DF Spoilers / Re: How big was the Boarding House?
« on: July 25, 2018, 07:15:51 AM »
A basement isn't necessarily the entire footprint of a building.
Harry's apartment probably wasn't the whole basement, just a portion that was turned into an apartment is another possibility.

DF Spoilers / Re: Is it possible to kill a WC Hunger Demon?

The hunger demon can likely be destroyed or banished from the host. The problem is doing it without killing the host or leaving a vegetable shell.

Recall the WOJ that a lot of wizards are sitting on offers of power like Harry's been offered, and are just sitting on them for a rainy day.

Yes, Morgan would destroy Bob -- but that has as much to do with him being a fanatic as it is with being a Warden.

I'm not saying Justin was a pure and righteous soul -- we all know he went bad. I'm just saying, we don't know that he actually cast any black magic while he was in the company of the wardens.

Or hell, maybe he killed a bunch of Kemmler's apprentices in "self defense" with black magic during the battle, and that nudged him just enough to decide to take Bob.

Perhaps one of Kemmler's minions did a bodyswap with him like they did with Luccio, except Justin died and the Necromancer got a new body and identity.

I think most powerful beings/factions have limitations put on them in the story. I think that it is not random about Wizards messing up tech. I think someone powerful or a powerful faction put this limitation on wizards. Such as the Fae can't lie or their bane is iron. I think a possible explanation is wizards change reality. If reality is becoming less fixed and more fluid, some things can be less reliable and more things can go wrong especially things that are sensitive. Some things explained by Harry in the DF may be because Harry is young and inexperienced and not 100% correct. I was in the Army and shot many weapons. I've had weapons jam on occasion. Some were more reliable than others. I had an M-16 that jammed frequently and I asked the Armorer to change with another one that never seemed to jam (it was a really old one from the Vietnam era vs the unreliable fairly new one). I've had M-60s jam rarely and I've never had an M-2 jam on me. I've also had dud rounds or rounds that even partially exploded and left a bullet in the barrel. That can cause the weapon to explode if you shoot another round without clearing the bullet out of the barrel.

DF Spoilers / Re: Dog Men Release Q&A Suggestions
« on: March 29, 2018, 09:29:12 AM »
Hi all,

I've been lurking around for several years and never have had the chance to attend one of Jim's events. But next week I will be attending the Dog Men Release Q&A/ Signing and I wanted to open the floor up for suggestions. Both my wife and my brother will be joining me so if we are lucky we should be able to ask at least 3. So far I have the following:

What does Harry believe the distinction is, if any, between the Black Council and Nemesis factions? To what extent is he correct?

What did Mouse mean in Changes when he says that he won Harry?
I believe WOJ is that Lea and Mouse intended different meanings of the word won, but I am hoping for some clarification.

If Thomas took up Amoracchius to become a KotC, as a career rather than a one night stand, what would happen to his Demon?
I know Thomas is uncomfortable with all things Holy to begin with but this might shed some light on a pet theory of mine.

Who was Goodman Gray paying rent to in Skin Game?
A little too direct maybe, but one can hope.

Eager to hear your thoughts and/or suggestions folks.

My speculation is the Mouse won Harry when Mouse competed with his litter siblings for getting to have Harry as his master. Remember the other puppies were in the box and Mouse was hidden out of the box with a notched ear (probably from fighting his siblings for Harry). It was no coincidence that Mouse came to Harry.

My guess is. Goodman Grey was paying rent (doing jobs and favors) to be able to stay on the mortal realm with support probably from Vadderung and or other powers, without problems like the other Naagloshi who are not supposed to be here anymore.

It may be that the WC vamps get harmed when they are feeding or attempting feed off of the protected human who is in true love. True Love seems to be rare.

DF Spoilers / Re: Marcone Manipulating Harry.
« on: November 19, 2017, 05:11:03 AM »
Marcone did not ask Harry to save the person, so no real favor exists.   Harry could see that Marcone was using Harry to save his person.  Harry choose to do so -- but arguably he would have done so anyway even if the person had no ties to Marcone.  The method might have been different, but the outcome probably the same.

Harry saved Marcone from the Denarians without be asked by Marcone. Marcone acknowledged the debt. Marcone manipulated Harry getting chosen for Jury Duty knowing Harry would ack. Harry would not have been on the Jury if Marcone did not get him on the Jury. It is a debt Marcone owes Harry. How big a debt it is, remains to be seen. Marcone is usually honorable about such things. That's how I see things.

Marcone got Harry to help an innocent ex employee get off and smack down a white court vamp and protect a little kid in Jury Duty short story by getting Harry on the Jury. Harry should remember to call in that favor marker when needed from Marcone.

I don't know, but a couple of guesses would be a member of the Red Court or possibly the Formor. I remember a short story with Harry and Murphy getting spell whammied by a Red Court Vamp on a Tunnel of Love Ride to make them fall in love and get horny for each other. The Formor helped the Red Court with the poison gas attack in Africa and used the same type of device at the Svartalf party.

DF Spoilers / Re: A Fistful of Warlocks (SPOILERS: FISTFUL OF WARLOCKS)

Was anyone else underwhelmed by Kemmler?  Did not seem very impressive, or formidable in the least.  Didn't set him apart from a run of the mill warlock.
Kemmler was younger and less powerful, decades later he was much more more dangerous. Look how more powerful Harry had become in a bit over a decade.

I think for some, it depends on how strong the threshhold is.

DF Spoilers / Re: Was Justin preparing Harry to learn necromancy?
« on: September 16, 2017, 06:45:49 AM »
Harry seems to have a talent for Necromancy. Has done some other amazing things with little practice such as Harry is a really good summoner. He seems to be able to call up very powerful beings demons, Mab, The Erlking, Uriel and others really reliably and easily. Harry most likely got some training about necromancy from someone. It was probably Justin, Eb, or the Leasidhe or a combination of all. I do think it there is a good possibility that Justin had a bodyswap done with him. It may have been Kemmler escaping death and getting a new body with different skills. Like what happened to Warden Luccio. Justin may have used necromancy, Eb being the Blackstaff may have used necromancy and Lea being his Fairy Godmother probably knows a lot about most things.

DF Spoilers / Re: Murphy in Peace Talks (WoJ spoilers)

How do you feel about Murph from Ghost Story onward, with her working in Marcone’s organization, allying with the White Court, and trying to fight the darkness in a far more desperate situation than she’s ever been in before?  Most of what you mention is pre-Ghost Story Murphy.  Do you feel that she’s really the same person?

True, I don’t see her flat-out betraying and trying to kill Harry.  But I can see her suddenly motivated to completely turn against his wishes and sabotage a mission all in a vain attempt to keep him safe.  Oh, wait – that’s already happened.

Nobody just suddenly starts dressing in black and cackling maniacally.  The road to hell is a gentle, gradual slope, and I think that Karrin’s story has always been one of slow self-destruction.  It’s started long before Changes, but everything afterward really kicked things into high gear.  Dresden’s fear of what would happen to her if her shield was taken away seems to be happening.  What’s book 20 going to look like?

EDIT:  Let me just say that I hope you’re right.  I really do want Murph to be Dresden’s strong, stalwart companion; the one who’s by his side through thick and thin, the vanilla mortal with the guts and smarts to take on anything that comes to her.  But I guess I’m getting cynical, and I just doubt it could last.

Murphy worked with Marcone, not for him. Just as the US and the British worked with Stalin against Hitler. Sometimes you can't choose your allies.

I don't remember anything about librarians, and I thought I've seen all of Jim's Q&As and read all his short stories, aside from the Butters and the Wild West ones. I haven't read the stories in the DFRPG and hadn't read any of the graphic novels other than the first, so maybe that's where the reference is?

I've only seen the Librarians reference a few times. WOJ is basically they are part of the US Govt that is aware of and deals with the supernatural. Little else I have read.

DF Spoilers / Re: A question about Warden Swords
« on: July 30, 2017, 07:10:38 AM »
Some speculation, either the swords are tied to the wielder and they keep them charged by the wielder's magic/life force (a slow tiny feed) or the magic of the sword must every so many years needs to be recharged either by Luccio or the wielder. Remember, Harry had to recharge the protective spells on his coat rarely, only a couple times a year (as I remember). Luccio has more experience than Harry at enchanting.
