Hello everyone!
Long time no see, and it's all my fault. How are you? I missed you guys a lot.
Regen, you and your family ok? What about you Dina? Is your Hubby alright?
Personally, I'm "enjoying" the sweltering heat, trying to keep my cat from stealing my dinner, and raising a little puppy!

Hey, sorry for the late answer. We had a few rough days when my mom's elderly neighbour had an apoplexy, her husband needed someone to take care of things (they don't have children) and a week later, my mom had issues with her heart and needed to stay in a hospital (not mine) for a few days. But all is settled now.

@Dina: somehow your comment about it being cold in Buenos Aires made me think about that first episode of Eternauta, and when they were walking around all the people in Summer clothing lying dead in the snow. A bit macabre but this is what stayed in my memory for it's absurdity. -17 is indeed very cold, but I think normal for being so far south, is it?

@Fcrate:
Heyyyy! How are you? It's been a long time. A little puppy, aaaaw.
It has been very hot here until today, but I did surprisingly well, maybe because the temperature rose gradually and not in a jump as usual  And I know you will laugh at 34 °C, but for us it was a terrible and unusual heat wave, lol.
The emergency room was full of people with headaches and feeling drowsy. Even the cats walked more slowly with their mouths hanging open.
We enjoyed the cold water of the river a lot.
Yesterday it finally started to rain and the temperature dropped to 25.

@Dina: about the beetles. I had most of them before I ever read the Dresden Files. And I am still happy whenever I see a real one in the streets. The old ones have become rare, mostly one can see newer models, but I think they aren't as cute as the older ones.

Hello Weird!

Fcrate! Glad to see you here! I am doing well, a little under the weather but nothing too bad. And the temperature has raised a lot. For example, we have 14 C now. It is also more or less sunny.
Hubby is doing, well, as well as he does. He also has a cold, with heavier coughing, but he is getting better, it was a bad weekend.
You have a puppy!  :) Please take care of the little one.

Regen: I am sorry to hear about your mom, is she back home? I hope she is totally recovered by now. And I wish the best for your neighbour.
34 C is hot but quite common in the Buenos Aires summer, so I know how it feels. And I imagine in your area there are not as many AC?
When I had cats, in the worst days of Summer we added one or two ice cubes to their drinking water. It helped them.
Anyways it is good the heatwave is gone for now. As it is the extreme cold here. You were not the only one thinking in the Eternauta, especially because they said there was a very small chance of snowing in the city. Let  :D :Dbe clear. There was never as much snow as in The Eternauta in the city. In July 9, 2007, we had a little snow, most of it melted as soon as it touched the grown. Before thar, around a hundred years previously it had snowed some more. As the city was colder then (less asphalt, less big buildings, more empty areas. And less machines sending heat to the air) the snow remained for more time and the pictures are prettier. Still, nothing like the Eternauta, which was part of the impact of the comic images. If you showed a Buenos Aires landmark covered by snow, you know something really bad happened.

LOL Regen! When you said you had beetles I thought in the biological bugs  :D :D :D Like the Egyptian ones I am sure Fcrate is too tired of  :). It took me a moment to understand what you were saying in your newest post. Now, I still think is great and original that you had car beetles and your kids can play with them. Also great that you had blue beetles before reading Dresden. And I agree, the new models are not as cute as the old ones. I have not seen an old model in ages. They were never super common here to begin with. We had a lots of "fititos" (the Fiat 600 one) which more or less had the niche covered.

fascinating. Then this was even more disturbing.
During the heat wave the cats sometimes liked food directly from the refrigerador. And they were often lying in the cool basement.
Now it has 16-18°C and we are cold, lol. Also it is raining a lot. This is also normal for summer. The sudden drastic change in temperature from one day to another. I think in a week or two the heat will return. And then at the end of August, you'll look outside and suddenly it is autumn.

My mother has cardiac insufficiency and is better now,  but not well. She says she is well, but she still has problems with her blood pressure. It changes a lot from high to low. I hope her GP will be able to get her an earlier appointment with the cardiologist. Her medication needs to be adjusted by a specialist. I think her dose of beta blockers is too high.

Hi Regen! It was hilarious about the beetles.

Well, I am glad your mom is better but yes, she needs to have her meds doses fixed by an specialist, so I hope she can do it soon. Meanwhile, I imagine a healthy diet and some relax should help.

Today is our Independence Day. It is not cold at all, I think we have 17°C too! And it is also sunny so it feels great. I am having a pastry that is quite traditional this day. "Pastelitos". I am not sure how to describe it, so here is a picture. https://tn.com.ar/resizer/v2/pastelitos-de-membrillo-y-de-batata-un-clasico-criollo-foto-instagram-manhattanpanaderia-VWUSOFYR75E7TIB6HLLNARL64Y.jpg?auth=a703cc46be87649c6416a4201678ac2fc797f1ff90d20c7e64d4aacd563031de&width=1440There are fried things, filled with something sweet, generally quince or sweet potato (sometimes other options). There is a mock battle in Argentina between team quince and team sweet potato. I am definitely team quince (which does not mean sweet potato ones are not yummy too, only I prefer the quince version). That said, I am not such a fan of pastelitos either, I like one occasionally but that is all. But the other traditional sweet thing for July 9 are churros with hot chocolate. We passed on the chocolate today, but we bought some churros, and that is something I definitely enjoy, especially the dulce de leche filled variety. Take that, Spaniards  ;D
