The Outsiders look all jacked up because they probably have to assume some kind of corporeal form just so they can interact with the spiritual/material realms.interestingly they look like Lovecraft outsiders, I think due to the common 'belief' that that's what things outside reality look like. Just like Fearbringer pulled his mask together from disparate things that cause fear. its hidden in how the fetches become something more than a mask, but the thing itself. Imo at one point when Jotenheim was what was considered beyond the known universe, outsiders were ice giants.
We sometimes see characters speculate about what nastiness might be found in the point in Faerie that corresponds to a given point on Earth. For ex, Nicodemus warned Harry that he really wouldn't like what lay on the other side from Demonreach. Usually there is some correspondence, as much symbolic as practice, for ex: the royal hall of the Erlking lines up with a Bass Pro shop, IIRC.its very obvious the Cottage on DR and the mothers are one and the same. When Harry joins MS on the rock, which is in the same spot as the lighthouse, it allows them to travel to the outergates. Evidence the sleepers and the dreamers(outsiders wanting in) are one and the same?
But we don't see much speculation about the inverse. For ex, what on Earth matches up to Arctic Tor?
Where would you find yourself if you opened a Gate from the Mothers' Cottage in Faerie to Earth? (Not that I recommend performing the experiment.)
Hades had a crown (halo?) of Mordite. Harry took notice of it and had some ideas of it. Here is a question I have. Could the Mordite crown/halo actually be of significance about Hades? Mordite comes from the Outside. I was thinking maybe he wears it like a trophy for his fights against the Outsiders, or perhaps it's an actual symbol of status for a position he holds (besides the obvious one). Think it has a meaning or was Harry's guesses more accurate?'Outsiders' have always had purpose inside. If MS and MW are representative of the position of creator and destroyer, then as soon as the balance was originally struck is when an 'inside' came to be. all entities of death and destruction are inherently more towards the outside(an before properly defined, why demons were originally outsiders in book 1-2) . This jives with what we know of Odin and others not only maintaining balance but intentionally putting themselves in the positive with 'rent'. I theorize all outergate guards are actually ones with negative leanings. gives them power over outsiders by being connected to them
Another thing to consider also is that Hades has something from the Outside. Mother Winter also does I think with the Black Staff/Walking stick. I have the opinion that it's connected to the Outside, and that's why it's able to absorb the negative effects of dark magic. Harry said it looked alive. I think it's a form of life from there.
