DF Spoilers / Re: Margaret and a Coin? Harry's father murder?
« on: January 17, 2019, 12:58:35 PM »
It is possible that Margaret LeFay was a previous holder of Lasciel's coin.
It would explain why she thought she could get away with antagonizing so many powerful entities.  It would explain her ability with many different types of magic.  Lasciel could have tutored her on types of magic most wizards knew nothing about.  It would put her going to the dark side, perhaps being a founder of the Black Council, into an understandable framework.
There are some problems with this idea though.
First, Margaret and Lasciel should have been able to resist Lord Raith.  He would not have been able to even partially enthrall her if Lasciel was helping her.
But the big problem is that neither Nicodemus nor Lasciel ever mentioned to Harry that Margaret was a holder of Lasciel's coin.  Why would they not tell Harry that?  It might have been enough to get him to try it.

There is a long standing grudge between the White and Black Courts.  In the Dresden universe, Bram Stoker was a White Court agent who published a guide on how to destroy Black Court vampires.
It is not surprising that one of the Black Court would act against Lord Raith.

DF Spoilers / Re: Dead Beat Question
« on: November 14, 2018, 12:21:00 PM »
The issue as described by Bob in Dead Beat is, yes Harry ordered Bob to forget what he knew from his years with Kemmler.  However, when Cowl had possession, he could reverse that order.
So, after the events in Dead Beat Bob undertook to get rid of that knowledge permanently.  He did this be splitting off Evil Bob.  He did not seem to recall doing this, but it must have happened shortly after the end of Dead Beat.

DF Spoilers / Re: Some exposition I may have missed.

Justin tried to do some type of mind control magic on Harry.  He for the most part failed, and Harry killed him.
But it may be that Harry suffered some mental damage.  His memories from when he fled from Justin until he finally killed Justin seem shaky, as though parts of the experience are blocked from his mind.  This period was when he was with the Leanansidhe, and the impression I got was it might have been as much as a couple of weeks.
This whole experience has never really been clearly laid out in the books.

DF Spoilers / Re: Could Maggie have taken up a Coin?
« on: February 13, 2018, 06:12:26 PM »
In Blood Rites Lord Raith tells Harry he heard the conversation between Harry and Thomas in the portrait room.
He did not know Harry was Thomas' brother before that.  So, I don't think he realized Harry is the son of Margaret LeFay.  Many do know that, but it is a detail Lord Raith might have missed.

It does seem possible Margaret LeFae was a holder of Lasciel's coin.  There are two things that are against that idea though.
Neither Nicodemus nor Lasciel ever told Harry his mother was a previous holder.  Why not?  It would have been a strong argument to persuade Harry to try it as well.
The other thing is, with Lasciel's help, Margaret should not have been vulnerable to Lord Raith.  Lasciel should have been able to block the sex whammy thing for her.

Someone suggested in an old thread that perhaps Shagnasty was the skinwalker that  Morgan nuked.  He survived it, and over time was able to reform.  However, it would provide a strong reason for him to be pissed off at Morgan.
It was also suggested that Shagnasty's attack on Raith manor was to help Madelaine escape.  That is, she heard about Harry and Luccio visiting, and made a phone call asking for help.

DF Spoilers / Re: The mysteries of Maggie, Sr.
« on: November 25, 2017, 03:19:32 PM »
The main thing we know is who her likely associates were.  It is an interesting list.
Nicodemus - says he respected her.
Justin DuMorne - mentioned as an associate by Ebenezar.
Goodman Grey - calls her a piece of work.
Leanansidhe - mentioned throughout the series.
Binder - This one is speculation on my part.  Binder says some people talk about how they feel pity for vampires, Binder thinks they are fools.
Ebenezar - says the Wardens were under orders to arrest, and he had orders about her as well.  Why send the Blackstaff after a lone wizard?
Thomas Raith - calls her "one hell of a dangerous witch".
Chauncy - says she was headed for Hell, "but we lost her".

The above list suggests Margaret LeFae was involved in very shady business.  She had also broken at least some of the Laws of Magic.

The assessment is that Peabody would have known about Luccio's boot camp, but nobody thought to include him in the list of possible traitors.
As secretary, he would have known almost everything the Senior Council  knows.  The locations of safe houses and camps would have been in the orders and other forms he would have had the Senior Council sign.
In addition, renting or purchasing the land for the camps, and the order to deliver supplies and equipment would have gone through him.

DF Spoilers / Re: Black Magic - Intent, Fact & Knowledge
« on: October 23, 2017, 01:40:22 PM »
I think there is a WOJ that black magic corruption does not equate exactly with the 7 Laws of Magic.  The Laws are a simplification for use by the Council.
So breaking the Laws causes corruption 9 time out of 10, but in theory one could break a Law without the black magic corruption happening.  And also, something that is within the letter of the Laws might cause some corruption to occur.

DF Spoilers / Re: Was Justin preparing Harry to learn necromancy?

The above link refers to a post I made a while ago about Justin, Elaine and Harry.
I suspect that like Margaret LeFay, there is something important that we don't yet know about Elaine.
My idea was that Harry called Elaine almost as strong as he is.  Harry is in the top 50 to 100 wizards worldwide for his age group.  So, I don't think it is possible Justin DuMorne could have found two apprentices that powerful by chance.
We know from Blood Rites that Justin was an associate of Margaret LeFay.  I suspect Margaret and Justin worked together to learn how to create a Starborn.  After Margaret fled from Lord Raith Justin used that knowledge with Elaine's parents to create a second potential Starborn.
This theory explains why Justin was aware of both Harry and Elaine.  It also suggest Justin may have been the reason both Harry and Elaine became orphans.

DF Spoilers / Re: Many Questions on Proven Guilty

There are two things I would like to add here.
I support Evil Bob as the one who fixed Little Chicago.  I suspect he is able to pass Harry's threshold, and can counter Harry's wards.
The Angelic bodyguard was a retirement bonus.  It was not there during Proven Guilty.
