Give the One-Shots a serious look, you may be pleased. I was able to incorporate Neutral Grounds and Evil Acts into our campaign on Obsidian Portal, we hit 2 years this month.

DFRPG / Re: Glamour like evocation?
« on: August 07, 2013, 03:35:55 PM »
I have a tremendous number of Fae in our Campaign so a thread like this is of particular interest to me. Out of curiosity, a GM-to-GM (or players who care about systems) "what's your thought process" question

What do you feel mechanically (crunch, not fluff) the 2 Points worth of Refresh invested Glamours allows vs say Channeling Photomancy which is the same cost (and comes with bonus granting Focus Items)?

For example: The ability to perform Sense based "Blocks" and "Maneuvers" without a Stress cost, but cannot perform "Counterspell" or "Attack"

Do others use the Evocation modifiers for Veils for Glamour based Veils as well? (2 shifts for a zone, 2 shifts to make it see through, etc.) or something else (The Glamour is just declared to be "there" and if somebody might conceptually have a chance to see through it roll Deceit/Discipline opposed test - i.e. something derived from the text in the Glamours and Greater Glamours power description)

Arctis Tor = Arctic Hill (ish)

So decide what geographic feature you want the capital to be located within and go from there.

If with a "vale" (valley) or "dale" etc.

Then decide your descriptor in Latin or Greek Summer "Kalokeri" or Latin "Aestas" or Green (prasinus/a/um or greek Prasinos)

So "Kalos Vale" or whatever you like.

shifts the ward is worth, including triggers and duration.

Just for another PoV, in our game the shifts spent on duration, triggers, and any special conditions (wardflames, people that can pass freely, etc.) are not included in the difficulty to bring down a Ward by whatever method - just the final Strength.

(By not quite perfect analogy) bringing down the castle wall is a matter of the strength of the wall's stonework... arrow loops, battlements, murder holes, interior rooms and their contents, or light fixtures don't matter to the siege engine's payload as it comes crashing in.

Now, we could have easily gone with the other way (higher target number). We just chose the smaller number value to keep it more interesting. It allows NPCs that aren't on the 13-14+ refresh level to actually still be a threat and the Wards to be treated as just a single step of a layered magical security system, not the "be all, end all."

And to the OP's original question

Could you counter-spell them?

In our game we allow this, and taggable Aspects include assistance from other spellcasters doing applicable and generally Lore-based "magic-y" things that sound like they might boost the Counterspell (up to and including doing a weaker "counterspell" that counts as a Maneuver to hand it off to the main spellslinger making the roll).

Thanks all, I was fairly sure our group was playing it the way it was intended, but I had a doubt. ;)

DFRPG / Consequences per Exchange

So... I've seen other versions of FATE that make a limitation that you can only take a single Consequence in a single Exchange. (Age of Arthur comes immediately to mind, but I seem to recall seeing others).

If this is specified in Dresden I may have missed it... is there such a limitation? Also, if there's not, how does your table handle it?

To the point that I am no longer compatible with some of the rules of the older games. In one game I'm in, I just do my thing and the GM figures out how I'm supposed to roll. Next step: introduce them to Fate.

This. It actually bothers me now that I can't introduce Aspects when they would add to a scene in some other system.

DFRPG / Re: Does "Calm Blue Ocean" work on Hunger rolls?
« on: July 05, 2013, 06:01:49 PM »
... In a game where there are vampires that can cause you to experience emotion in order to attack you, to manipulate you, to block you... Calm Blue Ocean is awesome.

Indeed. Our players and in our game we have found Calm Blue Ocean to be one of the better Stunts. "Bang for the buck" - but we do have lots of emotion affecting NPCs/Antagonists running around (more than just White Court).

Up to your GM/Table really.

Did the player take the Stunt with the understanding that it would? Does the GM feel it's a bit too powerful if it does?

Personally, I wouldn't allow Calm Blue Ocean to affect Hunger as a GM. However, I would certainly be fine with a custom Stunt - based on Calm Blue Ocean - to be taken that only affects Hunger. I just wouldn't let the one stunt do double-duty. But I am a less permissive GM in that sense, other GMs would be totally fine with it. The support for that would be page 190 "Highly stressful or emotional situations can still trigger your need to feed" (main book). Suggesting Hunger is emotional.

Just an aside, it's always helpful to see other GMs asking and dealing with questions/issues that I myself have with/because of my players from time to time.  ;D

... attach the Sponsorship to a power (or set of powers) unless you mean to indicate that you'd only allow taking Debt on rolls associated with that power (/those powers)...

Yes indeed
