DF Spoilers / Re: Demonreach's spells and Turn Coat
« on: February 28, 2022, 09:20:47 PM »
Perhaps Naagloshii have limited collective memory as a form of Intellectus, and one of the inmates originally saw the runes.

Hmm, that's interesting. However, if that were true wouldn't Shagnasty have known how to counter LTW magic? The Native American shamans had a method of dealing naagloshii so I would assume they have natural weaknesses that LTW took advantage of.

I like the Odin thought. I also wouldn't be surprised if Odin fought the Naagloshii before, even if it wasn't Odin, maybe another one of Merlin's students. At the end of Battle Ground(?), it talks about how the Castle's defenses were very similar to those on Demonreach, so maybe one of Merlin's apprentices went to the Americas, and Shagnasty encountered some of their work sometime.

I kind of doubt that, but if say a platoon of Naagloshii attacked the island, the Warden would bind them.. If the Naggloshii who fought Harry had been in on that fight and escaped, it would remember those runes.

That may be true but why would Shagnasty return to the island that has his people imprisoned? If there was a platoon of Naggloshii that tried to break into Demonreach and Shagnasty was the only one (or one of the few) who returned he would know where the island is and that it posed a real danger to him. I really don't see Shagnasty doing research or knowing in advance that Harry was new to being the Warden, thus not having the knowledge of imprisoning him.

DF Spoilers / Demonreach's spells and Turn Coat
« on: February 17, 2022, 05:16:34 AM »
I am currently re-reading Turn Coat, and I came across a very interesting line when the Naagloshii encountered the spells around the cottage and tower (page 447 of the paperback)
Quote
It fell back from the tower, clearly frustrated, and just as clearly familiar with the symbols that allowed the stones to shed the power of the skinwalker as swiftly and as easily as they shed rainwater.

This appears to say that Shagnasty has seen spells like this before, AKA Merlin's work. So where else could he have seen this work? We know that the Naagloshii are based in the American Southwest, and typically Merlin lore comes out of Europe, so did Merlin do more spell work in America, or did the Naagloshii travel across the pond to Europe sometime. Also, any ideas what else would require this complex level of spell work to be laid down?

In tandem to this you have Crane/Madrigal setting up Splattercon as his own buffet, and opening the backdoor to Arctis Tor, the Convention and attacks would firm up the link to the Fetches abode in the Never Never in Pell’s theatre, allowing the Black Council to use it to ‘rescue’ Lea/ survey the Backdoor to Demonreach in Mab’s Ice Dungeon. We have to presume Mab was aware of an attack by the Black Council, what surprised her was the Denarian involvement.

What Backdoor to Demonreach is in Arctis Tour?

If the sword of love can kill the Hunger/vampire side of the white court, we could potentially see 2 of the 4 courts killed off during the series.

DF Spoilers / Re: Who is Thomas talking to?

The phrase is "Someone who needs to be here." In some ways it is similar to Lea's interaction with Harry in Arctis Tor during Proven Guilty. Another way to read it is to assume the the person is healing. Much like Thomas is expected to do.

Thanks for finding the quote. I like the idea of needing healing. I wonder if being in Contemplation is another way someone could be healed from being infected by Nemesis? Or if the prisoner is infected and cannot leave because if they would, then part of Nemesis would be free to act on the world.

I think Mab's command is directed more at killing Molly and less at killing the Winter Lady. We know from Good People that Molly is more human than Mab would like and that Mab thinks that could limit her potential in the Winter Court. One could kill Molly without killing the Winter Lady. Molly would just become Maeve.

The unnamed prisoner says that "He belongs to be here" (paraphrasing). I wonder if Thomas will adopt this same attitude after talking with him or once he gets off the Island that he will feel that he belongs back in prison.

The crystal is marked as the size of a coffin. The section of the prison is the only one where sleep is available. This suggests that the prisoner is human and human sized.

Just because the crystal is the size of a human coffin doesn't mean that the prisoner is human. There are plenty of monsters in mythology that are human-sized, in the Dresdenverse we have vampires that are human-shaped, and many consider them to be monsters but they are not human.

DF Spoilers / Fairy Godmothers
« on: January 16, 2022, 01:10:20 AM »
We know that Lea is Harry's Fairy Godmother due to a bargain that Margaret struck with her. However, the specifics are unknown to us currently. Harry benefits from Lea's protection garden in the Nevernever, when Lea continued Molly's apprenticeship, and by holding onto Margaret's red gem. Outside of these three areas, I can't think of any time when Lea did something to help Harry without Harry making a bargain of his own. So my questions are 1) What does it take to get a Fairy Godmother and can any Fae become one and 2) Margaret purposefully made a bargain with Lea, what benefits (other than those mentioned above) have or may come from said bargain?

I do not think that Harry is a reincarnation of Merlin, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had some family relation to him. However, just because Thomas and Eb all wear the same pendant necklaces doesn't mean much, in my opinion. I like the comment that Yuillegan made about their being different degrees of life and death. Could some small bit of Merlin's soul be in Harry causing his ID?

Unless I'm missing something nowhere does it state that there needs to be two genders involved to create a baby Spirit of Intellect. So maybe instead of thinking it's Mab/Lea/Odin/Gatekeeper/whoever and someone from the opposite gender maybe it's a same-sex deal? I feel like this twist is enough to keep us guessing about who Bob's parents are while still keeping it mysterious enough.

DF Spoilers / Re: A Mantle for Mister
« on: December 26, 2021, 04:18:45 AM »
I agree with Conspiracy Theorist that Mister does not need a mantle. However, I am not sure if he can be a changeling. A Changeling is created when a mortal and a fae have a child, that child must have the capability to make a choice out of free will to choose either parent and become that "side" fully. However, does a cat possess the cognitive ability to make a choice of this magnitude?

You should find it odd that two potentially immortal beings are tied to the Oblivion War, Thomas and Lara.

How are Thomas and Lara potentially immortal?
