Cinder Spires Spoilers / Re: Shrouds and mass

And one of the drawbacks he pointed out was that gunpowder corrodes the barrel, making catastrophic failure more and more likely the more times you use it. He had to replace the barrel of his gun multiple times just while learning how to use it. A cannon is basically all barrel, so you'd only get a few uses out of it before you had to replace it, or risk it exploding and killing your crew members. It's very likely just not worth the expense and risk, when there are techniques to getting past a shroud using much more reliable and long-lasting e-cannons.

I'm thinking that the surface might not be uniformly dangerous all over the entire planet; the jungle around Albion and Aurora certainly is, which is why wood is so rare, but there could be deserts where there isn't much wildlife, where humans could set up quarries or mines to get stone, clay, and metal with relative ease.

DF Books / Re: Did you discover the books because of the TV Show?
« on: April 07, 2007, 04:10:52 PM »
I heard about the show first, but I read the books first, if that makes sense. What happened was, I saw previews for the show, and I mentioned to my friend Maxine that it looked interesting. Turns out she was a huge fan of the Dresden Files already, so she insisted that I read the books as well as watch the show. Turns out I didn't like the show all that much, but I immediately fell in love with the books. I'm currently trying to get ahold of White Night.
