DFRPG / Re: Conversions for Old World of Darkness Character Types
« on: July 22, 2010, 09:16:05 PM »
I've been doing some thinking on this and came up with the following houserules for a Mage the Awakening homebrew using DFRPG.

Each Path (there are 5) has its own ruling and inferior Arcana. Each Path also has an advantage (be it composure or resolve in nWOD terms).

Therefore, when choosing a path, the mage gains a +1 conviction to spells cast out of his ruling arcana and -1 conviction to all spells from the inferior arcana. In addition, each path gains a +1 to conviction (Obrimos or Mastigos), or +1 to discipline (Acanthus, Moros, Thyrsus) for spellcasting.

The sight is no longer an ability, but rather a very specific spell cast within a specific Arcana costing 0 stress once per scene.

Everything else follows the Mage the Ascension houserules put forth by DMW.

Comments? Suggestions?

DFRPG / Chronomancer issues
« on: July 20, 2010, 08:06:11 PM »
Hi all,

I have a player that is playing a focused practitioner with the chronomancy specialty. This has of course evolved from their powers of Cassandra's Tears and Psychometry. Anyway, They came up with a spell that I found rather ingenious, but somewhat scary (nevermind that whole sixth law thing...  ;D)

Stuck Between the Ticks
Power: 10 shifts (assuming the base 3 for maneuver cost)

3 maneuvers, 2 exchanges
Places the aspects of "Stuck", "Between", and "Tick" on a single target for 2 exchanges. These aspects each subtract 2 from a targets athletics (dodge) skill for the duration of the spell.
This spell is designed as a last ditch "time-out" spell for the chronomancer, when all seems lost.

Is this legal? Just wondering.

edit: Legal as in rules wise, not the sixth law type legal.  ::)

Please continue! Personally, I would love to see your take on the new WoD as well, especially for Mage: the Awakening. Since both DF and MtA both use magic based off the pentacle, it would be interesting to see how DFRPG could handle the system. Also, seeing the Scelesti and the Tremere Liches written down could provide some really interesting adversaries for my players in the Dresdenverse. Heck, now that I'm thinking about it, the Seers could form the perfect background for the Black Council...

Thanks for the hard work!  ;D

The idea's already been bounced around on the boards. Let's see if I can find that thread....

AH! here it is.

So on those notes, would it be possible to use a Stunt similiar to "Two Gun Joe" from SOTC as an applicable stunt to using two weapons in combat?

Maybe the red court vamp was cursed by some creature from the Nevernever. Now whenever it turns someone, they become a Chupacabre as well, thus continuing the bloodline.

One thing to add is that Vegas has its own Undertown as well.

Perfect place for some big bad to rear its ugly head. Maybe a spirit of despair, or a Black Court enclave deep beneath the city.

This is definitively NOT a nuke. I did imagine them being something similar to a Sword of the Cross, being able to meet all catches, but that was about it. I just wasn't sure how much they would cost. My big problem was the whole two guns deal. Together, or separately, how do you pay for them?

Thanks for your input. I appreciate it.

DFRPG / Items of power with the same abilities

I have a player that would like to have a pair of pistols similiar to the infamous Colt from the Supernatural TV show. I know that the cost is bundled into one category, but how would you cost two items with exactly the same abilitites? Cost it as one pistol and give it a reduced bonus due to multiple items? I'm kinda stumped.

DFRPG / Kublacon, Memorial Day Weekend

Anyone planning on going? I signed up for a couple of games, but didn't see any DFRPG games posted. If there's enough interest, maybe we can all get together for a game. Or at least do a meet & greet and talk about the game  ;D

I agree with you for the most part. However, there are individuals that simply aren't cowardly or a wimp at heart. A truly enlightened individual would not suffer from any of those lesser emotions.

I'm just thinking of those Major badass types that can crush your will simply by staring at you. Other than really high skills and the right stunts, I'm thinking that there might be more going on under the hood.

DFRPG / Physical "Building Block" powers as Mental or Social powers
« on: May 14, 2010, 06:03:22 PM »
I was thinking about the boosted physical powers in the book and it struck me that there is a lack of any power that does this for Mental or Social attributes. Has anyone tried to tie these powers to another aspect other than the physical aspect?

My intial thought was a Buddha type character, completely unflappable and serene in all environements, no matter what is thrown at them. Maybe an ancient monk versed in martial arts who has been enlightened?

Thoughts?

No worries, that's why I posted them.

I did realize last night that it is possible to have a 12 stress track within the RAW.  So I guess my "fudge" of the stress track was actually correct.  I also realized after I posted the NPC sheet that the consequence track could cause some confusion, so I will rework that section and repost it later this weekend.  If anyone has any other suggestions, I'll take 'em.

LOL. Great Idea.

I don't know if it works RAW, but dang... I'd allow it just for being creative. :D

You should post this elsewhere on the boards. Maybe Jim B. will see it and think, "oh snap!", a new fancy magic trick for Harry!
