DFRPG / Looking to build a mystical martial artist
« on: June 01, 2020, 05:57:25 PM »
I was looking through the dfrpg resources paranetonline website, looking for ideas for a new character I would need to build for my gm's game. An I came across the mystical martial artist template and I found it to be really interesting. A man or woman who gained powers through grueling dedication, focus and plain hard work. Which reminds me deeply of the Wux Xia genre. So I have at play 15 refresh, 46 skill points. Ladder starts at 6 go down. I would really like to make this character a reality and one that would have some longevity as it will be a high refresh game, dm is stopping at 30 refresh and 60 skill points until we can clear out the content he has set out before us. Before moving on.

The bare bones of what I have is a young man who is 18 to 19 who is the son of a martial artist (father) and a police officer(mother); both whom lost their lives during a blackout that had happened in Boston(my dm's setting, by a pc no less. Super long story there on that) Which was the perfect cover for monsters to run rampant and do what they want, many people as a result lost their lives. The character was at the house of a friend's whose family are wizards and the only reason they were not attacked was because of their ward on the home. White council stepped in to sort out the problem but the damage was already done. Before that he knew nothing about the supernatural. Now he is a struggling martial artist trying to carry on and make ends meet in his father's dojo, before that incident he did not know anything about the supernatural. After that, now he does. That is as far as I have made it.

I would really appreciate the help as my dm is a stickler for backstory and I personally want to make sure everything is lined up properly so that there is no confusion on both of our parts. I am also open to suggestions. Thank you very much for your time and cooperation.

DFRPG / Looking for something.
« on: February 03, 2020, 06:01:15 AM »
I remembered that there was a build pertaining to a faith character. Who wielded a shield that had a crucifix that bled. If it is not to much trouble and if any knows what I am talking about could you kindly point me in the right direction? I would greatly appreciate it.

Also the only other thing I remembered about it was that it was a high refresh build and had powers/stunt pertaining to taking away an allies consequences or something of that sort.

DFRPG / Monster mash
« on: November 11, 2019, 03:34:43 AM »
Hello everybody! Hope everyone is doing well and are in good health. So a friend of mines plans to host a dresden game where the criteria is to pick a legend (preferably folklore or myth) and build a character around. 40 refresh and 155 skillpoints. Ladder starts from 8 straight down.

So far a few folks I know are going to be evil out the box (players chose to want to play cthulu, lucifer and krampus respectively) so I expect to deal with alot of the bs from their actions. Not sure about the others but either way I would like to be prepped and ready to have to deal with such heavyweights. An I would like to see how would a character be optimised for such a high refresh game

The character idea I had in mind was a 7th son of a 7th son who specialized in killing supernatural creatures. Saw the I have the shell for that stunt in book 3 and it gave me alot of ideas. Just not sure how to execute it properly though. Thank you in advance and I welcome all input!

DFRPG / Building a jedi knight of the faith
« on: December 24, 2018, 12:13:30 AM »
So after 3 years my character in my dm's game has finally kicked the bucket. An I am now tasked with making a new characted. 19 refresh and 46 skill points. I am interested in building a modern day jedi knight of the cross whose faith is in the living force.

I would like some sound advice/opinions in this venture and a few examples of how faith abilities like the potent prayer in righteousness work exactly. An I want to know what would entail in being a wielder of the sword of faith?

Much thanks in advance!

DFRPG / Stunt question
« on: October 26, 2018, 01:48:56 AM »
This website and the core book both have stunts that have drawn my interest but for the life of me I am not sure how I can actually benefit from them heavily. The martial artist and know thy blade stunt for weapons respectively. Can someone point to me or show me what all can I do with these two particular stunts to make things interesting or put things in my favor somehow? I am asking because I have a swordsman in one of my friend's game and I was deeply considering this stunt; but due to lack of experience with stunts like this was on the fence with how it can be used. But have been drawing blanks.

Thank you in advance!

Friend of mine is going to do a feet in the water game come next month or so; an I wanted people thoughts an ideas on a true believer of miyamoto musashi. Japan's greatest swordsman and the author of the book of five rings. Someone who strongly believes in the way of strategy and its tenants. Still brainstorming on what skills I should choose. aspects and whatnot. Would like all of your thoughts an opinions please. Oh, an my friend said that the story will take place in Antartica; the uncharted continent.

DFRPG / Help with faith
« on: July 01, 2018, 05:12:30 PM »
A few questions that I would appreciate to get an answer too. The first being is it worth investing refresh into stunts like devout words or blessed words for a character with a conviction of 4? If not then can you please explain why?

Second question, could someone help me better understand faith and its limits in the drpg?

Can someone with a high conviction consecrate an object? Whether it be an weapon, personal item, etc. Like say I want to consecrate a collapsible baton to better fight a vampire or things weak to faith.

DFRPG / Ideas building an emisarry of Nyarlathotep
« on: June 07, 2018, 11:40:40 AM »
Looking for the advice on how to go about building an emisarry of power whose sponser is the crawling chaos himself and is a huge fan of captain america. So much so that his item of power is a black and white version of cap's shield. 16 refresh and 40 skill points. Please give your experienced thoughts and opinions as I don't wish to build unoptimally; wasting refresh on powers and stunts not needed. My original build was a balance of the physical building blocks and shield stunts to do the captain america thing. The young man is in junior school looking to get a track/sports scholarship for college and by 45 to 48 refresh, we should be all in high school.

DFRPG / Reflecting or redirecting a spell with a weapon
« on: May 11, 2018, 01:56:16 PM »
Outside of wizards who can counterspells and do other weird and crazy things with magic, is it possible for a character to deflect or redirect said spell through a weapon?

Example. Wizard A is fighting against an Emissary of Power. Said wizard casts an evocation at his opponent but his opponent is able to send it back by beating the attack with a weapon or something if that nature. How would be expressed through a stunt? I asked because I am trying to see what a stunt made for this purpose would be able to do and how would it he worded.

DFRPG / Questions about the power web.
« on: March 09, 2018, 12:35:34 PM »
Wanted to ask what is everyone's experience with the web power from paranet papers? I am considering taking it on a character I have in mind. But would like it to have a little more oomph to it, if that is even possible. Is it worth the 3 refresh? Is it a hinderance? Please share your thoughts and experiences for I am eager to hear your thoughts and ideas.

DFRPG / Need help with a character idea
« on: December 05, 2017, 04:16:33 PM »
Good morning.

I have been tasked by my dm to create a character with the following stipulations and homebrew rules. Character can be male or female (I decided on male), second born of two children from a father who is a knight. The surname is Lemming and our house's status is of low nobility. The mother is deceased and my family's relationship is good. The game will take place in an alternate version of the world in England, set in medieval times. Story is about trials, tribulations, change and political gain. Those of common and low noble birth are all born and raised in England, medium to high nobility are all foreigners outside of England. The lore skill is considered the info for religion and superstition, to our knowledge magic is not real. An is regarded as the talk of crazy people.

Everyone has to be pure mortal so we start off at feet in the water difficulty.

The furthest I've come up with for the character is this: His name is Klaus Lemming, the youngest son of Sir Raolin the Brave and the late Lady Seraphina of House Lemming. He is 13 years old and his older brother is 18. He looks and acts very much like his mother, which his father resents him for since it reminds him of his lost love. Who was known for her kindness, cunning and intelligence. Klaus's birthday is seen as the anniversary of her death rather than a day of celebration. The oldest is very much like his father but serves as a foil so that Klaus does not feel that the world is against him. He greatly seeks his father's approval and feels that the best way to do so would be to increase the political and military standing of his house.

Which will include getting his hands dirty.

This is a character I envision who would like to see use his brain to formulate and think his way out of problems and situations. Or even benefit it to his advantage. With inspiration stemming from Tyrion Lannister and Oberyn Martell, I would very much like valuable input to help bring this character to life as much as possible. Any and all input would be extremely grateful.

Thank you!

P.S. I am also having problems with what kind aspects to give him to match this characters backstory, along with stunts for improved survival. Would deeply like help on that aspect as well please. Much appreciated.

DFRPG / Need help building a huntsmen
« on: October 13, 2017, 07:50:02 AM »
Looking for ideas on how I would be able to build a pure mortal similar to Lara Croft, but one whose occupation is a huntsmen. My limit is 6 (+2 for pure mortal makes it 8) and my skillpoints is 20. Its needed for a last of us esque like setting. My dm's words are that survival is all that matters and that. So far this is what I've managed to come up with.

High concept: humanity's last hope (dm said all players should have this)

Trouble: not sure what this should be
Great: survival, weapons
Good endurance, athletics
Fair stealth, investigation
Average: alertness, might

All input is deeply appreciated and if you need me to better explain. Then please do not hesitate to ask and I will be sure to clarify. I would like to make survival my go to skill in pertaining to stunts. Or if you have ideas. Please share.

Powers are not allowed and everyone has to be pure mortal in game.

DFRPG / Crafting help
« on: September 17, 2017, 11:21:28 PM »
With the skill craft, is it possible for a human with a high enough craft and scholarship to build from scratch a high frequency blade?

A hf blade is a sword reinforced by a powerful alternating current and resonating at extremely high vibration frequencies. This oscillation weakened the molecular bonds of anything it cuts, thereby increasing its cutting ability.

Or what exactly are the limits can a player character get away with said skill? Thoughts and opinions please, much appreciation.

DFRPG / True Shapeshifting help
« on: August 13, 2017, 07:52:09 PM »
Good afternoon, I wanted to know if there was anyone who can give me some help with true shapeshifting? My group and I hit a major milestone and due to story purposes, he said that I am now able to take true shapeshifting. The problem with that is I don't really know its full capabilities, or how I can go about using it properly. I originally wanted to spend my 8 extra refresh that I have been stock piling up on a rainy day for my supernatural abilities. (My dm said that everyone is limited to one supernatural ability until he says otherwise. It irked me but I went with it, despite the fact that we have 5 spellcasters in a party of 8.)

I am considering taking supernatural speed and true shapeshifting, though I am not sure if that is the best idea. Open to suggestions, criticism and even game experience. Much appreciated!
