DF Spoilers / Re: Murphy's background

Also up in the air, how did Murphy break her arm on her vacation with Kincaid?  Never explained, but rough sex was never ruled out..

I doubt that. Kincaid gave her a P90 as a souvenir of their vacation together. I would think it more likely that either some of his work followed him on vacation, or they stumbled onto something while they were in Hawaii.

I vaguely remember folks talking about this becoming a short story, but I don't remember if that was just a fan idea, or something that Jim threw out as a "maybe someday..."

I don't believe the Librarians will be villains. Antagonists, sure.
I could see them as a mixed bag. I can also see using them as a way to bring back Agent Tilley.

Back story - Once he'd been exposed to the Red Court and the Fellowship of St Giles, the Librarians press-ganged him into their organization.

DF Spoilers / Re: Drakul's game
« on: December 02, 2020, 09:56:00 PM »
Oh that would be hilarious. The biggest let down in the series.

Depends on if Drakul is progenitor to all Vampires or just some.

Given the differences between the behaviors and origin locations of the courts I would think that they are examples of "covergent evolution" i.e. the development of similar traits from different sources. The Black court feeds on blood, but are all (or at least all but one) revenants. The Red court feeds on blood, but are changed while still alive. The White court feeds on emotions. We don't know anything about the Jade court or any of the minor courts. All are parasites, but there are enough differences that they wouldn't be a single evolutionary line

DF Spoilers / Re: Why is Harry so Tall?
« on: October 08, 2020, 09:00:22 PM »
Please remember, genetics isn't necessarily deterministic. There is always an element of chance in any recombination of genes being passed to an offspring.

Many years ago, when I was a high school teacher, I had a student who was "Harry Tall" (6'9" IIRC). His parents were about my height (5'10").

DF Spoilers / Re: White Court Spy And Why Thomas attacked/murdered
« on: September 11, 2020, 08:32:59 PM »
I've been thinking about this. Evanna had the motive and opportunity to put "the whammy" on Thomas.  If I remember correctly she is Etri's sister. We know almost nothing about Svartelf politics or line of sucession.  If  she would be in line to become queen on Etri's death, she would have a very powerful reason to manipulate Thomas into an assassination attempt. It was widely known that Thomas was her lover, and the time alone would be sufficient for her to create a deep seated compulsion to kill Etri. That he failed and killed another was simply bad luck.

I would not be surprised if Maggie was the one doing the fire

Given that the Svartelves are magically powerful and they know Harry's reputation and Maggie's heritage, I don't think it would be a magical accident by Maggie that caused the fire.

In Zoo day Harry could feel the magic build up in [Kid's name] before he opened a way for creatures from the Never Never to enter. I would imagine that Etri's crew would be on the lookout for something like that from Maggie.

If I remember correctly Harry was due back wages once the Wardens became aware of the fact that he was alive. It probably wasn't a huge amount, but at least a couple of hundred dollars.

DF Spoilers / Re: Battle Ground??

It seems to me that if Peace Talks had been split into 2 books then the publisher would have announced both, since we all know that we'd line up to buy 2 books at the same time.

I'm wondering if someone in the marketing department just got ahead of themselves and this is book 21.

I read Horror for much the same reasons I read Sci-Fi and fantasy. I enjoy seeing what an author can do with an idea. Much of it is meh, relying on the gross-out factor rather than coming up with something that can genuinely be frightening.

That said, I'm hard to frighten because I have to believe something could actually happen before I'm frightened by it.
Semi-immortal serial killers?  yea, right. Nuclear war? I could see that happening.

DF Spoilers / Re: Unidentified Winter Knight Abilities
« on: January 07, 2020, 08:47:51 PM »
Q:  Have we ever seen Harry boost Infriga or other Winter-magic with Soulfire?

Has there been any reference to any other knight who was also a wizard? Besides Ronald Ruel (sp?), fix and Lloyd Slate, the other one referenced that I remember is Andrei Chicotilo (sp?) who was a mortal Russian serial killer/cannibal. I vaguely seem to remember Giles De Raies being mentioned also.

Harry may unique among knights.

I've suggested that Walt Disney is actually a vampire that feeds of happiness. That would explain the persistent rumor that he's been sighted at Disneyland long after he was reported as dead.

DF Spoilers / Re: Any news on Peace Talks
« on: December 05, 2019, 09:33:29 PM »
Apropo of nothing, Locus magazine has again listed a publication date for Peace Talks. They list an April 2020 release, but only in the UK, which strikes me as odd. I've noticed that, in general, British authors have an earlier release date for their works in the UK. North American authors have an earlier release date in NA, and most release on either side of the Atlantic on the same date.

I think there are actually a few Shakers left, believe it or not, since celibacy is a requirement. Pretty sure there are a few dozen living in the last Shaker community up in Maine), etc.) kick off, and Harry returns from his period of mourning and hermitude to kick back.

I remember reading that the last Shaker died sometime in the 90's being well over 100.
