Can a Fetch change its Catch with True Shapechanging and Modular abilities?  For example, if it shapechanges into a vampire, can it transform its Catch vs [cold iron and summer magic] into [sunlight, holy attacks, fire and stakes to the heart] and lose the previous vulnerabilities while in the vampire form?

DFRPG / Common Rituals
« on: September 13, 2017, 12:30:45 PM »
What are some examples of Common Rituals?  I have allowed players to draw Protective Circles, conduct Exorcisms, bless water to make it holy (using Conviction instead of Discipline), and charms that effectively add an Aspect.  Are there any other ideas that other people on the board have done that they would like to share?

If a White Court Vampire with leftover refresh and a tendency towards heroics were to pick up a Sword of the Cross in a Truly Heroic way, could the Sword destroy the white court demon within him and transform him into a Pure Mortal.

For example, if Thomas were to use Amoracchius in a heroic manner, such as defending Justine and being prepared to sacrifice his life to save her while doing so, could that action destroy the demon within him and leave him a human?

DFRPG / White Court vulnerability to True Emotion
« on: November 17, 2016, 04:37:17 AM »
I assume most campaigns on this forum limit a White Court Vampire's vulnerability to the opposite emotion to the emotion they can incite (example, True Love if they can incite lust, True Courage if they can incite fear, etc...

Has anyone on the board run it so that all True "good" emotions act as their Catch?  Did it go well?

DFRPG / Full Offense
« on: June 21, 2016, 05:58:41 PM »
I was thinking of adding a Full Offense option into my current Dresden game.  The game already allows Full Defense (which lets a character gain +2 to their defense roll at the cost of their other actions including attacks).  The Full Offense would let a character add 2 to their damage but would impose a -3 to their defense value.

The Full Offense can be used to represent Haymakers, Wild Swings, Aggressive Cleaves etc... in HtH combat and Double Taps (for semi-auto) or longer bursts (when combined with Spray attacks for full auto).     It could also represent setting and bracing to make a called shot.

Any thoughts from the forum on this?

DFRPG / Tasers and Stun/Shock Weaponry damage ratings
« on: May 27, 2016, 06:30:38 PM »
How do people treat tasers and other shock weapons in Dresden?  What sort of Weapon value should they have?

On a similar note, how do people treat poison?

DFRPG / Dresden Files Cooperative Card Game
« on: April 20, 2016, 08:56:31 AM »
Technically, this isn't roleplaying game material, but I suspect that a lot of RPGers would be interested in backing this KickStarter for a Dresden Cooperative Card Game (from Evil Hat):

DFRPG / Clients of Monoc?
« on: April 03, 2016, 05:41:18 AM »
I am running a Dresden RPG where the PCs are all agents of Monoc.  The team is based out of the regional North American office in New Orleans.  Their case officer is Magdelena Hvid, a Valkyie.

The city has a contract with them to act as a Supernatural SWAT team (the chief of Police came up from Special Investigations, and the mayor belongs to an official recognition that mixes Voudoun with Christianity; more people are in the know thanks to the Voudoun influences than you might expect in a more typical game).

There is also a very small cell of FBI agents who are in the know (less than a dozen) who are using off book funding to finance the war on the cartels that are controlled by the Red Court* (the official cover is the War on Drugs).  Given the small number of agents that they have, with limited strength since they are mortals, occasionally they hire Monoc for some of these missions (plus Monoc operatives are deniable if they get caught operating in Mexico or Central America).

The characters have 11 Refresh and 40 skill points.  The characters so far are:
-a British SAS Commando from World War II who died and was brought back from the dead by Anubis as his emissary (military skills, Sponsored Magic, Marked By Power, Ghost Talker)
-an archaeologist who deciphered a StarGate-like device that opened a gate to part of the NeverNever inhabited by the descendants of an ancient Egyptian culture. He was trapped there for several years and taught himself Thaumaturgy by deciphering Egyptian runes.
-a Native American scion of a skinwalker that can adopt the shape of any animal that she touches, as long as it's dead. The reason they have to be dead is if the animal is alive, she absorbs their mind as well.  She did this with a mountain lion that was still alive early on in her career, and the mountain lion is permanently etched into her psyche; she occasionally has to battle for control with the beast for control, but she can also borrow its traits with out fully transforming, such as Echoes of the Beast and it's speed or even its claws.
-A cambion (half-incubus) with inhuman strength/toughness, retractable bat wings/claws, epic seduction skills and a feeding dependency on lust.
-A mortal that was granted the ability to shapeshift into a cat, a seal or a hawk because of a bet made between three fey who wanted to see whether land, sea or air was the most advantageous
-a Pure Mortal soldier, inspired by Hannibal Smith, with strong tactical skills that was disavowed by his agency after learning about the supernatural

There are also three Einhenjar NPCs which have a suspicious resemblance to the Warriors Three from the Thor comics, but with guns.

I'm trying to think who else might hire Monoc.  Any suggestions from the board?

DFRPG / Stacking Stunts with Powers
« on: March 17, 2016, 05:32:27 AM »
Can someone with the On My Toes stunt (which grants +2 to Initiative) stack that bonus with Inhuman Speed (which grants +4 to Initiative) to get a total +6 Initiative bonus?

Can someone who has the On My Toes stunt and Modular Abilities Power use 1 point of the Modular Abilities Pool to upgrade her On My Toes stunt to the Inhuman Speed Power, or would she have to use 2 points from the pool to buy Inhuman Speed?  If she had to use two points, would Inhuman Speed stack with her innate, non-modular On My Toes stunt, or is the point spent in that stunt lost when she uses the Modular Abilities on any kind of speed power?

Similarly, can someone who has the Lethal Weapon stunt stack the damage bonus with Inhuman Strength or Claws?

If they have Modular Abilities, can they use only one point from the abilities pool to upgrade the innate Stunt into a Power to gain Inhuman Strength?

DFRPG / Are there rules for making holy water?
« on: January 06, 2016, 04:21:10 AM »
Are there rules for making holy water?  Specifically:

Can a Pure Mortal priest/nun/rabbi/imam who isn't in the know make "actual" holy water just by using his High Concept and a Conviction roll, or does he need a Conviction stunt?

Is the ability to create holy water available to anyone with a Faith Power?

Does holy water that is removed from a church lose it's holy quality at sunrise/sunset?

Can you use thaumaturgy to create holy water?

DFRPG / Jack Skellington in the DresdenVerse
« on: October 22, 2015, 01:59:18 PM »
Jack Skellington is the protagonist of the 1993 film The Nightmare Before Christmas. He is the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town and lives in a fantasy world based solely on the Halloween holiday.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Skellington

Any thoughts on how he might appear in the DresdenVerse?  I'm thinking that Halloween town would be his Demesne in the NeverNever.

DFRPG / Crossing over Sin City into the Dresdenverse
« on: April 21, 2015, 02:06:37 PM »
This is an idea I had for crossing over Sin City into the Dresdenverse.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sin_City

The version of Sin City that exists in the Dresdenverse has parrallel versions of the characters in the series.

The Roark dynasty is a branch of the White Court vampires that feed off of greed.  They control the city.

The first "player character" is Marv.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marv_(Sin_City).  His good friend Dwight tells us that "most people think Marv is crazy. He just had the rotten luck of being born in the wrong century. He'd be right at home on some ancient battlefield swinging an axe into somebody's face. Or in a Roman arena, taking his sword to other gladiators like him."

In the Dresdenverse continuity, this assessment is more accurate than even Dwight might know.  Unknown to all, Marv is an amnesiac Einherjar Changeling of the White Court.  His father was a Frost Giant.  His mother was a Valkrie.  The "union" was not consensual.  Marv was abandoned and left for dead, but he survived the winter and was found by Vikings who raised him as one of their own.  When he came of age, he joined the ranks of their warriors and became one of their most ferocious warriors.  Eventually, he fell, and was brought to Valhalla.  Unfortunately, his Frost Giant lineage was detected, and he was denied entry to the afterlife.  His spirit was supposed to be cast out into the netherealm, but his mother snuck him into Midgard where he was reincarnated. He is literally a lost soul, and ends up in Sin City, deprived of his memories.  He's not happy here in Sin City, but at least he belongs...

DFRPG / The Avengers, written up for Dresden
« on: March 05, 2015, 07:46:04 PM »
I just saw the latest Avengers 2 trailer and thought it might be fun to stat up the Avengers.

Since they're superheroes, as opposed to "normal" heroes I decided to give them extra Refresh as needed.  Most of them are written up on 20-25 Refresh, 40+ skills points, although Iron Man costs a bit more (50+).

Feedback is welcome.

DFRPG / Equivalent Tattoos of St Giles for White Court
« on: November 27, 2014, 03:55:00 AM »
The Tattoos of St Giles are supposed to be exclusively for Red Court, but has anyone ever tried adapting a similar idea for White Court vampires and Virgins? In theory the same ritual could be used to keep the demon within a White Court Virgin in check.  Perhaps they could be named for St Dymphna, the patron saint for mental illness?

Thoughts?
