of office, but a trophy?

Let's face it. At one point it would be easy to imagine Molly going all Harley Quinn. She already had the hair color and the tattoos. The mind magic and manipulating the minds of others would do for the crazy.

So, evil Harry takes Molly for an apprentice after she manifests magic. Perhaps luring in by promising revenge upon the vamps responsible for Michael's death. Our Harry might get to see a Harry and Molly where Harry didn't shut Molly down when she offered herself to him when he took her for an apprentice.

Hell, if MM Molly isn't batshit crazy, he might get a frank point of view from the MM Molly on how a Harry and Molly relationship might work.

Not that Harry and Molly is going to work in our universe when Molly is wearing the Winter Lady mantle.
