Hmm I was considering an artist character who has The Sight and/or Soul Gaze as a minor talent and paints what he sees. I would then develop into focused practitioner or even wizard that uses his art skill as part of his Thaumaturgy. possibly using a stunt to replace Lore with the relevant art skill. Any ideas on how or if this would work and what skill to use.

Ok I need some help here people. I am looking for a good high concept name for a thief from a lower class background that enjoys the finer things in life and pretends to be from a much higher social class. I feel like there is a word for pretending to be from a higher social class but i can't think of what it is.

I would argue that if one were not a natural spell caster and used only sponsored magic that you would not be in violation of the Laws and the player can feel free to attempt to explain this to Captain Morgan or Lucio but making a coherent argument is hard to do if your head is 3ft from the rest of you. Using supernatural powers other than spell casting, Vampire mental controls for example, is not a perversion of ones soul since it is part of who you are already. As a vampire you have already crossed the soul perversion line long ago. Sponsored magic is a different matter.  As a GM I would rename the stunt from Lawbreaker to Soul corruption weather or not you "Broke the Law" is a matter for the Wardens or a WC trial whether or not you corrupted your soul is not open for debate because you have acted against the part of your nature that separates you from the monsters.

The Laws only apply to the use of Human magic. To quote the text "whenever you make use of true black magic—using your talent in spellcraft in a way that breaks one of the Laws—you change yourself, darkening your soul." "Laws aren’t a legal entity at all; they’re a set of magical principles that, when broken, lead to a fundamental change in the nature of the person who broke them." YS232  Supernatural power are already part of the nature of who you are and so do not lead to the same consequences.

I am working on a character idea for a White Court Virgin born away from court then raised by a wizard and used to infiltrate the WCV.
However to be realistic I don't think the WC would give membership to anyone "Tainted" by non human blood. they do not strike me as a tolerant organization especially under the current Merlin.  How ever not being a member does not exempt you from the Laws and as we saw with molly its all about getting caught not about scale or intentions. those protected by powerful connections would have the benefit of politics on their side as long as their protector chose to provide it. Like the children of real world diplomats they would more than likely be spared. On the other hand I doubt very much if Mab cares about individual changelings unless they have a use to her or an important ally.

On a game play note I do have to say that I am disappointed by the speed with which everyone is looking for ways to avoid the Laws instead of finding creative ways to work within them. They are part of the color and flavor of the world if you find away to be immune to them you are taking a big chunk of the challenge out of the game. Why not just go play d20 modern? Why does everyone have to be a freaking rebel? A big part of Harry's character is based on his belief that the laws are important, if somewhat over enforced. He works within the gray area but always upholds the spirit of the law as well as the technical letter of the law. Playing that way is much more challenging and creates more interest for the plot and therefore more fun. Some times it feels like people are cheating at solitaire here.

When Harry
(click to show/hide)
Lucio tells him that his duties are the same as what he has been doing all along just in a Grey cloak. The point of the 7 laws is to protect humanity from magic. Vamps who feed on humans open themselves up to retribution from the mortal community. The wolf feeds on the deer but can't sue if a buck kicks him in the head. The war started because Harry violated the terms of the Accords by breaking the rules of hospitality in Bianca's home.

To Quote the WC Wikipedia entry
"They primarily protect humanity from abuses of magic, but also shield this world from the Sidhe and other creatures that wish humanity harm."

So any changeling causing widespread harm to humans in general or attacks on WC members would be classified as a monstrous threat and/or a declaration of war by the Sidhe court responsible for them.

According to Meryl in SK changelings are under the control of the Court of their fey parent until they choose to become pure mortals. This would mean that if tried by the WC and proved to be a changeling they should have the backing of the appropriate court and might therefore be ruled not under WC jurisdiction however this could also label them as non-human putting them outside its protection as well making them fair game to be killed by any means if they are a threat to the human population. Being a Changeling should not provide license to get around the 7 laws if it endangers the humans that the WC protects anything else would be an internal matter of the fey subject to the appropriate court. Also if the magic is sponsored it is subject to shutdown by the sponsor if the caster breaks any rules set by them.

Love the physics idea. How about a spell that reduced an opponents coefficient of friction to zero there by removing his ability to effect his own inertia. If he was still he is stuck if moving he can't slow down.

With the one on the Yahoo group mentioned above you can type into it as well as save. There a plenty of free applications on the internet that'll let you save data typed into a fillable PDF.

Thanks can anyone recommend one. Also in my research I discovered that you can enable "Right" that will allow us to save the forms if the author or someone with Acrobat Pro could do this and re-post I would be grateful

Ask Carlos Ramirez. He is one.

Personally I haven't entirely figured this one out myself, but consider: Harry's a fire mage, but he still got burned. So I'd bet that water mages spend a lot of time practicing how to work *with* flows of energy and water and suchlike, but that doesn't make them immune to its effects any more than working with fire protected Harry's hand.

So in game terms I invoke my Hydromancer aspect to give a bonus that mitigates the effects of running water, an advantage that the wizard I am facing does not have. Perhaps one could also capture and use the magic as it is drawn away by the water, like sticking a paddle wheel in a river as it flows by.

A hydromancer doesn't necessarily get power from water - he knows how to push water around. Large quantities of it will overwhelm him just like it will any other spellcaster. Analogy: a computer engineer knows how to manipulate electrical energy to achieve amazing effects. That doesn't mean his computer is even better when hooked up to a lightning rod and shoved into a thunderstorm.

This is a good point However if I did want to channel that storm or gain protection from it I would talk to an electrical engineer

this leads me to another question I am working on a Hydromancer. How does one reconcile use of the water element to power ones magic and the natural tendency of water to ground out magical energy. It seems to me that a Hydromancer standing near a water fall should be a dangerous force not fizzled out dud.

Great PDF sheet but I was looking for something that could be saved and edited (content not form) so that it could be an evolving electronic document. I am slowly learning how to put together MS Word templates (characters) and Open Office Base files (City) but it is slow going I would appriciate anyone else out there with more skill whipping something up.

thanks

Will post what I have when I'm done.
