I had this WAG at some point that the Swords could actually "swallow" the power of a mantel (possibly part of the reason why they are so powerful -- they "ate" a bunch of powerful beings). I don't remember any of the evidence for this, but it couldn't have been more than tenuous or I would remember more.

But Aftermath was quite well written from a female PoV (IMHO). I don't remember Thomas descriptions in Backup, but I suspect he is not as...teen ager as Harry is.

I have never been sure about Murphy's internal dialogue in Aftermath. I always thought she came off as a little petty.

Not to mention that I've never called anyone a "bitch" in my life out loud or mentally. But maybe I'm just too sensitive that way.

In Cold Days, Bob states that the original Merlin's magic is "the internal combustion engine" to Harry's "stone axes". Given the Archive's abilities, is the Archive able to understand (and use?) Merlin-level magic?

I would ask the following:
We've seen that even mundane objects like the fake Shroud can contain vast amounts of power if they are the focus of enough belief. How much power does something like the Statue of Liberty (i.e. as a symbol of hope to thousands) have?
Morgana Le Fay obviously existed at some point (it's her Athame), and the "Le fay" moniker implies she was well-versed in the Nevernever travel. The original Merlin is reported to be around somewhere. Is Morgana still around? Does she know "Merlin-level" magic?
In Small Favor, the Archive is hiding under a veil right under the nose of half a dozen Denarians, yet she wasn't worried that one of them would use the Sight to find her. Is it that she knew that Tessa and her minions didn't have enough magical power to open up a Third Eye, or was it some "Veil 2.0" spell that is impenetrable to the Sight?

So here's my take:
We have two datapoints:
1) In Turn Coat, Harry makes a certain connection between Rashid's mention of a grudge and the limp that Demonreach appears to have.
2) WoJ that the limp was caused by a glacier and Rashid "focused the tank" (which I personally take to mean that Rashid and DR were on the same side).

First thing is, how could a glacier affect Demonreach?
a) Either Demonreach was created before the glacier appeared -- kinda hard since the last time the glaciers retreated was ~20,000 years ago. Granted the original Merlin did some timey-wimey stuff during creation, but still, Merlin himself was around ~1500 years ago, so why build Demonreach already wounded?
b) The second (and more likely IMHO) is that Demonreach got wounded with a glacier *after* it was created. How did this happen? Again, timey-wimey stuff. We've seen in Cold Days that the way to attack Demonreach is through some time-related magic. Obviously there was a previous assault. Consider the following notion: The bad guys cast a spell to divert a glacier 20,000 years ago so that it will overrun the foundations of Demonreach, retroactively weakening/destroying him.
For bonus points, take a look at the Amber Chronicles (either book 9 or 10) where someone tries to attack Corwin's Pattern in a similar manner. Jim's extensive connection with the Amberverse might be a clue here.

This ultimately worked (Demonreach is still standing), but Demonreach did get partially injured, which is why it still holds a grudge.
Final note is that Rashid might have well known that he was doing thing inefficiently, but had different priorities. As an example, if innocent lives were at stake, Rashid might have preferred to prioritize saving them, knowing that Demonreach can take a beating.

One thing about the Amber series that struck me is that Corwin at least seems to be a deliberately misleading narrator, essentially hiding some thing from the audience (i.e. Merlin).
As an example, one of the thing I missed on my first read through is that Corwin is actually capable of casting minor spells. Notice how a bunch of people get "hotfoot" (e.g. the horned thing in "Guns of Amber" and the Crow in "courts of Chaos") during the story? It's Corwin casting a spell that causes a burning sensation in the guy's foot. It's a minor point to be sure, but a subtle hint that Corwin is not revealing everything he knows.

See, that's exactly where the movie failed.
If the Contingency exists in the movie canon, then have some admiral mention doing a resupply run instead of wasting our time essentially preaching the evils of war profiteering. Unless the purpose of the scene is some kind of lame red herring (lame because of the aforementioned holes in the logic), this is just extra bloat in an already over-long movie.
Same thing with Hux. If Hux is given loyalty because of who his father was, let someone mention it **onscreen**. A simple mutter "if it wasn't for the Emperor's faith in your father..." would tighten things up much so better than an extra 15 seconds of infinite mirrors.

All in all I felt this was a disappointing movie. I think the actors did really good jobs with the lines they were given, but the plot was abysmal, full of holes and way too long.
