Jim and Shannon will both be signing.
-
I can't believe no one has posted in this thread!
I've just found out that I might be coming in for this signing... who else is going??
-
I had to register just to say, I'm so going to be there.
-
I am considering going... was wondering if anyone was driving in from the Ohio/Kentucky /Indianna area and wanted to carpool and split the gas exspenses.
-
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Boys and Girls,
Children of all ages...
The reservations are made...
Áine will be in the house!
(Well, the bookstore. You know what I mean.)
-
Whoo - hoo!
I'm happy for you Aine! I know you really really wanted to go!
-
*does happy, but in no way crazy or stalkery, dance*
-
O.o
-
I didn't know there was a thread lol
-

*pat pats Seth*
-
What would happen to me without the wimminz folk to keep me in line
-
You'd always be out of line? :P
-
LOL, you have no idea. I am truly in need of guidance
-
*does happy, but in no way crazy or stalkery, dance with Aine*
Ican'twaitIcan'twaitIcan'twait! ;D
-
None of us would ever be stalkerish... Its not like we are all grouping together to corner one man ::)
-

My lawyers have advised me that 'corner' is one of the words to avoid. In order to prevent "misunderstandings." :P :D
-
OMG... *Is scared for Jim* :D
-
LOL
Not to worry, MSD. Jim is well able to handle the adulation of his adoring fans!
This appears to be a most appropriate place for me to announce that I will be hosting a post-signing party at my home in Independence beginning about 8 pm Sat May 16th. Several out-of-town guests will be here, so this is a chance for us to meet some of our fellow fans in person. I will provide some snacks and soft drinks. Attendees are welcome to bring additional munchies. For thosse who want alcoholic drinks, it's BYOB.
I will attend the signing wearing my glittery green shamrock antennae so you can recognize me if we haven't yet met in RL. See me there or PM me for address, phone number & directions.
-
I'm sooooo bummed I won't be coming, Frogge! I would have loved to be there!
-
Alright, MSD, its your turn to come to KC next. ;)
-
Alright, MSD, its your turn to come to KC next. ;)
My flight has a layover in Phoenix. If MSD makes it to the airport, I can totally kidnap her.
-
She should fit into a carry on... :P
-
She should fit into a carry on... :P
*makes plan to cram MSD into the overhead compartment*
Think she'll settle during the landing?
-
How long is your layover? I'd totally come have coffee with you!

Well, if you don't mind coming to San Diego, it's about an hour. :D
-
Heh - Not a chance. San Diego's a 4 hour drive. I'm just not that into you! ;) :D :P
-
I'm so going to be there!
For those that don't know me, that is because I'm new here. ;D
I just picked up Storm Front for the first time a month or so ago, and am now working my way through Dead Beat. The funny thing is that I bought half of the Dresden Files books from the Barnes & Noble in Independence before realizing he would be coming to that store for a book signing. Looking forward to a fun time.
-
You'll have a blast. Just make sure you're insurance is paid up and you have a bail fund tucked away somewhere! ;) :D

Welcome to the Jim Butcher Forum! As you can probably see, there are a lot of different threads going on at once. Feel free to drop in on any of them that strike your fancy! The introduction thread might be a good place to start. See my previous post above and look for me at the bookstore next Saturday.

*opens mouth to object*
*closes mouth*
*writes note to take some extra cash*
;D
-
Yeah, you'd better not object. You're one of the main instigators.
And then with Seth and Mystic coming to the party... ::)
And to top it off Aine???
*wonders if I can mortgage my dog if necessary*
-
Li'l ol' me?
*bats eyelashes and tries to look innocent*
*fails*
*makes note to check kids' piggy banks in the morning*

Yeah, you'd better not object. You're one of the main instigators.

Uhhh.... no.... cash or collateral... well I guess it depends on the states law.. shold ask Them... cause he lives near there, not cause I think he has had to post bail... :P

Don't let'em worry you bud... you will only get into as much trouble as you can handle... we will not let the newbie get arrested on his first outing... we want you to come back... ;D
-
Now I'm just trying to imagine what kind of trouble could be gotten into at a book signing...
Guess I just lead way too sheltered of a life.
-

Naw... not at the signing... some of us are coming from WAY outta town to this signing... we is getting together after the signing, then the trouble might commense... come find us at the signing, the more the merrier... look for Bert, she will be wearing shamrock antenne

I know I am bringing bail money.... but I know me well enough to worry bout stuff like that... ;D
-
I don't anticipate anybody needing bail money because of activities at my place. What you choose to do elsewhere is not my problem. LOL
We can have plenty of fun without breaking any laws. *wink, wink*

Rest assured Milady Bert... I would never abuse your hospitality by bringing the law into your home... but you and I both know the type of crazies, myself included, that are coming out for this... I feel it best to have the cash on hand so I have a chance to talk our way outta whatever trouble us crazies do find... Boy Scout motto: Be Prepared ;D :D
-
So, I was thinking for the signing, I could get some name tags (Hi! I'm...) and then print our forum names and avatars on them, even do little green boxes and post counts to be extra silly. Then maybe people will ask about them at the signing and we can recruit people to our
cult...forum.
Too cool or too geeky?

Too cool or too geeky?
Who said the two are mutually exclusive? WAVE your geek flag!
-
I agree with Shecky - embrace the geekness that is us!! 8)
After we went to the Lexington signing, one of my coworkers commented, "I am not ashamed to admit, I was in geek heaven." Another started calling us the Nerds of the Roundtable.
<.<
>.>
ur rite, akshully ;D
-
Heh. I think one of the reasons I don't hesitate to be geeky in public is because when I was growing up, I was a geek AND a jock. Meant that I couldn't get successfully picked on like most of the geeks I saw. :D
-
Good Evening, my fellow geeks!
Time for the countdown: 3 days plus 3 hours until I meet A'ine at the airport! Yayyy!
3.5 days (approximately) until 'Michael' arrives in Independence.
_______ until Booklover and friend (name?) arrive in Independence.
Themostocles already lives nearby.
Soulless Mystic already lives almost nearby & will attend party.
DrygonDM already lives nearby.
I think your name tag idea sounds like a lot of fun, A'ine. Go for it!
Sorry you can't join us Shecky. Maybe some other time.
-
Hey, I'd like to make a recommendation to the folks getting together for Jim's signing there in Independence. I THINK you can get this there: if you can find it, I'd strongly suggest picking up some "Riverboat Red" wine. It's made by a winery ("Les Bourgeois") near Columbia, MO, and it's a sweet red. Normally, I loathe sweet wines. And the idea of a sweet RED is damn near anathema. But this... this is Kool-Aid for adults.
That is all. :D
-
I have a feeling that this signing is going to be epic, yay for two and a half hour drives solo from Saint Louis.
By the way, I'm Ender, also new here just solely because of the signing. Is it too late to sign up for the post-party entertainment. I can promise that if anything get's lit on fire, it's not my fault or if it was that I will make sure someone pays for it. ;D
I can't wait to see Jim! First signings with an author always get me a little dopey; if you see and eighteen year old wandering around like he's crazy, that'll be me.
-
Hello, Ender! Welcome!
No, it isn't too late to join the party! I'm wondering what you're driving, though that can make it from St. L to KC in two & a half hours. Last I checked, it's still about 250 miles between. A little less if you count from the west side of St.L to Independence. Drive safely, we want you to be intact when you arrive!
Look for me at the signing wearing my green glitter shanrock antennae. I'll give you the particulars there.
Bert
-
250 miles in 2.5 hours = 100 MPH. Holy cats! I've been on I-70, and you're doing well to maintain 70 MPH. Call it 3.5 hours.
-
Easy! He drives a DeLorean. :D
-
Easy! He drives a DeLorean. :D
Oh. Just hit 88 and everything is taken care of.
-
Hah, someone else on the planet says holy cats, I feel accepted already, haha.
I've just mapquested my way there and back and Mapquest tells me 3:39 but it's going to be a slight bit less than that as the speed limit itself is 70 so travelling the 194 miles of I-70 at about seventy-five to eighty would run me two and a bit more, add on some change for the on and offs it's looking like around three hours, not a bad drive.
I'm not sure what I'm wearing, I would so love to mock up some dresden gear for the trip, a nice six-foot duster, maybe a water pistol and a staff, some rings would be cool, but due to time shortage I wouldn't be able to give it the love it deserves so I'll stick with street clothes this time around. Next time though, oh yes, there will be an outfit. ;)
You reading this Jim? That means you HAVE to write another one so I can play dress up. :P
-
OH, trust me. He will write more. He WILL write more... if we have to raise him from the dead, HE WILL WRITE MORE!!!!
Please, Jim? :D
-
I'm off to see the Wizard, the wonderful Wizard of ... Wizards? Dres? Masochism? I'll figure it out on my way. See you all soon!
-
Oh my freaking god! You people are AWESOME!!!!
I called to chat with Seth and the gang at the signing and they PUT ME ON THE PHONE WITH JIM!!!!!!
-
WOOHOO! Can't wait to hear about all the hijinks. Have a great time at the party!
-

There are already pics up. That pic and quote of EBG? WANT.
-
I was there today, and since my return home, I've felt compelled to come here and say thank you to Jim and Shannon, for being so nice. I wasn't going to miss this for the world. You've both made this elf happy.
-
Hi All!
This is Jen from "Jen and Jon." I was in Independence today and met several forum members (sorry, I'm horrible at names). Just wanted to give you all access to the pictures I took today. You can find them here (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=113793&id=629382563&l=6f2a257283).
Thanks so much for including Jon, Tony, and I in your group today. We had such a great time meeting you all (and meeting Jim and Shannon, of course!). We did try to catch you at the bookstore at 6:00! Hope you all had a good time and everyone gets home safely!
Jim and Shannon -- you were so gracious and patient today! It was so good to meet you. Thanks for sharing your time with us. I hope next time we get the chance to hear you speak.

You came by the bookstore?? :-[ Did you go in and ask the lady about the party?
I can't believe we we missed you!!
-
jeniferj - So sorry we missed you at Blue & Grey.
Thank you immensely for sharing your photos with us. Hope we'll see more of you. Haven't gone through my pics yet, but will let you know when I do. I think I got at least one shot of you & Jon & Tony.

How are you doing, Ladybug?

We didn't get to the bookstore to a little after 6:00 due to pizza place snafu, but the bookstore owner was there. I'm very sad we missed you, but very glad you found your way to the forum.
I see on your facebook you met a great group of Dresden fans, you should have brought them over to sit with us, too! ;)
(We'll have to put up a pic of our round-table co-opting of the signing area, btw. Hehehe.)
-
Great Pix. Now I need to figure out who is who!

Thanks! We wandered around the store for a bit. I hate to be a weenie, but one of the reasons we didn't stay is because the store was really musty. I was concerned about my asthma/allergies in a prolonged stay. I'm sad we didn't get to hang out with everyone, though!

Galadriel - which picture? I'd like to know so I can file the mental image and recognize you at a future signing. Are you in the KC metro area? Or did you come from further away?
-
I live in Independence. It's a pic of the line, number 32. I'm the third from the right. With the hat. :)
It was really awesome to be there. (I admit my brain went blank when I got to the table, but it was great!)
-
Thanks. I can't see all of your face, but it's always interesting to meet fellow fans. I also live in Independence. Maybe we'll see each other at a future signing.
-
Yeah, I didn't know someone was going to post the pics up, or I'd have at least looked and smiled for the cam. LOL
I'd love to do it again that's for sure and meet some of you guys. :)
-
Watch for the new thread when the date and location of the next local signing is posted by Priscellie.
There are usually several every year in the KC metro area.
-

It's understandable, but so unfortunate you couldn't stay. You'll have to keep track of future events, as Frogge mentioned!
Sorry we didn't get a chance to talk to you, Galadriel!
-
So all the sojourners are home safely from the signing.
"So when where shall we three howevermany meet again?" ...
-
I know I don't post much, but I figured I'd drop in a little plug. On our next podcast we have a little audio clip of Jim that we acquired at this signing. That episode is all about the Dresden Files and we'll have a contest to win an autographed copy of Welcome to the Jungle. Its Dresden-tastic.
Anyway, that episode released next Monday but for this week we cooked up a little teaser trailer to hint at some of the goodness next week:
http://www.bearswarm.com/episode-58-teaser
By the way, the signing was awesome. :D
-
*waves to Rob*
I think I might have caught a bit of your audio... were you playing it for someone in the parking lot?
-
Yeah, I had a friend who refused to take the trip up so I called him to rub it in his face. What a great friend I am. Haha :D

Well if he really could have come and he refused, then he deserves it, at least a bit!
Too bad you didn't learn about the dinner gathering, or you would have had even more to rub in his face.
When did you get the recording, BTW? Was it just when you went up in line?
-
No exploding heads, unfortunately.
When we went up in line I told him we did a podcast and asked if I could got a little intro blurb from him. Then I mentioned we planned on doing an all Dresden discussion episode that night and he told me to get my recorder back out. He gave us the first line of the next book, signed out stuff, let us get a picture taken with him, then we were on our way back to Springfield.

Welcome to the awesomeness that is Jim. Just an all-around good guy.
-
Yep, he was absolutely cool at the dinner. We told him that we wanted to give him the chance just to relax and not have to answer questions, and he said something like "No, I know you have questions, that's why I'm here."
-
Oh man, I'm wicked jealous.
-
Oh. Wow. Sigh. (Silly fangirl sigh)

Hi Rob,
Were you there with Quasi-Spike? (Sorry, we didn't know your names.) I think I noticed your shirt.
Ah, well, there is always the next signing...

I'm not sure what a Quasi-Spike is... but, here's us (I'm the guy on the Right with the Watchmen hoodie)

-
Yeah, so the guy directly to your right? That would be quasi-Spike, lol. Not meant as an insult in any way!
Did you already do your discussion?
-
Yeah, we did the discussion episode that night after getting back from the signing. We do post-production this week and then release it next Monday. :D

Wonderful! I hope you'll come back and post a link for us. ;D
-
Welcome to the JB Forum RobJustice. Hope you'll stick around and join in the fun.
Like the hoodie. One of the things I bought Saturday was the Watchmen Graphic novel. I had never read any of it before seeing the movie, which I really dug. Also got the cd of the vocals soundtrack. I'm local here in Independence, so give me a nod when you get back up this way & maybe we can meet for lunch or something.
-
It's understandable, but so unfortunate you couldn't stay. You'll have to keep track of future events, as Frogge mentioned!
We will. All three of us are still a bit regretful that we didn't stay for dinner. But we had such a good day, it's hard to be too sad! :) Did Shannon make it to dinner? I really wanted to talk with her a bit more, but she was having her ear bent by a potential author :)
BTW, Ley (Aine?), where do we look at and maybe pick up some of your t-shirts??
-
Thanks for sharing those pics, Jen. I even caught a glimpse of myself in one of them. :D
No problem. Oh, and if any of you are familiar with "tagging" pictures in Facebook, please feel free to tag yourself or anyone else you know. It will help me learn and remember names!! :)

Yep, the signing was great in and of itself. Plus, you met a whole bunch of really fun people! :D
Shannon did not make it to dinner - Jim came with their son, Jay.

I am in the process of donating the art to this site, Jenifer, and once they have it up, it will be in the "fan shwag" section of the "store" section on www.jim-butcher.com. I think! ;D
It was great meeting you guys and I'm glad you all were able to find us and the forum! Yay!
-
Aine??? Seriously??!! You're donating the copyright to your artwork so that they can do shirts of it on CafePress. That's amazingly generous and awesome!
-

Jen - did you get my Private Message about people in your photos? When you're getting on the Forum at the home page, scroll down to the bottom just below the list of who all is on line now. Or go to the home page any time between threads.
There will be a message there if you have private messages (PMs). Click on the blue "here" to see your message(s).
I don't know anything about facebook really. How would I do a tag?
