I tend to just create the main parts of my adventure and improv the rest but I can make available what I have written up, if theirs interest.

I personally would like to see it.

If you are a tech kind of individual, my wife and our group uses Obsidian Portal with character and setting information. Most of us have laptops (I use my IPad) and we have easy access to setting information that way.

This is what I'm going to do, and will be even more useful for me when I "upgrade" to my droid x next week.

No worries. Folks have a right to be disappointed (and we're some of those folks). I just want to make sure we do right by people, y'know?

Fred, by keeping us updated and being upfront about it, you are doing right by people.  The person in me understands (especially since I teach special education, trial and error is all part of the learning process), but the consumer in me wants my books!  Of course, the consumer in me will make do with the pdfs until my books get here, so as impatient as I am in this matter (thanks to the instant gratification society we live in!), I will make do with the awesomeness that is the DFRPG PDFs (for now :o)!

I too want to thank Fred for being up front and transparent, it takes guts to do that.  That being said, the consumer part of me that pre-ordered is still annoyed and impatient that it hasn't gotten here yet.  Oh well...maybe next week.

DFRPG / Re: Follow up to changing high concept

Lets say someone who has a high Concept of lets say "Pyromancer XY" goes from Channeling (Fire) to full blown evocation (fire, earth, air - for example). Then as long as he does not change his HC  to something like "Elementalist XY" or something else reflecting his broadened powers, i'd not allow him to invoke the aspect for anything but fire evocations. Also you could maybe compel the HC to make him fail other evocations... he is still learning to use something else than fire after all. And all these fate points can then be used to do cool stuff with the new elements :-)
So let him buy evocation, and then have him learn to use it on screen so to speak. And then at a later Major Milestone he can change his HC, and through having used his new power for a while he even has a good explanation for why he should be able to do so.

But you only get refresh points at major milestones, correct?  So are you saying you'd make him wait til the 2nd major milestone to "master" evocation?

Templates are suggestions, not anything cast in stone. You're encouraged to modify them or make up your own.

So in other words, it's up to you, but I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Was talking to a player about it.  But the main problem is, I was thinking of fate points and refresh points being interchangeable, but they're not.

DFRPG / Follow up to changing high concept

Ok, say a focused practitioner has taken both channeling and/or ritual.

If the player "bought up" from channeling to evocation, does the character still qualify as a FP?  There is no single template that requires only evocation.  My thought is yes, as channeling is a specific form of evocation, but that the character could buy up to evocation, but not become a full evoker until a major milestone (as technically this is "acquiring a new power" going from a single type to a broad type).  I'm thinking the same with Thaumaturgy/ritual as well and having to change high concept.

Thoughts?

DFRPG / Changing high concept?
« on: July 05, 2010, 05:24:52 PM »
Was just wondering if others thought it might be appropriate as characters grow in power.  Example, you start with a focused practitioner, who grows and becomes a full wizard.  Is it allowable (although, as GM I would probably say yes), to allow the high concept to change from say "Fire Slinging Wanna-Be" to "Hot Headed Pyro-Wizard" (or something like that, just off the top of my head)?

Luminos: Hmm that may be true. I wonder if one could make a ward with gates in it? Then again Mr Butter did use a wireless/cell phone based device in a circle without breaking it...

Yes, but Butters isn't a wizard.  He was IN the circle being shielded from the magical energies, not his own inherent magical energies interfering with the cell/cordless phone.

Personally (and I have) said that I wouldn't allow a wizard to use technology on a long term basis.  It takes away one of the inherent disadvantages that wizards suffer.

Check your evil hat account. Fred it putting up UPS tracking codes. Honestly though, it doesn't help at all. I've digressed from waking up in the morning idly wondering if the books will come, to refreshing the tracking page every 10 minutes just in cast they magically teleported to my doorstep.  ::)

The problem there for me is that I pre-ordered through my FLGS, and they have not gotten it from their distributor yet, and the distributor uses UPS.

So, I have no tracking number and no way of knowing if it has been sent to the distributor to be sent to the FLGS.  And even if the distributor does get it today, tomorrow, Friday or Saturday, the FLGS gets their shipments in on Tuesdays, so I have to wait until at LEAST next Tuesday to find out.
