Calendar Event Discussion / Re: Jim at DragonCon 2015: September 4-7
« on: July 21, 2015, 03:52:08 PM »
(does any author?)

That depends on how you want to define it.  A lot of really big authors (King, Martin, even Jim I think) often do events that you have to buy a ticket to attend, but can get a book signed afterward.  Whether you consider the cost associated as payment for hearing them speak for an hour or for the signature is a matter of semantics.

That said, all of Jim's signings at DragonCon will be free, you just have to wait in a (very long) line (or show up really early).

I cant find him listed on the website anywhere.  I cant go to Dragoncon, but I have someone that is willing ot take a book there for me to get autographed as long as i am taking care of any costs involved

He's still listed.  http://dragoncon.org/?q=guests#B  Scroll down a bit.

Priscellie: Any word on a potential early release of The Aeronaut's Windlass?

I just looked at my collection, I have zero books by Jim that need signing.  Unless the Cinder Spires book is available at con I can actually skip the signing lines...  Who would have thunk it?

Same here.  Hell, if the publisher does allow an early release, The Missing Volume will probably have several stacks of signed copies, meaning you can still skip the signing lines :).

I don't think Jim Butcher is going to be there for the whole Dragon*Con weekend, I heard he was only going to attend for an event or panel for one or two days.

I'd be interested to see your source on that, because that's an awful lot of travel and planning for such a limited stay.

The question was asked over in the Cinder Spires subforum, but I think it bears asking here, too.

Is there any chance of an early release of The Aeronaut's Windlass at DragonCon?

I dont actually know for certain, but I doubt it since he wont actually be there this year.

He was only recently added to the DragonCon guest lineup, so it's likely that thread just hasn't been updated.

I believe the initial contract is for three, and I'm fairly certain I've heard Jim say the story can be expanded to five or six books.

I imagine the usual suspects will make announcements closer to the release date.

Surprised that Amazon US doesn't have anything.

It's been my experience that they lag the UK site by a week or two (different publishers getting the release date to Amazon at different rates).

This is the point in the process where dates like that have a slightly improved chance of being right.

He's finished the book now and submitted it for editing/publishing things. We should have it in our grubby paws in another month and a half or so.

Other than that, does it really matter what happened? :)

Four to six months would be my guess.

The Humor in Urban Fantasy panel was the best thing I saw at Dragon Con.

I overheard Jim talking to someone after a panel about this.  He has six chapters left to write, then he'll turn it over to his editor(s).  He said publishers don't like to announced release dates until they have a manuscript in hand, so we should realistically expect to hear something by the end of October.
