DF Spoilers / Re: Mistakes Harry has made that will come back
« on: September 24, 2021, 05:49:23 AM »
You can call it pulling the trigger on her emotionally, or you can say he showed her the truth.  When she realized that Martin was pulling the double cross and her little girl was going to die because of it, it pissed her off and she proceeded to rip his throat out as most loving mothers would.

Then Harry explains to her as she is turning why the Red King wanted to kill Maggie, further explained that as the youngest vamp, she could kill all of them with her death.  Susan is conflicted some as she is turning, then she looks at her daughter, she tells Harry she doesn't think she can do it.

Then she says to Harry; page 419 Changes
At that point, there was only one way to save little Maggie, they both knew it... Yes, she was telling him to cut her throat, it was the only way.

"One day I hope God will forgive me for giving birth to the idea that came next.  Because I never will.  I knew how angry she was.  I knew how afraid she was.  Her child was about to die only inches beyond her reach, and what I did to her was as good as murder".....

Sounds like he made a deliberate decision here.  Hey could have thought of something else, but he chose this.

DF Spoilers / Re: True Teleportation
« on: September 24, 2021, 05:38:53 AM »
Harry called it translocation.  I'm thinking that it may seem synonymous with teleportation, but I don't think it is.  Harry said he wouldn't touch it for like 40 or 50 years.  This gives you an idea of where Marcone is vs Dresden.  I think what Drakul was doing was an even higher level of magic as he didn't seem to need to set points to translocate to the way Marcone did.

Could the Archive do it? Hmm I'm not sure.  Eb who is one of the best wizards in the world has yet to display it when he could have.  It could be something that's not worth doing unless there is no other choice.

Harry is a member of Winter.  A Way to the Island may take him through territory that he's not welcome.

They knew they were about to go into battle one way or another when they came across Mavra, Drakul and company, if they are good warriors, and Wardens supposedly are, then they should have been ready.

Drakul by himself could have stomped all of them, even if they had a year to plan.  They can't beat him.

Not going to lie, I was really, really disappointed when Bill, Yoshimo, and Chandler FINALLY got a chance to fight on the page, and got completely curbstomped. It wasn't even close. They even had a freaking Sasquatch as backup and got their teeth kicked in.
I don't think they were even in Harry's league, to be honest, at least not by Battle Ground. No idea how they'd have measured up pre-Changes, but Winter Knight Harry completely outclasses them, in my reading of it.

Harry survived because he was for Drakul.  Mavra could have killed Dresden in an instant.  He was helpless.  He wouldn't have faired any better if Mavra wanted to kill him like the others.

I'm wondering how she will respond to Harry marrying Lara.

TBF, Harry didn't sacrifice Susan. Susan sacrificed Susan to get revenge on Martin. Once Susan was gone, Harry used the blood of the new ramp to kill the Red Court.

That's fair.  However Harry didn't really offer any options either.  In the heat of the moment, I completely agreed with what he did.  In hindsight however it appears that may have been the wrong decision.  I think a terrible blow to the Red Court (like Maggie sandbagging Lord Raith) may have been a better solution.  The power vacuum was not filled by allies, but enemies.

Interesting.  I wonder if it's more like Nicodemus loses the Noose in a fight with Harry.  Harry turns to see Marcone put it on.

DF Spoilers / Re: Wonder what Eb meant by this

Here is something else I found interesting:  He spun, eyes surrounded by white, his face was scarlet

Earlier:  His face was red.  Too red.  The veins stood out sharply in his head, his neck.  And the ground was shaking.

I'm not positive but it makes me curious if something else is going on here.  Jim did say that all the Senior Council members have a secret power that nobody knows about.  I'm wondering if this is a hint of what Eb's secret power is.  Kind of like the Hulk rages out, if Eb loses it, this destructive ability will manifest, as Harry found out.

My money's on Carlos he's due for a power up, White Council loyalist, Warden officer (Just like Eb used to be). If nothing else Ebenezar would figure Harry has enough responsibility, plus you know he's no longer a member of the White Council. I doubt they'd let the one guy who can break the laws be Harry.

Eb was the Captain of the Wardens.  Not sure but I think that means he was the leader of them behind The Merlin?

My opinion is that there are levels of wizards.  The top tier wizards are the Senior Council members.  So less than ten.  These wizards are the best, and most powerful, and have access to secret power that the lower tiers don't have.  They are head and shoulders above the next tier.  I see Dresden as being in the top few wizards of the 2nd tier.  He's head and shoulders above the third tier.

So it's like top tier has maybe 10 wizards (if that)
Second tier has like 50 wizards.  I see Harry as in the top of this tier, and able to reach the next tier eventually. (If you minus Demonreach and Winter Knight Mantle)
Third tier is like 16 year old Harry Dresden.  Powerful, capable, but can't stand with the big kids.
Fourth tier is where the bulk of the wizard population is.

I'm just spit balling here

DF Spoilers / Who will be the next Blackstaff? (If Eb dies)
« on: September 21, 2021, 05:18:33 AM »
Like I said, the Blackstaff chooses the wielder.  I really don't know if it's the Staff or if it's the person wielding it that decides.  Anyways who do you see getting it?  Besides Dresden, Luccio, and Carlos I can't think of likely candidates.  If you come up with other names, I will add them to the poll.

Last line of defense maybe or failsafe?  In other words, if he, the Blackstaff was in serious danger of going down in a close fight, it would automatically trigger the projectile killing the enemy.  It makes sense, the last thing Eb or the Council would want is for the Blackstaff to fall into enemy hands.  It just speaks to how close Harry may have come to actually defeating Eb. Or perhaps because of the emotional aspects of the fight, Eb lost his grip on that last line of defense.

I think it was more about emotional control rather than Harry being close to beating him.

DF Spoilers / Re: Harry actually should be out of the White Council
« on: September 21, 2021, 03:51:50 AM »
Sure it does.- Harry points it out to Morgan all the way back at the start of the series when he tries to harass Harry for binding Toot-toot.

The Seven laws only apply to humans, not Faeries, or Gods, or Vampires, or anything else.

Exactly.  Also he didn't bind Molly the way the Council set the laws.  They are talking about when you use someone's Name, or blood, or something that basically enslaves or controls a human.

DF Spoilers / Wonder what Eb meant by this

When he thought he killed Harry he said "Oh, lad.  Didn't think you were going to come at me again.  Didn't think it would trigger"

What would trigger?  What did he mean?  I don't think the spell was meant for the Beetle because it was just a small projectile the size of a quarter.  I'm wondering what exactly he's referring to.

DF Spoilers / Re: Mirror Mirror character changes ideas
« on: September 20, 2021, 05:10:21 AM »
My guess is that Harry didn't say he loved Susan in the basement of Bianca's mansion. She went feral, knocked him out but didn't kill him because of the poison in his blood, so she killed Justine instead.

Upon waking up, Harry got out and headed upstairs to find Susan fully turned with Bianca. He couldn't kill Susan, so he walked away rather than fighting.

I also like to think he still beat the Nightmare while unconscious, and ate his power. By not using it to destroy the mansion, is stayed within him, partially corrupting him.

I also think Bianca could have sent footage of Harry's attack at the party to the White Council, which declared him a full warlock. Since the place wasn't completely destroyed like it was in GP, security footage might have survived.

Thus Harry starts on the dark path with isolation and regret while being hunted by everyone.

Oh that's a great theory.  I don't think he beat the nightmare.  He's lost his love, and his power.  Bianca wants him to live a long life like this, and lets him leave.  He swears to himself that he will do whatever it takes to make her pay.  He asks Bob how he can charge up his power in a hurry.  Bob refuses to tell until Harry makes it an order.  It's there that he begins tapping into Necromancy.  He must start small in his weakened state, just a single shade at a time, but consumes more, and more.  Not only does he gain all his power back, he surpasses it.

As for his standing with the White Council.  I don't know if he will be declared a warlock.  I think he gets kicked out for violating the Accords.  It's later on that they discover he's using necromancy that they go after him, or maybe he nukes Bianca's place to get revenge resulting in many casualties, including mortal security.  White Council finds out, deems him a warlock.

I also wonder if Harry will be straight up evil, or will he be more like the Harry we wished he would be sometimes (smarter, doesn't hold back against enemies).  Maybe he see's killing other Harry's as not murder because it's just him lol
