I believe Rick Neal (great blog with lots of DFRPG goodness on it) has a game set in Old World Europe; I want to say Budapest but you'd have to head there and check. Its a great idea.

You have no records, no proper ID, in short - You're so far off the grid you'd make a hermit blush.

Invoke to gain bonuses when being anonymous would be useful (like say dealing black-ops level secrets).

Compel Picked up by the cops, hilarity ensues.

Something I've been working on for a semi-psychotic psychomancer...
I've Lost My Mind... Do You Have It?

And what if you were a man with no True Name? Maybe you resonate different on the magical level and you attract a lot of undue attention... it would be a pretty awesome premise for a game!

So you want to be a Wizard

Character is a budding apprentice to a Wizard of the White Council

"I'm sorry Master, I know I'm a clumsy oaf..."
"Worse! You're a clumsy oaf with access to unstable chemicals!"

Invoke: connecting with other apprentices, knowledge of the inner workings of the White Council from the ground up, bonuses to Lore from having access to a Master's library of references...

Compel: responsibilities (gah, homework!), tiresome duties (I have to clean the skull again?!), all of which lead to stories of their own. Attract the attention of not-so-friendly apprentices from other not-so-friendly masters, Master using you for his own ends & machinations, you witness and hear things that you weren't supposed to (Is he really supposed to summon that... that thing?!) because you're just a mere apprentice. Loses control of magic... often. Spills dangerous liquids... often. Potions boil over... often. Things go boom... y'know. Often. Spells go off with unexpected strengths and effects. Makes rookie mistakes. Summoned things escape.

Lots to happen to a hapless apprentice.... and perhaps an even more fun Aspect could be, My Master Is A Bumbling Fool. So I'll provide that and another that I'm working on...

The Queen's Last Pathfinder

There would have to be some awesome reason why they have those huge, giant bells out in the middle of nowhere. Beyond just having to let a few yak and yeti know what time of day it is. Maybe they're the heartbeats of our mortal world or something.

Aspect is for a character who just gets there, or barely gets there just in time to save someone, get things done, or just finish it under the wire. Obvious compels would be tasks that would benefit from finishing early ... don't, or complications come up that tend to shift the time increment towards satisfying this aspect.

Any others that come to mind? Or a better & flashier name?

I mined some of the ideas in this thread to give the VU's a special acquisitions group... its a GREAT reason to have a bunch of tomb raiders and contractors who recover overdue books and misappropriated library resources from patrons who've neglected to return them to the library. Fun stuff!

Its one of those things that sets the tone of a game - I mean, its so larger than life and cinematic. I see those ancient sub machine guns with those stereotypical Tibetan pennants hanging from the handles, flapping in the breeze and inscribed with inscriptions... It could really be cheeseball, but look at the guns that Hellboy carries, it can be pulled off and with the right backstory it could totally be done.

If Final Fantasy can do gunswords... hell yeah, we can do Tibetan hitmen.

Faded Photo of Me and My Love

This is a great storyline Aspect, and its so evocative. It lends itself easily to a lot of angst, self-loathing and drama... she or he is either missing, dead or perhaps nobody knows, but the photo goes with the protaganist everywhere. I'd imagine there's great compel potential from adversaries who use the information they have about where this 'love' to force concessions and favours from the hero. Similarily, the hope or lure of this 'love' would pull them forward and perhaps bring them from the brink of a meeting with fate...

An urban combat/weapons specialist whose claim to fame is his/her participation in a high-risk hostage rescue at a major supermarket location

Invoke: tight quarters/urban combat, something similar to that SoTC stunt that allows characters to use any nearby small object as a weapon
Compel: the high body count from that event still haunts him - even though the part he played was very successful - and he can freeze (sorry!) at inopportune moments, the villians from that even have him in their black books, or he's recognized on the street from the highly controversial court case that found him not gulity, won't participate in fights in public areas like that, will try to draw the fight into an area with less casualty potential, or simply give up to save those around him

Look'Em In The Eye!

I second upgrading the Aspect from "Gun Fu" to something more detailed and flavorful. "Notorious Gun Fu Expert" is a great one.

Alternatively
--"The (not so) Ancient and Secret Art of Gun Fu"
--"Be the Bullet"
--"Mentored by an Secret Order of Mystical Tibetan Hitmen"
--"Lucy my .44, and Her Amazing Repertoire"
--"Trick Shot Master Specialist Extraordinaire" (because everyone loves redundancy!)

I kinda love coming up with Aspects. Just a bit.  8)

Bahahahaha, the first and the third ones slayed me...! Shopping carted :)

Love the tons of ideas here - you guys really came through with some great compels! I got a great laugh out of The Gun IS My Skill List!, I like The Notorious G.U.N. How about an homage to Bruce Lee to put that "gun-fu" feeling across? Something like Guns of Fury, Way of the Gun or.. or... well, y'know. Something along those lines.

Never seen the Sundance Kid, but awesome :) So, say, won't take a shot that's too easy. Has to load up on the style points with a trick shot. "Off the wall, wizard's shield, window sill, left eye."

Thanks for the ammo idea too, I'll throw that in as something compellable...

Every soul should have the chance to repent - and enemies are no different. I will be their dying comfort in their last moments on this earth.

Invoke:declare to hear revealing confessions, dying wishes and earth-shattering secrets that could destroy the world - and give you the key to save it

Compel: you have to keep promises made to the dying, that bad guy might just have a booby trap and he's taking you with him, a demon escapes on the last breath and enters the closest living vessel

Why Does Trouble Always Come In Threes?

As an addendum, I'd love to see more suggested situational aspects with invokes or compels; I seem to do OK coming up with story ones, but things that can be used in singularily dramatic moment are harder for me...

I Have a Permit For That covers a bunch of stuff. The Smyths as a whole have a lot of survival training. The family has an unofficial tradition of military service (particularly in special forces) and their own private security/military company, Smyth Solutions which can be an aspect, but not necessarily "Be prepared" is not accurate enough. Family sayings include, "Never walk into a play you don't know how to walk out of 3 ways" "Always know where your holy ground is" "Never go anywhere unless you have a right to be there" and "Always have handy a Knife, A priest and Explosives"
Which is why the Smyths are also Ordained Ministers (they think of themselves as "Baptist Lite")

I just wanted to chime in to say how awesome this is. Mining many ideas right out of this...!
