DFRPG / Social Shotgun
« on: January 30, 2012, 03:20:34 PM »
Okay, I ran my first Dresden Game yesterday (not counting City and Character Creation, or the test game which we used Rick Neil's excellent "Night Fears"http://rpg.drivethrustuff.com/product_info.php?products_id=90998&affiliate_id=24139).  Anyway, I've been following the DFRPG for a few years now and have been trying to wrap my brittle mind around the mechanics, but a few situations came up anyway.

The one that I want to bring up is the Social Shotgun or Social Spray attack.

There ended up being a fight between the PCs a 1/2 Ogre thug and 2 Pure Mortal gang-bangers.  Now, one of the PCs, who is very much not a fighter, decided to use his Social Skills to effect the two Pure Mortals.  This is where the problem came up.  He was attempting to affect two different targets.  Now, I could have just said, "No.  One action, one target."  Rules wise, this would have been easiest, no not reality wise as both gang-bangers could hear him.

After thinking about it, I suppose that he could have put a Maneuver, say "Untrustworthy", on the 1/2 Ogre and tagged for effect.

The rules for Social Conflict are pretty much just guidelines.  I'm not complaining, but there isn't a lot in the way of explaining how to adapt normal combat rules to certain social settings.  As such, I'd like to get feedback on how other people would handle something like this.

Please give as much feedback as possible, as I'd like to have as many tools in my GM box as possible.

And, as always, thanks in advance.

DFRPG / Tags and Compels
« on: December 19, 2011, 08:49:10 PM »
I finally, finally, got my hands on The DFRPG and am starting up a game.  As with anything, there's a bit of a learning curve.  I ran Night Fears as a test scenario last night and a few things came up.

The one situation I can't find an answer for either in the books or on the forum is Tagging for a Compel.

Normally, when a player (not the GM) decides to Compel another character (PC or NPC) he can spend a Fate Point, identify the Aspect he's using and outline what he wants to happen for the Compel.  If the character being Compelled doesn't accept, he needs to buy out with a Fate Point of his own.

So, hoe does this work if the character setting up the Compel doesn't use a Fate Point, but Tags instead?  When you Invoke with a Tag, the recipient doesn't get a Fate Point because no Fate Point was spent.  Does that carry over to Compels?

Are Tag Compels useless because the recipient doesn't have to spend a Fate Point to ignore them?

Or does the Compel recipient have to buy his way out with a Fate Point?  This seems like it could be abused, as characters could Assess someone to Fate Point Bankruptcy, then Compel them to do dangerous or suicidal activities.

DFRPG / Stun?

I finally, finally, got my hands on the DFRPG and have been burning through YS and trying to wrap my head around such a radically different system.  There have been a few questions that have popped up, but on that I'm not sure how to answer yet is a stunned character.

If someone gets hard enough to make the pause, like by a Taser, do you count that as a type of Maneuver that needs to be overcome before they can act again?
