DF Spoilers / Applying a new coat of paint
« on: July 17, 2017, 06:51:03 PM »
Jim has said that he likes to take a story idea, and give it a new coat of paint.  I wanted to start a discussion about which book, movie, tv show ideas you could see Jim using in the Dresden series.

I was thinking he might take the idea of a horcrux idea from the Harry Potter series.  The idea that you can place a piece of your soul into something, giving you an anchor to the mortal world to prevent death.  I think that the blue print could already be there with Mantle's, soulfire, and things like that.  I was thinking that maybe this is how Cowl can defend himself from a death curse.  What do you think?  What idea's do you think Jim might use in the future parts of the series?

DF Spoilers / The most frightening Denarian yet?
« on: July 04, 2017, 12:57:22 AM »
For the longest time I believed Ferrovax was Nemfected at Bianca's ball.  However my brother came up with what I thought was a pretty good idea.  Jim said that Ferro's gift was gold, and jewels.  My brother said that maybe one of the gold coins was from one of the Fallen.

That's a pretty scary prospect right there.  A Dragon joined with a Fallen.  This makes sense for a few of reasons.

1.  Nicodemus believes the Black Council is working with some of the Fallen, and wants them stopped.  So Cowl getting one of the Fallen he's aligned with to Ferrovax makes sense.

2.  There was an attack on Arctis Tor, and when Harry saw the damage he commented that he couldn't have done that much damage even with Hellfire.  Well a Dragon using hellfire probably could.

3.  We would actually see a fight between a Knight or Knights, and Dragon which sounds like something Jim would want to write.

DF Spoilers / New Blackstaff discussion
« on: June 28, 2017, 04:01:22 AM »
We were having quite the discussion on another topic and I thought it would be better to talk about it in a new one rather than someone else's subject that wasn't about the Blackstaff.

DF Spoilers / King Arthur on DR?
« on: June 20, 2017, 08:13:41 PM »
Alright this has been done a lot, I know.  Who's the British person there?

Now I know we site the language of the person as being more modern than someone from Arthur's time period.  I grant that as something difficult for my theory to stand up against.  However I'm going by two things I have picked up, one from outside the book, one from inside.

In mythology King Arthur was mortally wounded.  He's taken to an island to heal, but he must remain there to heal, and return at a later time....  I'm putting emphasis on "must remain there" to heal..

Now the person on the Island said "I need to be here".

That doesn't sound like someone who was locked up.  Most locked up people don't need to be there from their own stand point.  They want out.  Also it was the Lady of the Lake who placed Arthur there.  I see a lot of parallels between Mab, and the Lady of the lake.  The Lady of the lake provided Arthur with Excalibur, and now it will be returned to DR where this British person also waits...  Seems to me things are lining up for that person, and their role in future books...

So discuss, what do you think?

DF Spoilers / Weapons that can kill Immortals?
« on: June 12, 2017, 06:33:09 AM »
Immortals can be killed on Halloween.  However I'm wondering if they can also be killed by special weapons.  The Swords come to mind, but what got me thinking about this was Morgan Le Fay's athame.  It's supposed to be on par with a Knight's Sword.  I'm wondering if that's why Leah wanted it so badly, to kill Mab and become the new Queen.  Now Mab has it....  It hasn't been talked about in recent books but I think it will come back in play.  The question is how, and why?  Will she use it to kill Mother Winter?

DF Spoilers / Hades question
« on: June 09, 2017, 04:11:27 AM »
Hades had a crown (halo?) of Mordite.  Harry took notice of it and had some ideas of it.  Here is a question I have.  Could the Mordite crown/halo actually be of significance about Hades?  Mordite comes from the Outside.  I was thinking maybe he wears it like a trophy for his fights against the Outsiders, or perhaps it's an actual symbol of status for a position he holds (besides the obvious one).  Think it has a meaning or was Harry's guesses more accurate?

Another thing to consider also is that Hades has something from the Outside.  Mother Winter also does I think with the Black Staff/Walking stick.  I have the opinion that it's connected to the Outside, and that's why it's able to absorb the negative effects of dark magic.  Harry said it looked alive.  I think it's a form of life from there.

DF Spoilers / How Harry would do the Dark Hallow in Changes wag
« on: June 02, 2017, 09:47:02 PM »
Jim mentioned that one of the potential power ups for Harry would be a Dark Hallow.  Well nobody expects him to murder a bunch of people so the question is, how?  Don't know if it's been mentioned but my guess is that Harry would have used his knowledge from the book of Kemmler to turn the Red Courts bloodline curse spell which required I believe thousands of lives into a power source that he'd absorb.  Basically a mini Dark Hallow.  He'd probably slaughter the Red Court royalty with this new power, and as a result the Fomor would begin exterminating the Reds that no longer had powerful leadership, and taking their territory leading to where we are right now.

Anyways just something I was thinking about.  What do you think?

DF Spoilers / Nemesis is different
« on: May 31, 2017, 05:49:29 PM »
Something occurred to me that I found a little odd about Nemesis.  In the Oblivion war the idea is removing all the Names of the Old Ones, removing their connection to reality.  The more modern gods gained power from worship, praise, and generally the population believing in them.  In both cases these Beings gain power from knowledge of their existence.  Nemesis is the exact opposite though.  Harry is told that Nemesis kills anyone with knowledge of it's existence.  Isn't that a little strange?  What is it that causes this difference?

I had a couple ideas:

1.  Nemesis is somehow the opposite, and gains power from lack of knowledge of it's existence.  Can't explain why it would work like this.  Maybe it's latched on to people's belief in the unknown, and their fear of it.  So it's powered by being unknown.

2.  Nemesis is in fact a mortal wizard.  I actually think this is possible.  The Old Ones have been around since like forever, so have the Outsiders.  Nemesis in my opinion (unless there are WoJ, or in book info I don't remember) a mystery.  Do we know how long it's actually been in play?  It might only have been around for fifty years, or a few hundred, or a thousand.  Even if it's longer than a thousand years, a dark wizard can probably find ways to extend their lives similar to Kemmler's practices, or simply by obtaining a Mantle that keeps them alive.  If this is the case then Nemesis can really break the rules effectively, and that's why people like Mab are so terrified by it.  A wizard doesn't have to play by the same rules, and if said wizard has obtained some really dark power they can do some major damage.  If this is the case I'd guess it's a really powerful, Starborn wizard that's gone full dark side.

What do you think?

DF Spoilers / Has anyone put Nic's plan togther?
« on: May 13, 2017, 06:48:43 PM »
Nicodemus wanted the Archive.  He now wants the Artifacts.  Are the two connected or separate?  Could Mavra obtaining the Book of Kemmler be a connection? What theories do you for what Nicodemus is up to?

DF Spoilers / Mab, and Titania in love with another Starborn?
« on: April 12, 2017, 08:14:15 PM »
Mab and Titania haven't spoke in like 1000 years, and it was over a man whom Jim said didn't survive.  We also know that when things got bad in the wizard world both Queen's died resulting in the rise of Mab, and Titania.  I'm wondering if they were in love with a Starborn, possibly even Merlin, and that person brought about the end of the previous Queen's somehow either through action, or inaction.

This could explain Titania's and Mab's feelings towards Harry, a Starborn as they had trusted, and had feelings for the previous one.  Jim described Titania being very nervous of Harry, and Mab keeping her enemies close.

Author Craft / Writing software
« on: March 17, 2015, 05:28:09 AM »
Hey I wanted suggestions for writing software.  The main thing for me I guess would be a good spell check lol.  I look up software that is supposed to be good, and then read mostly negative reviews.

Author Craft / Making it real
« on: March 12, 2015, 07:22:32 PM »
Alright I'm working on creating a story with vampires, werewolves, wizards ect...  I really want to put a lot of great details into the world.  I want the readers to be able to discuss it with their friends, and just really believe in it.  Here is my main problem.  I'm having a hard time coming up with reasons on why the supernatural world exists, yet in real life we don't see it.  Get what I'm saying?  I'm trying to come up with believable reasons on why everyday people don't see it going on around them.

A lot of stories just kind of ignore it or only slightly touch on it.  I want the reader to be able to fall into the story to the point that they think "Wow this stuff is believable, it could actually happen like this and you would never know it"

Not a small task I know.  Any ideas?  Thank you.
