DFRPG / Re: Are Offensive Blocks Offensive?

I personally would allow it if the block was actually offensive, like the Orbius example in the book.

I was always under the impression that you could make very rough thralls with Evocation, renfields are spose to be made by beating the persons brains into submission, that sounds very evocationy. Also I wonder why the book relates corpsetakers mind attacks to kemmlerite necromancy...psychomancy really has nothing to do with necromancy.

Wouldn't athletics work for a kungfu attack? No running involved with that sort of thing.

If i remember correctly it was mentioned in "Restoration of Faith" that they were written 10-12 years before that story i think.

The only thing i can think of (dont have the books infront of me at the moment) is the conjuration portion of thaumaturgy.

Guys, i'd just like to point out that the rules do say "within reason" meaning if a 20 shift spell is dropped on a zone as in intended to kill the monsters (who are much more resiliant than the humans) its going to crush everyone in the zone, if a 4 shift attack is like a hand granade a 20 shift attack is like a mini nuke, it isnt "within reason" for people to survive that. As long as the player is aware that their action will result in the lawbreaker stunt i'm in agreement that they should get it.

DFRPG / spells doing more than damage

Is there rules for spells that inflict damage as well as throw people around? Like when harry hits people with force magic it hits and throws them into walls and such.

DFRPG / Resources and complexity
« on: October 24, 2010, 09:13:45 PM »
Hey guys, i'm still pretty new to the DFRPG but i was wondering if there were rules for, or if it seems fair to add a resource roll as complexity starts getting higher on a thaumaturgy spell. Currently it just seems like if you have a certain amount of time you can do pretty much anything, but i do believe that in the books Bob mentions that some ingredients for spells can get pretty expensive.

I dont know if i'd say that, couldnt you use the guns skill in a block, for instance "cover fire"?

I would say yes, the bullet is a purely physical object regardless of what threw it IMO.

I would have to say the jedi mind trick is a blatent violation of the laws of magic...someone needs to get the wardens.

I actually do think Denzel Washington could pull off Marcone. But I am not the first to suggest something like this, someone else earlier said Michael Clarke Duncan because he was Kingpin in Daredevil.

i'm not entirely sure that either of those pull off the fatherly coach look. I did have someone in mind but i cant for the life of me remember his name heh.
