Author Craft / Re: Fanfic richer or poorer?

I didn't realize Mr. Butcher felt that way at all, but perhaps I'm wrong... still, if he does, why did he write a SpiderMan fan fic story?

I thought he has a contractual obligation to stay away from fan fic of his work, so as not to poison the well, so to speak. If a fan comes up with a plot he already intended to use and he sees it before writing it, it could cause problems with copyright infringement.

Me, I run a fan fic RPG site of Jim's world, though I've never written one of his characters. I don't feel I could do it justice. That said, writing consistently on that site has done wonders for my ability to build characters and plot and has really helped my writing.

Be sure to double check for homophones. Spell checkers are notorious for missing those. If you spelled the wrong word write, it doesn't care.

(heh, yes, I did that on purpose.)

Holy Jiminy!  :o I wouldn't have thought you could chop a story practically in half and still have it make sense.

If I remember from my typing class days, a "word" is standard 5 characters. Not sure if that helps you or not.

DFRPG / Re: Alternate Locations for Dresden RPGs
« on: March 02, 2008, 05:37:16 PM »
I think Detroit would be an excellent choice for a Dresden to down a major resurgence of Black Court Vampires.... or Skavis. And before you go there, I'm not suggesting Black Court because of the racial makeup of the city. Detroit is a wasteland full of the strongest and most cunning monsters in the world that mainly come out at night. It's also very oppressed by an all-pervading sense of despair.

Just a simple google search for the latest news on our despicable mayor should turn up all kinds of inspiration for Blacks or Reds in city politics.

Yes, I must admit, that's the biggest challenge I face when I write smut scenes... the descriptive options leave much to be desired... no pun intended.
