Cinder Spires Books / Re: ???????

Oh, I am thrilled for the release!!

As for steampunk suggestions.....I am not certain it was TRUE steampunk, but Alan Campbells Deepgate Codex Series is one of my favorites. It is like a Steampunk series had a love child with a Terry Gilliam movie and this series was the product.

.....I think I recall that he was actually working on his own Steampunk series, but I have not seen it yet.

Author Craft / Re: finding inspiration through music
« on: April 02, 2013, 05:03:52 PM »
I have tried and tried to write with music. I start with it soft.....make it softer.....turn it down until you can barely hear it.....then turn it off. Lol. Takes about 20 minutes.

BUT! I have found that certain CD's in the shower get my mojo flowing!......maybe I should re-phrase? Lmao. Radiohead Kid A in the shower seems to set my imagination off and the story ideas flow like water. Just the ideas. Nothing else. This is a PG post. lol. I am not sure why that one CD is so effective, but I find it works for me.....I need to get a new copy.....been a while since I wrote anything......

Anyone who is NOT kind to service workers should find a shoe full of cold poo when next they don their slippers. :) I say that with love.

Look at Enders Game. Classic sci fi by Orson Scott Card. One of the better stories I have read. Well written and intelligent......and it follows a young man in his.....early teens? (Been a while since I read it) Lol. But it is a VERY adult story. The boy is put under very adult pressures and in the end it told a brilliant tale that went on to span, what, 6 books?

The one with a crush shouts one well timed word (maybe a name or something)  at the sexy vamp hunter as she passes out of sight. It has meaning to her alone and she stops dead in her tracks. How does he know to say that to her? That's irritating; She turns and helps so she can find out what he knows. Adds a little back story you can trickle out as well later on....

Or maybe they get the stuffing knocked out of them by the Vamps, but just as they are about to pass out and the vamps mouth is lowering towards their neck, they see something pass over them in the air and hear a crash.....they wake up in her hide out, the pro having just saved their bacon.....good luck!

Give me a shout out in the afterward if it works for you. Lol.

Author Craft / Re: How to Describe a Setting
« on: March 14, 2011, 09:49:38 PM »
I really believe people over think this one a bit. Put yourself, in general, in your characters eyes. What do they see (or feel, for the mood of the room) when they come in....and what do you want the reader to notice? The character may noctice that thing just in passing to be remembered later. Maybe that's to simplistic, lol.

I find that sometimes, when I am over thinking something or just not getting it down how I want it, I have to start fresh and just let flow as I go along. the finished product might not be what I keep in the end, but it comes a lot closer to what I had started when I was feeling stunted and my mojo was off.

How is it that the dapper Mr Morden is the ONLY person to suggest the Twin Cities, Mn? I mean, it's a straight shot up I-35 for Mr. Butcher, and 2/3 of the flipping state live in the area! Visit one city and take care of a whole region? No brainer! We love you up here, my man!

If you feel like dropping by Prior Lake on your way up the wife and I make a heck of a kung poa chicken from scratch....or dago dots (our own creation) = acini de pepi pasta and cheese stuffed meatballs. For all the hours of endless entertainment you have given us we at least owe you a meal!
