DF Spoilers / Ummm...what happened to the post about...

Nic and the artifacts?

DF Spoilers / Skin Game
« on: January 16, 2024, 02:59:56 AM »
Just saying it outloud:

When Butters meets Nic in front of Michael's house and the Sword of Faith becomes a lightsaber---Just WOW! The whole scene and really, the whole evolution of Butters is a wonderful part of the Dresden Files. Remember when Thomas described him as a coward? As much as we have a cast of supporting characters in DF, Butters has really grown more than any other character, I think--except maybe Toot.

Anyway--Cheers---Just needed to say it outloud!

Good times!

DF Spoilers / Question
« on: June 16, 2023, 02:27:59 PM »
While we wait for another story, I thought I'd ask this: What are your top few things you look forward to learning the answers to from all the various topics we've discussed since this forum began?

DF Spoilers / Names
« on: April 23, 2023, 05:52:43 PM »
Just was reading something else and the name, Shiro, came up. It means White. Looked up Sanya, it means Defender of Man, and Michael, who is like or resembles God.

I'm guessing many knew this already, but I thought it was kinda cool.

I mean, Harry says Names are important and have power.

DF Spoilers / Magic bullets
« on: December 27, 2022, 02:35:50 AM »
Hi Folks---Hope you're well and enjoying the holidays.

We know Harry uses a revolver. I wonder if he would consider attaching something magical to the bullets he uses. There were the Dragon's breath loads he mentions in one of the books (A Kincade appearance, I believe). He seemed to think there were some cool possibilities. So, how about some magic bullets?

I guess the iron content could already be effective against the Fae, but what about other creatures? Maybe an Outsider?

What do you think?

DF Spoilers / How did you find The Dresden Files?
« on: March 11, 2022, 05:28:34 PM »
I first found the TV series, as I suspect did many of you. I didn't realize it was based on a novel until I was having a discussion with a waitress in a seedy bar. I've no idea how we even got to the topic other than maybe through science fiction, but she said I should definitely try the books. So, around 2010, I dived in and was transported to a new world. Dresden was a welcome respite from my real world woes and Dresden and I became fast friends. Over the years, Dresden's kinda been like family. I met Jim at the Big Trouble in Little China screening/book signing several years ago and got to say thanks. The theater was full of supporters I'm sure were there to share their own thank yous.

Dresden still provides respite at times. There's a familial comfort in rereading the stories or listening to them.

Hope you are well, Forum readers. This place is like Dresden, too. Familiar and comfortable.

Thanks---Brien

DF Spoilers / Prequels
« on: February 02, 2022, 08:21:09 PM »
Question: If you could have a prequel to the Dresden Files utilizing characters from the series (either known explicitly or only alluded to), who would you most want to see and why?

I think Maggie's (Mama Dresden) Adventures in the Never Never could be fun. What started as a mapping of the Ways would lead to all kinds of adventures. (Or maybe her adventures led to the mapping of the Ways.) And maybe along the way, we find out what makes Malcolm a truly good man.

Hope all are well here in the Dresden forum. Cheers---Brien

DF Spoilers / Demonreach, Ley lines, and Harry's connection
« on: August 26, 2021, 08:00:40 PM »
A thought...Harry is able to bind Ethniu in Battleground on the shores of Lake Michigan and he says that's the extent/limit of his reach. Alfred's power interacts with Harry's now giving his shield, energy, whatever a green tint. If the island and it's prisoners are the source of the ley line energy in the world, and Alfred is the island (hmmm...), shouldn't Harry be able to do a binding from anywhere the ley lines are regardless of his proximity to the island?

DF Spoilers / The Sight --A question
« on: August 14, 2021, 02:54:56 PM »
In Proven Guilty, Harry pulls up his sight to inspect the bathroom where Pell was attacked and he confirms there's something "spooky" at work. Would he have been able to use his Sight to look at Luccio in Dead Beat to confirm his thought that Corpse Taker took over Luccio's body? I know it was a spur of the moment decision, but if given another couple of moments, would he have been able to do it?

We know Murphy had a blazing angel look to herself through Harry's sight.
I figure Luccio would've had something recognizable (Not that Harry would know what to look for after the body switch--something tainted maybe?)

DF Spoilers / Dead Beat reread and faves
« on: August 06, 2021, 02:06:45 AM »
Rereading again. I love this book. It such a good read!

What's your Favorite scene? One of mine is Dresden infusing his mind fortress with hellfire against Corpse Taker.
What's your Favorite line? "Polka will never die!" (Hard to beat.)
Best supporting character? Butters....and Sue.
Best new character? Intro of the Erlking?! (and Sue)

Share you faves of this amazing novel!

That is all.

Cheers--Brien

DF Spoilers / Old topic probably, but...question
« on: July 04, 2021, 02:06:21 PM »
I vaguely remember a mention of Dresden and Supernatural years ago and recently, I've been listening to Kim Harrison's Hollows series.

Question: If you could crossover Dresden with another series (Urban Fantasy or other genre), which would it be and why? Follow-up question: How would you go about bringing Harry into that world?

DF Spoilers / Harry and NAMES
« on: May 22, 2021, 02:15:57 AM »
Anyone have thoughts of Harry naming beings and, thereby, having power/influence over them?

General Toot-Toot---He seems to be growing each time Harry sees him. (And he gets new title from Harry.)
Lasciel (Lash)--Harry doesn't give in to the coin and Lasciel's shadow becomes Lash.
Uriel (Uri--He was advised not to do that)
The Nickelheads (Denarians)
Octakongs (Fomor creatures--don't think this one qualifies, but...)

Anyway---Hope you are well. I do enjoy reading through all your thoughts and musings.

Cheers---Brien

DF Spoilers / Summer Knight foreshadowing
« on: May 07, 2021, 02:43:04 AM »
Hey All---I've been listening to Summer Knight again. In chapter 17, Harry brings Elaine to the Summer Court for help. While talking to Harry, Aurora refers to him as dangerous and says, "From the beginning you were meant to be a destroyer." I suspect many of you reread and caught this already, but I thought this was cool with all the Starborn chatter popping up with Peace Talks and Battleground. I'm finding it fun to reread/relisten to the series and notice things that weren't really as significant at the time.

What have you noticed?

Anyway--This isn't necessarily in need of responses, but I felt the need to share.

Thanks for indulging me.

Cheers----Brien

DF Spoilers / What about Bob...
« on: May 02, 2021, 07:01:15 PM »
Why is Bob confined to a skull? I know he needs to be there before the sun rises or he's doomed, but why is he confined at all? I mean, why can't he come and go as he, the Spirit, wants?

We know he works with whomever possesses him, and that he's a spirit of intellect and all that, but why isn't he a free spirit? Likewise with Bonea...

When they are born (created), are they automatically bound? Seems convenient for the possessor of the skull (or whatever construct of safety), but problematic for the spirit.

And Evil Bob...Is Evil Bob just floating around somewhere being all free-spirited?

Is there a WoJ?

Thanks!

DF Spoilers / Mavra and Harry in Grave Peril--Possibilities?
« on: April 25, 2021, 04:34:12 PM »
I've been relistening to Grave Peril. At Bianca's party when Mavra appears on the stairs, she (it) mentions that she's glad they are finally meeting and they (Mavra and Harry) have a great deal in common and that they should talk.

“A pleasure,” Mavra whispered. “To meet you, at last, wizard. We should talk. I suspect we have much in common.”

With all the speculation about MM and the recent thread about Mavra and the Gray Council, I'm wondering about the possibility that Harry's decision that leads to MM is somehow connected to a conversation that he didn't have with Mavra in GP.

Possible thought...(and I think it's been suggested...) Mavra is Harry's grandmother (Eb's wife or lover). Explains Eb's hatred of vamps, Mavra's wizard skills and possible connection to WC--which suggests that others would know about Mavra (Listens to Wind, Martha, the Gatekeeper). Maybe, The Merlin and Eb were both in love with Mavra. (There always seems to be animosity between them). With all of the people in the know hesitant to discuss the Starborn stuff with Harry, it seems to me that there's more to the story than just a Starborn is this or that. (I know--obvious statement) With Starborn popping up all over the place, then maybe, Drakul's been manipulating things for a very long time to get to Harry's version of a Starborn, which could be waaaay scarier than other starborn. Makes me think of the Bene Gesserit in Herbert's Dune manipulating the bloodlines to get to the Kuizatz Haderach they want, but end of with something worse instead.

Ok. What do you think?
