Site Suggestions & Support / Re: Rules on graphics?

Jury's out.  I haven't had to deal with image files in signatures before, so it's a bit of a question mark for me, still.  We'll explore the policy as things go on.

For the time being, I would say, keep the height and width of any images you put in your signatures to an intelligent minimum -- not too much larger than the 'Jim-Butcher.Com Community' graphic you see at the top of the page, which is 400 pixels wide and 50 pixels tall.

Just a wild guess, but the uploading avatar issue is probably a permissions issue on the image directory you're writing to. I had no problem uploading avatars on a test SMF installation, but I've run into that problem with a phpBB board before.
Nope, it's not that.  The permissions check out.  I can even get stuff written to that directory when I have it download an image that's too large and resize it to size constraints, storing it locally.  It just doesn't like accepting uploads (it seems) for some reason -- even though PHP is configured to allow file uploads, and regardless of whether or not PHP is configured to run in "safe mode".  It's a stumper!

I want to be careful about what sort of images we end up choosing to display, but that's a thought.

No rule on them yet, but don't get outta hand with 'em. :)

I think, though I'm not sure, that Jim definitely had the JMS run of Spider-Man in mind, though how much he treated as canon, I don't know.

The code was in the link -- when you clicked it, you sent it.

Well, that should be pretty clearly indicated by which forums show up with the gold diamond next to them, and which threads have the 'new' yellow link next to 'em.

You can click on the 'new' yellow-button-linky-thing by each thread to jump straight to the new post within the thread.

As far as smooshing them all togehter in one place?  I'm not entirely sure.  Though, there is a page for seeing the 10 most recent...

I've also had the extreme delay in getting the registration email - it's been about an hour and a half, and still nothing.  Help?  User name wavsite, email wavsite.groups@gmail.com.  Hope I didn't typo, that would be so embarrassing...

Note - had to use wavsite123 to post this, 'cause it says "wavsite" has been used, so I know I'm in the DB, but just tried logging in and it says "must verify email address first".
You should be set

Could we have a Mouse avatar?
Tough one!  I don't have any art that references Mouse just yet, but I'll make an icon if I do.

How do I chose/change my avatar?
Go to your profile (link at the top of the page), and edit your 'Forum Profile Information', found on the right.

To be honest, I kind of like having themed avatars for this board.
That was my slowly-developing opinion as well.

What I'm trying to do, for the time being, is this: give individual moderators (Fred and Ashton) and important people (Shannon and Jim) their own avatar icons, so their posts will stand out in more ways than one.

It's possible eventually that we'll extend the ability to link to externally-stored avatars for "good citizens" and the like, but that's a ways off. :)

Just the fixed list of avatars for now.  For some reason, the software has been really persnickety about allowing the uploading of avatars (in other words, it don't work, for reasons which appear to have stumped some experts I asked about it).  So you're stuck with what we've got -- apologies!

(If there's something Jim-related out there that seems to be missing, I'm happy to add in new avatars, just let me know.)

Also, since you brought it up, you can sign up to be notified whenever something new gets posted to a particular thread, or all of a particular forum.  Just click on the "notify" button at the top of a thread or a forum and you'll be signed up for notices by email.

Actually, MySQL is the database the software uses.  The actual forum software is Simple Machines Forum.  Good stuff.

Innnnteresting.  I only saw the Priscellie one signed up -- no priscilla at all.  So something was weird there, at the least.

There are a number of folks with gmail addresses still waiting.  Maybe something's up with gmail.

EDIT: And I should have said -- I've activated you and had it try to send you an email to that effect.
