You may prefer keeping it at 100 posts = wizard, then nothing special for more posts.  Just my two cents.
That's what I'm thinking.  I was originally gonna launch without any post-count classifications at all. :)

I'll go even more dirt simple for you.

Post spoilers in the spoilers forums.

I'm sure you have... but did try setting CHMOD to 777 in the directory where the AVs are to be uploaded?  I work with vBulletin Board software which is pretty similiar to this, I can check and see what they say to do...

All that's done.  It doesn't seem to be a directory permissions based issue.  It's more a problem with the software not seeming to recognize that a file upload's happened -- even though PHP's configuration is set to explicitly allow such things.

Hahahahaha... I don't think you understand how quickly people will become "wizards".

<-- has over 14,000 posts to OverClocked Remix, with the 9th-most posts there.

Well, I can always adjust the number of posts per level, or add more.  I'm not expecting to attach a lot of meaning to 'em.

Hi Folks!!!
I'm VERY interested in learning how to play the Dresden RPG?  I've never played RPG's before so, I'm looking for suggestions of where to start.  Are they somewhat easy to play?  Would I need any special equiptment?  If so, where do I acquire such things?  Is there a list of books that are needed for the Dresden RPG?  Where are they found?
Thank you in advance for any & all assistance!  It'll be greatly appreciated!!!  :-)
                     Karen
The RPG's not out yet, but you can learn more about it at http://www.dresdenfilesrpg.com/

You'll just need a handful of six-sided dice (or some specialty dice that you can buy, but don't HAVE to buy), plus the book, when it comes out.

I dunno, I find 'em easy to play, but I've been playing them since third grade. :)

Fred,

Does that classification, like apprentice, mortal, etc. come with the Avatar?  I couldn't find where that came from.

Right now the classifications are:

Mortal - New Member (0 posts)
Apprentice - Posting Member (10 posts)
Wizard - Frequent Poster (100 posts)
Warden - Specific board moderator
White Council - Global Moderator
The Merlin - Site Administrator

DFRPG / Re: At what point in the series....
« on: May 27, 2006, 05:41:09 PM »
At what point in the series will the RPG be set? (Since some characters tend to change somewhat as the series evolves.)

I guess I am wondering if there is a particular point in the timeline where adventures are assumed to occur, or if the game will be set up with the idea that we could play at any point in the sequence. (If the game is set so that play could occur anywhere, this might mean that several versions of the same characters could be appropriate. "Here is Harry at the end of book three"; that kind of thing.)

I can see advantages each way.
People can diverge from whatever point in the series they want to.  We'll do our best to provide the tools to do just that (really, it shouldn't be too hard, either way).

We're going to "cover" the books up through Proven Guilty at the very least, and may even incorporate little bits of what's going on in book nine (tentatively, I believe, titled 'White Night').

Ok, while this isn't "exactly" about these forums, it's definitely related...

The McAnally's mailing list link has been replaced by the list for these forums, but will we still be able to access the archives of the mailing list?  Truth be told, I've deleted a lot of stuff simply figuring that if I ever wanted access to it I could just go to the archives!

If they've been wiped (or made otherwise unavailable) it won't be the end of the world, as I'm sure there are members out there who have archived everything.  Still, I would like to know if we'll still be able to get to them!
They're not wiped -- the list isn't even decommissioned yet.  I just unlinked it:

(typed that link from memory, apologies if it's wrong)

Hmm.  I'm worried that that could tread onto the territory of fan fiction, which is a no-no.  I'll keep this on my radar, though, and see what comes of it.

ok it's been a while i think it's time to admit i may have killed my reg email.

i changed my email address in the did you miss your email part to my new address after i first registered but my net connection has decided to be dodgy as hell today, constantly reconnecting, so i don't know if it sent through one or twenty times. but that was over an hour ago and i haven't received an email to either account so i may be having the same problem as the others.

the email address i prefer is behind_the_wall_59@hotmail.com and the user name is Rage

can you let me know what's happening? thanks!

I've pushed your registration through.

Yeah, the fanfiction stuff is pretty simple: if Jim knows about it, he has to do something about it.  He's legally responsible to do something about it, because to fail to do that, would mean that he's giving up what is, essentially, his trademark, to stuff that he's created.  He can't fail to do that.  So on anything we know Jim to frequent, he can't be exposed to it.

Would this be an appropriate area to have a thread that gives us a schedule of Jim's personal appearances? I would love to hear Jim speak the truth in person.
I may need to put together a forum for "Jim-the-Person" type stuff, but for the time being, I expect that such postings -- outside of what shows up on Jim's Website (http://www.jim-butcher.com/news/) -- will show up under the announcements board, at the top of the list.

For now, we're gonna stick with themed avatars stored on the server, with the possibility of expanding later on so that established members can link to external avatars (though my particular part of the jury is still out on this).

The avatar I have is, indeed, of me -- I wanted the idea that the moderators of the board stood out a little to be in place.  You'll find, when they post, that Jim, Shannon, and Ashton have personal avatars as well.

I would welcome submissions of themed avatars, certainly.  I'm trying to keep them in a relatively consistent format ("Livejournal Friendly" -- 100x100, with a nested white and black border around the content), but if you don't mind me tinkering with the ones you've put together to make them fit that, I'm happy to take submissions in whatever form.

That said, I'd also prefer that you contact me by private message (there's a little icon over on the left, I think) with any submissions/requests, rather than posting to the thread, but really, get 'em to me however, and I'll put them under consideration.
