Thanks y'all for the kind words.

Re: Seasons
Aye we try to at least conclude one major story arc every 13 sessions or so (just an arbitrary number we picked loosely derived from TV seasons). It's really helped make it feel like we're got progress and whatnot. Plus since I allow my NPCs to gain Minor Milestones and whatnot and I allow the players the freedom to manipulate the NPCs and Locations even after initial campaign creation - they all take ownership and help keep things fresh.

In other news, thanks to HumAnnoyd (also on this forum IIRC... who has MAD graphics skills that leave me in awe) we just finished a collaborative "art upgrade" for Season Two.

DFRPG / Dresden Files: Dallas (Obsidian Portal) - 1 Year+

Howdy!

http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaigns/dfd

Well, it's been a year and we're still going strong. We just began our "Season 2." If y'all haven't been by in a while to our version of Big D in the Dresdenverse - you should.  ;)

Highlight Reel
~ Obsidian Portal December 2011 Campaign of the Month & Campaign of the Year Runner Up for 2011
~ A total visual redesign of the site, taking advantage of some new tools provided by Obsidian Portal.
~ An active Adventure Log (Player Blog) with over 100 posts (not only "summaries" from the GM but all the player characters as well)
~~~ These basically are a collection of short stories in the Dresdenverse. Word count is up over 130,000 words now (a novel and a half!).
~ A Character List that's pushing 100 entries (both PC and NPC). Tons of example Aspects, a few custom Powers, backgrounds, and lots of pictures for your browsing enjoyment. Need a character idea for your game; NPC or PC? Stop on by and borrow one. We don't mind.
Never Resting on Laurels
~ After our huge redesign, the Wiki itself is still a work in progress, so pardon the mess over there.
TL/DR : If you like Dresden Files "fan fiction" derived from a long running tabletop campaign, come on by. We've lots to see.
As always, comments & suggestions are welcome.
Is mise le meas,
~Matt (Wolfhound)
You need a transliteration site for the alphabet you're using.
Cyrillic I use http://translit.cc/
DFRPG / Re: Outside Sources of Power for Evocation
« on: May 03, 2012, 10:17:58 PM »
In our game I handle it with a scene Declaration; either
a)  "Strongly Felt Emotion" - Harry and his Rage
b) "Place of Power" - Genus Loci, on top of a Ley Line, the Fae stone tablet, whatever
c) "In the Whirl and Rush" - the category in which I include storms or large mobs of people, etc.
As with any other Declaration, the used Skill needs to make sense (Lore for a Place of Power, maybe Conviction for "Strongly Felt Emotion," Empathy for "In the Whirl and Rush" from a crowd of people... whatever).
If it's a good one, I allow them to either Tag the Aspect like with any other Declaration (+2) or
a) gain a single "free" point of Stress for Evocation (i.e. only pay additional Stress from their own boxes)
b) gain a single Exchange worth of power shifts for Thaumaturgy
It's worked pretty well for us so far.
It’s been a while, but since our Midseason Finale (Outlaw) we’ve had every single player turn in a postgame. Interestingly, every single one of them takes place in the minutes shortly after the events of the game itself so they somewhat interlock.
Dresden Files Dallas: Midseason Finale – Episode #13 – Outlaw
http://www.obsidianportal.com/campaign/dfd/wikis/episodes
I even wrote a postgame from the point of view of one of our more prominent NPCs just for the fun of it. Each is written by a different person (well except for Conor and the NPC) so they’re at times wildly different in tone and style. Quite an interesting dynamic I think.
I like the layout.  I may be totally clueless, but did you guys make up the character sheets and layout yourself, or is there a template somewhere?
It looks sharp.  Nice touch with the opening credits.  Our campaign is based in Hawaii, so I was thinking of using the Hawaii 5-0 soundtrack for our music to open our sessions - but got voted down.
Yes, I did it myself. As HumAnnoyed mentioned I wrote some basic basic tutorials (intro to CSS with an Obsidian Portal focus) and you can find them on my Wiki page there at the site.
Also you can find some generic templates that I created for my player's use, feel free to use/modify whatever you find there that might be useful.
ps - I think an intro movie to the Hawaii 5-0 theme song would ROCK... but then again, I grew up watching McGarrett (the original one)
For fear of being accused of thread necromancy, I didn't see a need to re-create this. However, I just wanted to briefly update:
We've gotten a 100 followers this week for our campaign. Plus, recently many of my players have been adding/updating our "Blog" with a flurry of postgame webisode* updates.
*basically "short stories" featuring their characters in our little chunk of the Dresdenverse.
If you like reading DFRPG based fanfic ... er ... well it's not really intended to be fan-fiction but I guess it works out that way ... please stop on by, comment/leave feedback/favorite the campaign. We're happy to hear from you.
We went with a different vibe in our game (this is not an attempt to judge or comment other than provide additional information if it might be of use) and our current story arc features them
Well first you have to decide which myths you're going with.
Assuming you run with the Fae idea, like the Erlking she could easily just be a powerful Wyldfae of the "Court of Avalon"
-1 Demesne (her realm beneath the lake, a gateway to the Nevernever)
-4 Avalon Magic (variant of Seelie/Unseelie Magic: essential nature: water/mist, healing, protection, veils, imbuing arms & armor)
-2 Glamours (or the -4 version if you think representing Excalibur et al as a "True Seemings" would be better*)
-1 Aquatic (should be obvious as to why)
-1 The Sight + Soulgaze (she had the ability to look into men/knight's souls in one way or another and judge them worthy or not)
-? Various Physical Augmentations as per your taste as a GM (Speed, Strength, Toughness) with iron as The Catch as per usual
* From a GM/Plot point of view having any kind of magic item granted to the Party for plot purposes as a True Seeming may be better, because then at the end of the story arc, it simply dissolves back into ectoplasm and it's out of play.
Thank you for the link.
Here's one of the pages on our Dallas dresden game that links to many, many other cities on Obsidian Portal.
Well... the community over at Obsidian Portal saw fit to give our humble Dresden Files game the nod as Campaign of the Month for December.
I figured some of the folks here might be interested. Hopefully it's at least entertaining.  :D
