DFRPG / Re: A few questions
« on: March 27, 2013, 12:56:11 AM »
So my group is meeting tomorrow for D&D. I'm going to take a poll to see whether the other players would want to go with Shibuya like one player does or if they would like to use Louisville, KY since we're all fairly familiar with it.

I'm not sure how many people will be playing though, it could be anywhere between two to four. Any last minute advise?

DFRPG / A few questions
« on: March 24, 2013, 08:04:00 PM »
First off, I got my physical copies of the books recently. -does the happy dance-

Now on to the actual point of this post. My D&D 3.5 group has expressed some interest in giving DFRPG a shot after me giving some explanation of what's going down in the Dresdenverse. None of them have read any of the books so, expect for myself, we'll be starting from the ground floor. I plan on running at least Night Fears to get them familiarized with the concept of Aspects, Stress and the conflict style if the game.

I was wondering what you guys think about a few things. I have one player who has expressed interest in setting the game in Shibuya prefecture in Japan but I know next to nothing about the area. I'm not sure if we should go straight for building our own city or if we should use Balitmore from Your Story.

Thanks for all the ideas everyone. The group is meeting tomorrow to continue our D&D campaign and I'm going to see about running Night Fears as an introductory crash course on Dresden. Any last minute advise?

I will say what I said in the other thread. Just kill em all and by all I mean the bcv, there is nothing doing your character from dropping a fire nuke into the grave

Seems to be the default action in the Dresdenverse. Kill it with fire! BOOM!

DFRPG / How should I go about this?
« on: February 26, 2013, 11:39:11 PM »
Tomorrow our group meets to run the next session of our D&D campaign and I want to try to better explain DFRPG to them so we can possibly get to work on running a couple of the pregenerated casefiles to get them familiarized with how things work. None of the players have read any of the DF books as of yet but the little bits I told them about last week, the Vamp and Faerie Courts, seemed to interest them.

So to get to the point, how should I explain DFRPG without giving away too much of the story?

So in short, Yea, wipe them out. The only repercussion i can forsee are those dealing with your own Court, if Titiana did not want them wiped out or something but i highly doubt she cares

In addition in Cold Days.

Spellcasters run out of juice pretty fast. At best, you've got 4 casts, and after that, it's consequences. Unless you run exclusively boss-level fights with numerically inferior, higher quality opponents, sustainability becomes an issue.

My old GM got around this by allowing us to cast equal to our Discipline score without taking mental stress. Of course that didn't keep me from tossing around some serious mojo when I had to. Slagged a noob Denarian with a bolt of lightning after I rolled a true +4 on the dice.

I imagined them more as an enchanted item for single use. I got the Incite Emotion: Fear part down. I'm more hung up on the illusion part.

DFRPG / Phantasm Balls
« on: February 16, 2013, 07:40:41 AM »
As I was going through my old city sheets last night, and realizing how incredibly terrible they were. I dredged up an idea I'd had for my character in my old GM's Indianapolis game.

"Phantasm" Ball
Description: A rune covered golf ball that creates an illusion of the Tall Man from the motion picture Phantasm and induces a feeling of fear in a target(s).

I never did bother to flesh them out past the description since the group fell apart due to work schedules. Anyway, anyone have any ideas on how to flesh them out?

I have absolutely no intentions of putting The Doctor in any form of combat at all. I've been toying with a few ideas over the day but none of them are fully formed yet. I'm mostly considering him as a sort of consultant for the PCs who, in true Doctor fashion, arrives just in time to help the PCs to find a way to take down a powerful alien conspiracy.

Intelligence isn't a skill. It's covered by the other two. And the doctor has no Toughness at all, much less Mythic.

Been a long while since I've gone through the skills and such so I'm pretty rusty with the terms. Hindsight the toughness is something I didn't really think through.
