DF Spoilers / Re: Q&A Fantasyfestival 2023 in Esbjerg/Denmark
« on: September 17, 2023, 04:31:17 PM »
On the general subject of Q & A, was there anything in the recent podcast of significance? I no longer drive long distances for business, and find that I don't have the patience to just sit and listen to folks talk.

DF Books / THis is only related to the DF

By birth.

Has anyone read "Dead Man's Hand"? What did you think of it?

DF Comic Books / Bigfoot

Has anyone else seen this. Bought it earlier this week. It's a fixup of the 3 working for bigfoot stories and is does a fairly good job of covering them

DF Spoilers / Re: Harry Dresden Suuuuper GENIUS!

The plan in Changes, with Susan, tragic as it is, is very clever.
I've labored under the belief that the plan wasn't Harry's but Martin's, and he arranged for Harry to be the booby trap in the Red King's plan.

DF Spoilers / Re: Two thoughts on the timing of Mab's wedding announcement.
« on: November 08, 2021, 03:18:39 PM »
Here's some thoughts....

What if the low fertility rate amongst Whamps is on one side. The men. They only kick out a few hundred at a time (human normal is in the millions). So  - Thomas is not likely to have many children. Harry, presumably, would produce more.

Lara as Winter Lady, replacing Molly? Mab could be playing the long game.  What about the hypothetical daughter of Harry and Lara? Wizard genes, a strong line, and Whamp blood too? Possible hybrid vigor too - she could be very dangerous.

And, while I think this unlikely - sorry Thomas - what makes us 100% sure the baby is Thomas'? If the shadow of a Fallen Angel can make a spirit of intellect with harry... can Nemesis do anything with a woman? Parthenogenesis?

As the winter lady, Lara would be required to be celebate, whether she wanted to be or not (see Carlos' injuries). How could a whampire survive for the (potentially) hundreds of years between her taking the Winter Lady mantle and her replacing Mab?

DF Spoilers / New Short Story
« on: August 18, 2021, 05:09:37 PM »
I just preordered Heroic Hearts edited by Jim and Kerrie Hughes. It has a short story by Jim called "Little Things" which is about Toot-toot. It's currently scheduled to ship on May 3rd.

DF Spoilers / Time for an Update
« on: May 31, 2021, 06:50:05 PM »
It's been almost 11 months since Peace Talks was released, which means it's been over a year since Jim was actively working on a new book (battle ground was originally part of PT)

I for one would like to know how he's doing on the book after "The Aeronaught's Windlass" and if he's even started on sketching out the next DF book

DF Spoilers / Re: A new threat to Dresden (later) WAG

I think Anastacia Luccio would be the logical candidate. When she was in Tombstone, she mentioned that Eb was head of the wardens at that time. She has the experience, even if her new body isn't ideal for magiking.

DF Spoilers / Re: The Coins and Demonreach

Quick question: Do you believe Dresden could secure the Coins within Demonreach? Why or why not?
If I remember correctly, Niccodemus told Harry that he can summon the coins. The Church can obscure the location to some extent, but that hasn't proved very effective in the long run

DF Spoilers / Re: Murphy's background

Also up in the air, how did Murphy break her arm on her vacation with Kincaid?  Never explained, but rough sex was never ruled out..

I doubt that. Kincaid gave her a P90 as a souvenir of their vacation together. I would think it more likely that either some of his work followed him on vacation, or they stumbled onto something while they were in Hawaii.

I vaguely remember folks talking about this becoming a short story, but I don't remember if that was just a fan idea, or something that Jim threw out as a "maybe someday..."

I don't believe the Librarians will be villains. Antagonists, sure.
I could see them as a mixed bag. I can also see using them as a way to bring back Agent Tilley.

Back story - Once he'd been exposed to the Red Court and the Fellowship of St Giles, the Librarians press-ganged him into their organization.

DF Spoilers / Re: Drakul's game
« on: December 02, 2020, 09:56:00 PM »
Oh that would be hilarious. The biggest let down in the series.

Depends on if Drakul is progenitor to all Vampires or just some.

Given the differences between the behaviors and origin locations of the courts I would think that they are examples of "covergent evolution" i.e. the development of similar traits from different sources. The Black court feeds on blood, but are all (or at least all but one) revenants. The Red court feeds on blood, but are changed while still alive. The White court feeds on emotions. We don't know anything about the Jade court or any of the minor courts. All are parasites, but there are enough differences that they wouldn't be a single evolutionary line

DF Spoilers / Re: Why is Harry so Tall?
« on: October 08, 2020, 09:00:22 PM »
Please remember, genetics isn't necessarily deterministic. There is always an element of chance in any recombination of genes being passed to an offspring.

Many years ago, when I was a high school teacher, I had a student who was "Harry Tall" (6'9" IIRC). His parents were about my height (5'10").

DF Spoilers / Re: White Court Spy And Why Thomas attacked/murdered
« on: September 11, 2020, 08:32:59 PM »
I've been thinking about this. Evanna had the motive and opportunity to put "the whammy" on Thomas.  If I remember correctly she is Etri's sister. We know almost nothing about Svartelf politics or line of sucession.  If  she would be in line to become queen on Etri's death, she would have a very powerful reason to manipulate Thomas into an assassination attempt. It was widely known that Thomas was her lover, and the time alone would be sufficient for her to create a deep seated compulsion to kill Etri. That he failed and killed another was simply bad luck.

I would not be surprised if Maggie was the one doing the fire

Given that the Svartelves are magically powerful and they know Harry's reputation and Maggie's heritage, I don't think it would be a magical accident by Maggie that caused the fire.

In Zoo day Harry could feel the magic build up in [Kid's name] before he opened a way for creatures from the Never Never to enter. I would imagine that Etri's crew would be on the lookout for something like that from Maggie.
