DF Spoilers / Re: The Law
« on: July 05, 2022, 08:46:52 AM »
I mean the novella is appropriately named everyone sticking to a convoluted letter of the law interpretation
but I feel like in the end the entire argument was a little moot for most parties

DF Spoilers / Re: Greeks vs Romans
« on: June 30, 2022, 05:27:56 AM »
Jim has been keeping away deliberately from the origins of the White Court, whereas we have been given those of both the Red and Black Courts.

I find that suspicious.

Well we might get more in 12 months or in the courtship of Lara.

But yes the various different local gods bordering on spirits is another example of interpretations of the Olympians.

Romans converted a bunch of Gallic Sun Gods and named them 'Local Apollo' or Apollo and the region of Gaul.

In Iron Druid both Roman and Greek gods are Seperate Pantheons both inhabiting different planes of Mt Olympus.

But yes. Greek Gods get a lot more play in mythological retelling than their Roman counterparts but the Roman counterparts ruled the Mediteranean for 700 years or so.

Personally I think they're just putting on different hats the way Vadderung does.

DF Spoilers / Greeks vs Romans

Rome conquered the Meditteranean and then some and arguably laster longer than classical Greece ever did. It would be a massive plot and narrative hole for the pantheon that ruled the Mediterranean to be ignored.

So I imagine we'll get some of these answered during the wrestling book, but how does Zeus vs Jupiter work out.

Is it like Vadderungs identities switching back and forth between Kringle and Odin?

Or did some of the ROmans take out Greek gods and assumed their mantles.

Now the latter might be a bit out there but here me out.

Ares vs Mars are two completely different Gods. Ares is a brutish thug the worst aspects of war. Athena was for strategies, wisdom, honour, valor etc. (Also the protogod before Bonea)

Mars however is a general, a soldier and patron of Rome. I could totally see a story where Mars killed the God of War one halloween and assumed his Mantle. As long as his name isn't Kratos copy right should be fine.

Klaus did turn down the senior Council, too much scrutiny? Vadderung likes senior but not not in the spotlight all the time (Kringle in the Winter Court) when infiltrating a body.

Yeah I get the feeling Vadderung would love to be more like Dresden or the hero of the story. Maybe lead a small elite platoon and go into battle. Only reluctantly accepted the Mantle of leadership.

We do now Vadderung likes to change his name personality and motif. We have 4 confirmed: vadderung kringle Beowulf Odin. Not to mention Odin's various monikers in myth. I could see him wanting a presence in white council as well.

Well we're assuming Harry;s only role is to *destroy* Outsiders, but it's gotta be more than that otherwise everyone wouldn't be so cagey and secretive about it. River Shoulders thinks it's not his place. Listens to Winds needs to call in favors for a year before he'll even consider it, Ebenezar feels guilty about something of it, Mab is Impatient and Drakul is teasing manipulative about it.

My bet is Harry will have to control the Outsiders at some point and it's gonna cost him something. Something big.

So, I've been doing my read throughs again and i have come up with the idea that "THE BLACK STAFF" is in all actuality Mother Winter's walking stick.

Yeah that's the general theory consensus. Most of the fandom agrees that it probably is.

DF Spoilers / Re: Other Whamp houses?
« on: June 11, 2022, 08:24:26 PM »
Raith is lust
Malvora fear
Skavis despair

Are there other Houses in the White Court?  Wrath/hatred seems a "gimme," an easy emotion to whamp-ify.  Greed, maybe?

Or were there such Houses, but they lost whanppy-wars and are no longer known?

There is a House in Paranet Papers that feeds on Wrath. The Marinos. They're based in South America poses as a Crime Family. They're one of the factions scrambling for power after the Red Court fell.

Quote
The dead man had clearly beaten her
badly and she had fed on his wrath. The rage of
his beating had only strengthened her, fueled the
demon within her

Quote
Wait, she feeds on rage? I know we speculated that there might be WCVs out
there who ate anger, but Alejandra’s actually
found an entire secret family of them?
Maybe. She claims the Marinos are
unaffiliated so, yeah, it’s possible
they’re wrath-eaters. It’s also possible
they feed on fear like a certain family
we already know about, and Alejandra
just misinterpreted what she saw.
Honestly, it’s hard for me to imagine that Lara
Raith doesn’t know about these guys. If they’re
operating down here, I ’d bet it’s under her
watchful eye, if not by her explicit permission.

Quote
A family of White Court vampires lives
here—the Marino family, natives all—nearly ten
vampires, though they keep their nature a secret
from both mortals and supernaturals alike, and
they are not affiliated with the White Court
proper. I stumbled upon their secret when I first
met Eva and realized what she was.
We have been observing them since the
Red Court’s destruction, and since that time
numerous White Court vampires have visited
the Marinos, but never for more than a few days
at a time, and never in groups larger than two at
a time. If the White Court is up to something,
it seems the Marino family is involved in it.
Perhaps they are preparing to take their place in
the White Court

They've got a corrupt politician in their pocket as well, there's an entire page on him but he thinks they're just a crime family.

Cinder Spires Spoilers / Re: Population Density?
« on: May 07, 2022, 03:22:50 PM »
I asked the same question somewhere else and got this response.

"Would need assumptions about population density
And things like what percentage is given to things like vatteries
But that would be 741 square miles
Or half of long island
New Jersey is the most densely populated state and that rate would put ~1 million residents in the spire
DC might be a better analog for population density as it's a metro area and that would give a population of 8 million"

Cinder Spires Spoilers / Re: Population Density?
« on: May 05, 2022, 07:26:14 PM »
Assuming that Spire Albion represents a civilized world and a - more or less - democracy, they'd have roughly the UN recommended police to population ratio, which is 1 to 450, so 3000*450=1,350,000 people. Averaging 5700 per habble. Habble Morning, being the capital, is expected to at least double that, if not more, so roughly 12,000. Double again for habble Landing, being the center of trade, you get 24,000 people.
most authoritarian countries have more than that though. About 1:200 or even 1:120. That would leave the population at about 360,000-600,000 citizens.*

*Above statistics does not include cats.

Thanks. Knew some maths whiz could work it out. Numbers fit with each Habble being a small town.

I'd forgotten about the cats as well, but lets assume each populated Habble belongs to one cat colony or house. Equal to that of Rowls.

Cinder Spires Spoilers / Population Density?
« on: May 01, 2022, 01:02:26 PM »
So 3000 guardsmen 1500 marines crew of predator tops it over to 5000
The spire is 10000 feet high 250 hobbles 236 are occupied
2 miles across each
Habble Landing has 2 times the population of most Habbles and 70% of the Habbles trade goes through it at some point, cause hiring a windlass is cheaper than using the central spiral which has taxes by each Habble.

Can anyone do the maths of the total population of the spire?

I expect Marcone picked up the coin after dealing with the Fomor lord.

There's being cautious and not overplaying your hand and hen there's risking your life and those of two close subordinates because you didn't use a tool that was readily available to you.

The Fomor lord made Marcone realise he needed to upgrade.

I'm gonna go with Marcone has it. Just a hunch.

I like finding old threads and theories that have been revealed. Thought this one was worth reminding people of just a few short years ago.
