DFRPG / Primer / cram sheet / handout (looking for)
« on: October 01, 2013, 10:00:03 PM »
Hi there

I'm looking to see if there is a document that I could hand out to those new to the dresden files that shows what would be reasonable to know if you're:
clued in vanilla mortal
vampire (of different ilks)
changeling
wizard
practitioner
werewolf (of various ilks)

My Google-Fu is weak today so thought I would come to the experts ;-)

Hi there

Nothing to do with the project but these do look quite nice.

BTW the method I mentioned (3 types of dice) would work well with the new dice they are selling.

White = Cautious
Green = Normal
Red = Wild

Just saying... :)

Yeah but being in the UK means that would cost around $40 per player + $30 shipping - as much as I like Dresden Files and Evil Hat that's a tad rich for my tastes.  Though should be more doable if DIYing but sorting out 12 dice per player pushes fluffy GM side to breaking point..  (sorting dice is a price I'll probably have to pay to get my group to play)

I remember what I was going to do with Reckless

+ +/- Blank  Blank  -/+    -
2   1   +/-    +/-     -1   -2

the result +/- means if the net outcome on the other dice are positive then they would add to your successes and vice versa. if the net out come is balanced then they count as 0.  Things will tend to having an extreme outcome (and as you probably wouldn't be being reckless if you fancied your odds other ways a neutral result will probably still be bad news, just not a disaster)

DFRPG / Ways to add to the dice mechanics

I am thinking of putting together my a set of dice (rather than normal Fudge dice) so I can incorporate an idea from Warhammer fantasy of having an 'attitude' to your roll, e.g. are you going in full tilt, you might throw your opponent off guard or they may read you totaly and you crash  and burn.

To do this I was going to add a little minus sign to one of the plus faces and a small plus to one of the minus sides and then the player would declare his attitude when rolling (the default is standard) and consult the following table:

                 Dice Face
Attitude    +    +/-    blank   blank   -/+     -
Cautious      1     0        0        0       0      -1
Standard     1     1        0        0      -1      -1
Aggressive   2     1        0        0      -1      -2
Reckless      2     1        0        0       0      -3

I'm still in two minds over Reckless, I think it is slightly better to do than the others stats wise.

What do you all think?

I've been looking into prices and the like, can you come back and say if you're good to go know of anyone else wanting some or whatever (there are about 400 set left on the webstore so we might need to move a bit quicker on this than I thought - which is both a good thing and a bad thing)

Myself: 2
Wordmaker: 1
Lord Entropy:1
Monley bloke: 1
Kuroshima: 1
Total 6 (current cost would be $19 per set approx)

Payment wise I'm thinking paypal, Kuroshima as there is a currency conversion involved paypal charge of 3.4% + 35c so if you up it to 12.50 euros each + pnp

Postage
Outside UK
with delivery confirmation £6.60 say €7
without delivery confirmation £1.70, about €2

Within UK
postage looks like it'll be £2.50

Packaging
50p for a jiffy
a bit more for bags big enough for boxes if you want those as well.

DFRPG / Dresden Dice..... Arranging large order to the UK
« on: November 07, 2010, 08:44:23 AM »
Hi everyone,

I'm not sure if you've seen that Evil Hat have some awesome dice for Dresedn out now
http://www.dresdenfilesrpg.com/2010/11/06/dice-preorder/comment-page-1/#comment-14994.

Shipping to the UK is $31, Fred has said he'll keep 10 sets back so they can be shipped en-masse to reduce the shipping per item.

I'm more than happy to act as the focal point for ordering for anyone else in the UK who wants to get any of the 8 (I'm ordering 2) sets remaining.

If you're interested we'll need to move pretty fast  $13 +$3.1 to get them to the UK aka £10 according to XE.com this morning.  If you're happy to be boxless I'm sure they will fit inside a Jiffy bag easily enough so another £1.50 or £2.50 to have the box sent as well for pnp? (I'll need to look into this).

Post here if you're interested so everyone can see how were doing (and mail me at chris dot lewis at yahoo dot co dot uk for the getting things sorted side).

Just an indicator for how fast we'll have to be: 90 have been pre-ordered in the few hours after my rss feed told me about the dice....

You can get sets of 4 in the UK but at £3 a go I've shy'd away hoping for a GM pack to pop up somewhere...

DFRPG / Re: DFRPG Fate Dice?

Well,

I've done some asking around some UK manufacturers and the price comes in around this ball park:
100 x 18mm custom dice with 4 special faces and 2 blank faces - 1.20 GBP per dice
100 x 22mm custom dice with 4 special faces and 2 blank faces - 1.52 GBP per dice
Royal Mail 1st Class will be a maximum of 4.25 GBP for the 22mm dice
Then VAT at 15%
Lead time at the moment is approx 3 weeks

So about £175 for a hundred (25 sets of fudge dice at 4 dice to a set) which is a bit steep but for me that's only really enough for 4 sets (based on 1 for the gm and 5 players), I'm sure we can get more.  Also they have cited what I asked for (+ & -) so having arcane symbol and skull may not be any more expensive.
If there were say 50 gms buying dice for their game say 5 sets on average that might make an interesting reduction to the cost though shipping round the world may make this idea null and void anyway.

But say if the following is met
People are prepared to pay up front but wait til  5 weeks before Origins for the order to go in (so order can be put in and shipped out so you have the dice in time for playing and hopefully more people can hear of it and add in orders to get the cost down more)
Choice is made on what the symbols would be (I think skull and star would be ok)
People are prepared to hand over say $15.00 per set to cover postage to cover purchase and shipping (with a return of any excess), I'm guessing the cost would come down a bit if we can up the order
then I'm happy to do the organising ;-)
