My sister and I will be the creepy longhaired nervous wrecks hiding in the corner too nervous for signage.

Coincidentally we ended up being the giggling longhaired freaks sitting against the red wall.

Turnout wasnt too bad. Throughly enjoyed it.

DF TV Series / Re: POLL: End Game Opinion of the Series

The show had a weak, weak start, but a few episodes in---
It was brain candy. XD
Not on the level of Doctor Who or Firefly brain candy, but brain candy nonetheless.
Everyone grew on me and I WISH I could have seen what else they'd pull out for a second season. D:

I'm totally buying it---when I'm no longer a broke panda.

Everybody dies in increasingly horrible ways, and at the end the protagonist is alone.

I feel like adding that I put a different character of mine in and he got a 43.
Here is where I voice my dissent.

Compared to the character I put in first, Sunde is a million times more unique, an actual person instead of a lifeless shell who likes to rape and eat people [my other character]. Just because he's sexy and happens to be a genius doesn't make him a bad character.
Does the question ask about his inability to control his impulses? His creepy, unsettling grin he gets everytime sex is mentioned? His addiction to any sort of harmful subject just for the sake of it? His irrational fear of women and any sort of commitment in his relationships? His bouts of fiery anger that leave him unable to control his actions?

The problem with the templates for Mary Sues is that rules, despite their usefullness, are generally obsolete. It is, as others have said, all about the authors.
But then again, I do not see even the most talented of writers making a perfect character who appears out of no where, saves the world and seduces the main character likable or believable.

'round 2,000. I had to cut it really short, as it's a class project, but I love the damned thing so much (as do most of the people who read it) that I want to expand the details and double or triple the size.

I have to start somewhere, and I hope I can do something with this peice that will help me expand as a writer.

Hm. It depends. My sister bought the book Nightlife merely because the guy on the cover was hot.

On the flipside, the drawing of Alec on the cover of Luck in the Shadows looks nothing like how he is described and is ugly, but the good things I heard about the book overshadowed that.

I think the art and the name have to be snazzy or the reader will likely look to the next book, personally, but it all depends. A professionally done cover isn't going to do crap if it doesn't pop.

Crap. I have to figure out which character to use on that silly test.
'cause I have about twenty or so which I use regularly.
Okay. I'll just use my crazy rapist/serial killer character, whom I named after Maeve.

LOL.
21-35 points: Borderline-Sue. Your character is cutting it close, and you may want to work on the details a bit, but you're well on your way to having a lovely original character. Good work.

These questions weren't extensive enough. They didn't get into personalities as they should've.
But just for fun, right?

just a quick note on point #2.

Would you want to bring about the apocalypse with a butter knife...?

...

Thought not.

Sharon.
Well. One of my characters is a synthetically-created human who fights, and wins, against people with gigantic swords.

And he fights with a switchblade. Lawl. <33

...Devil May Cry is awesome.
Big swords are mostly for aesthetic appeal. And why not? Each writer has in their ability to create their own, fantastically messed up little worlds. Why not create a world where it makes perfect sense for a normal human to swing around a huge sword? That's like calling urban fantasy unrealistic because, after all, magic doesn't really exist!!

The above belief can be applied to creepy anthros too. Which, I believe, is an Anime-fan thing on a broad standpoint.

Author Craft / Re: Would you stop?
« on: February 20, 2007, 04:30:11 AM »
I feel that crappy about my writing right now. But will I stop? Naw. It's too much fun. My characters would never forgive me. And maybe, one day, if I had enough money, I could always pay someone to write my stories for me.
Because it my characters that I love. I build stories and worlds around them, making it to best suit and torture my lovelies. And, if I don't cater to their needs, they haunt me. My characters act as my muse, despite how much they love to sit by and let me torture myself while staring and lamenting at a blank word document.
But that's just me.

Do they have Magical healers in the Dresdenverse? Harry makes it sound like Healing Magic is next to impossible.

It's pretty damn rare.  The only instance we have of it on the page is healing done by one of the Queens of the Summer Court, and she's operating with a power source that's way off the scale.

Awww, shucks... :-\

We'll, it's back to the ol' D&D cleric then...  ;D Meric the medic cleric.
Whoa. Did he change his name so it would rhyme with cleric, or did he decide to be a cleric because it rhymed with Meric?
OR WAS IT A COINCIDENCE?!! *ja ja ja!*

Author Craft / Re: Character Names
« on: February 19, 2007, 03:57:16 AM »
I usually either find the names randomly or steal them from places. My characters' names are all over the place. xP!

Here's a few and their origins, for comparison.

Simon Murphy - 'Simon' or 'Si' as he likes to be called, is named after Sick Boy from Trainspotting, whose real name is Simon. The Murphy is from me being lazy about finding an Irish last name. It has nothing to do with the Lt.; I've been using that last name since before reading Dresden.

Taichi Schwartz and Yamato Seiburem - These characters' first names are after the two main characters from the first season of Digimon, because that show was AWESOME. 'Schwartz' means 'black' in German, which fits Taichi's insanity. 'Seiburem' was the mangled translation in a bad fansub of Rem's last name from Trigun.

Aleksei Tchaikovsky - 'Aleksei', to me, is just a really really sexy Russian name that fit my character. 'Tchaikovsky', of course, is the dude that wrote the 1812 Overture.

Severin - My favorite demon character, freaky as hell- ...the borderline luminescent, blue-tinged white skin is transparent enough so that all the superficial arteries and veins carrying black demon blood are visible. -was named, simply, after the Velvet Underground song "Venus in Furs"

Sünde Verrat - His name means, literally, 'Sin Betrayal' in German. This goes against his lovable and loyal self. xP!

I have characters named after biblical figures (A Cain, Abel and Seth respectively), rock stars and even movie/book characters. And then I have random translated words, and names I hear and think are cool. I really don't have any funky fantasy names, only random Japanese ones. I actually have a Maeve (last name is 'Slate', lawlz), who was inspired by Jim!Maeve except for the fact he is male, a cannibal, and enjoys stabbing people to death while having sex with them. 8D

...okay, maybe I should stop talking about my characters now. xP
