When your character buys supernatural strength, you pay the 4 refresh upfront to get it. An everything that listed beneath said power is yours. Full stop.

Sketch looks very well done. How about Lara Croft from the newer tomb raider series? I always felt that the new games just expressed how well a pure mortal can really step up. An her character development is really impressive.

I trust that my gm actually has a method to his madness so I will leave it up to him. So far here is my skill write-up. Still working on stunts that would be relevant; but having difficulty.

Great: weapons, scholarship
Good: endurance, survival
Fair: athletics, alertness
Average: press, conviction

Sorry for the late reply, got knocked down by the flu but I am better now. Honestly I am not sure where else I can go with the character because an area like Antarctica kinda limits what kind of jobs I can do. You know, since it is an icy, frozen desert. From my own research I've found out that the major jobs out there is for research purposes, shipping and one or two other things.

I am open to suggestions. Perhaps a newbie scientist on the job, unaware of the supernatural who takes musashi's teachings to heart and very seriously.

Sorry about your laptop and wow! This is a really good write up. You hit the nail straight on the head. Good job!

You are righy. It is creepy, intetesting but also super creepy. Thanks.

Hmmm. This is definitely a step in the right direction, as I was wondering what skills to take exactky. Considering the campaign setting will be taking place in antarctica, so endurance seems to be a must have. Given that the place is a frozen, snowy desert and the fact that jobs their are quite limited. So trying to fit that into the character is a must since I don't wanna be a broke hero. Lol.

Seriously this is a wonderful start, I am still working in backstory to fit him into the story. But this is way more than what I had before; haha! Maybe even make him start out as a pure mortal but deeply grounded in the principles and ideals of miyamoto musashi. So trying to embody that concept is definitely interesting to me. An the +2 refresh being pure mortal would also help in terms of adding to what else I can do.

Truth be told I hate canon bless this house and holy touch for obvious reasons. They are way to reliant on stringent criterias that will be extremely difficult to make as something I can consistently fall back on. Would like to look into much better, reliable options. I am open to suggestions.

Sounds really good. Please tell me more.

Friend of mine is going to do a feet in the water game come next month or so; an I wanted people thoughts an ideas on a true believer of miyamoto musashi. Japan's greatest swordsman and the author of the book of five rings. Someone who strongly believes in the way of strategy and its tenants. Still brainstorming on what skills I should choose. aspects and whatnot. Would like all of your thoughts an opinions please. Oh, an my friend said that the story will take place in Antartica; the uncharted continent.

Anderson definitely have superhuman strength, speed and toughness for sure; though I'd argue that its really inhuman to save on refresh for potential stunts. He's fast enough to react to bullets and strong enough to throw his bayonets through really powerful material the way black panther can throw a javelin through concrete with ease. I'd argue his regeneration is within superhuman limits as well but as you can see this build can get expensive really fast. It comes from man's technology called bio-technological regeneration that surpasses any known nanotechnology. So you can do with that as you which.

He's a master of the bayonet made from pure silver and are blessed to really put on the hurt. Whether it be close or long range combat and he is damn accurate at throwing them where they need to be. They come in different variations but we can assume safely that he only uses the best he can get his hands on.

He can summon a horde of scripture pages from the bible and use them for a variety of purposes.

Holy Barriers: Anderson can affix scriptures pages onto the walls of a building to erect a barrier to ward off vampires. Specifically, Seras was blocked from escaping as if there was a physical wall. In the Hellsing Ultimate OVA, Anderson used the scriptures to erect a divine barrier around himself when clashing with Alucard, which set all of the pages on fire. In the first anime series, Anderson can use the scriptures to purify the house and prevent the use of black magic.

Transportation: Anderson can use Bible pages to seemingly teleport. He used this to leave his first fight with Alucard after realizing he did not have the equipment to kill him, and again when trying to ambush Alucard in their final fight. He also used this to appear before Integra when she was attacked by Millennium’s vampires.

Ensnaring: In the first anime series, Anderson was shown to use Bible pages in order to trap Alucard. Specifically, he used them to entangle Alucard's arms before slicing his head off.

I would add the Nail of Helena; an artifact that pierced Jesus himself but that is the point where he became an NPC. An truth be told its not necessary. As it bolstered his already superhuman stats straight to mythic levels and granted him the ability to wield soulfire and vines. Hope this helps.

He is deeply fanatical in his belief to being the"monster of God"and to the Vatican. He is a Catholic. Deeply feared by vampire and potentially other supernatural beings, considering his brutal reputation. Definitely a champion of God but not an ordinary one by any means. He runs an orphanage and he has a huge hatred for monsters, but does have morals. As he betrayed his superior because said superior started to kill innocent people.

He is a foil to Alucard. This is all off the top of my head since I last seen the anime. If I can make a request I'd like to see you stat zoro or from one piece. I'd like to see your take on what it means to be one of the best swordsman or hand to hand combatant.

You bring a valuable point. Thank you guys so much, you've made it much easier to consider what sort of thing a character can have faith in. In order to make it a near physical force on the world because I wasn't to sure if I liked how the rule book had it. As it made it extremely iffy. But your wisdom just continues to shine on through. I am glad to get a second opinion on the matter. An unlike others I am not sensitive when it comes to the topic of religion or one's faith. I'd just found it weird that someone can believe in a concept like communism and that gives them justification to get faith powers. Not that there is anything wrong with it; just sounds weird to me.

Now that is an interesting thought. Though to be honest in the world of Dresden; faith has always struck me as a bit weird and off. I mean I get why Michael has faith powers, because he believes in God and love. As well as his family. Shiro being a baptist by technicality is also easy to digest; and Sanya is the only one who is a black sheep among the three but does not make him any less important. The reason I asked this question is because the rule book is not exactly clear and concise on the whole belief is its own power. Only that it has to be pure, true, sincere faith.

Does that mean that someone who believes in something as simple as the quote "life, freedom and the pursuit of happiness" qualify? Or perhaps Miyamoto Musashi's “Get beyond love and grief: exist for the good of Man.”, "No Fear, No Hesitation, No Surprise, No Doubt" or maybe even his whole respect Budda and the gods but don't rely on them to bail you out during battle? How far does this belief stuff go?

A few questions that I would appreciate to get an answer too. The first being is it worth investing refresh into stunts like devout words or blessed words for a character with a conviction of 4? If not then can you please explain why?

Second question, could someone help me better understand faith and its limits in the drpg?

Can someone with a high conviction consecrate an object? Whether it be an weapon, personal item, etc. Like say I want to consecrate a collapsible baton to better fight a vampire or things weak to faith.

DFRPG / Re: Ideas building an emisarry of Nyarlathotep
« on: June 09, 2018, 06:19:25 PM »
You bring up a valid point that being his emissary would paint a target on the individual, but what could you do to a being who is able to freely walk among the populous? Especially one whose power is not tied to anything. I asked mostly out of curiosity and how would other gm's rule it or how would they handle the idea? Especially considering in paranet papers it says that if you do a wikipedia search on any god; then 10 out of 10 they exist in the dresdenverse. In some shape, form or another. Your ideas are warranted and appreciated all the same as I was under the impression that the white council cannot really get between the affairs of a mortal and his patron/sponsor. Especially if the mortal in question doesn't even know who the guy even is due to his crafty and mysterious nature. Something to think and ponder on.
