DF Spoilers / Re: It didn't make sense to me (Harry/Starborn/created)
« on: June 17, 2021, 09:07:10 PM »
Q: How do you forge a weapon?
A: You heat the raw material to just short of the point of destruction then beat the hell out of it with a harder, heavier object to shape it into the desired form.
First Justin and HWWB, then Lea, then the White Council and/or Wardens were (theoretically) manipulated into being the hammers that pounded Harry into the desired form.

If there's a guiding hand behind the events in Harry's early life, the person behind this theoretical plan isn't protecting Harry because s/he is using the same underlying logic that Lea uses to explain the harshness of her training methods with Molly in Ghost Story.

Ooooh, I just thought of a nasty WAG on this topic... LTW will come back to Harry and tell him that he can't tell Harry about the Stars and Stones. Enter Nicky and/or one of the nickelheads who say that they will give him the information in exchange for a service.

DF Spoilers / Re: Who would you like to see face off?

As soon as I read the big revelation in Skin Game that the Genoskwa was in possession (or possessed by) one of the coins, I've been hoping to see a battle between the Genoskwa in full Denarian mode and River Shoulders wielding Amoracchius.

DF Spoilers / Re: What should happen to Rudolph?

Came across this posted on the dresdenfiles reddit, so credit goes to the original poster:

"Rudolph should get sent back in time to get slaughtered by the loup garou."

My WAG:
Rudolph will beat the rap, Harry will go vigilante on his ass, thus bringing him into conflict with the White Council.

DF Spoilers / Re: How do you see MM Harry being buffed?
« on: April 26, 2021, 05:31:13 PM »
Because Harry's has often been forced to work without foci since he became the Winter Knight, his magical control has probably become much better.  So, perhaps Harry Prime's control will make up; at least to some degree, Alt - Harry's advantage in raw magical strength.

I agree with you that Harry's control has become much better, and that could be an offsetting factor in the scenario I've posited. However, control does not equal delicacy. To go back to my original analogy, having excellent control over a chainsaw still doesn't help when the situation requires the precision of a scalpel.

I think Jim will go a different direction. Throughout the series Harry has depended on slinging ever-increasing amounts of power, but has always admitted that delicacy and subtle uses of power are the areas where he is most lacking.
My WAG for Mirror, Mirror is that whatever the situation is, it will require the focus and control of a neurosurgeon's scalpel, when Harry is most suited to and most used to wielding the equivalent of a chainsaw.

Anybody have an opinion on this?

DF Spoilers / Solution for Thomas?
« on: March 16, 2021, 06:00:16 PM »
Maybe it's just me, but isn't there a blindingly obvious solution to Thomas' condition that Harry is in a unique position to be aware of?
Harry knows about the situation between Irwin Pounder and his white court fiancée Connie. Irwin survived the first encounter when Connie's hunger awoke, which previously was inevitably fatal to the victim, and continues to be fed upon without ill effect.
So why doesn't Harry call in River Shoulders and his kin to see if one or more of them can feed enough energy to Thomas to stabilize him without endangering anyone's life? The Forest People can handle the drain without serious risk, even with Thomas' hunger in the negative feedback loop it seems to be stuck in.

DF Spoilers / Re: Murphy- [BG Spoilers]
« on: March 04, 2021, 06:51:30 PM »
I have a couple of favorite Murphy moments.

From Changes:
“Let me put this in terms that will get through your skull: My friend is going to save a child from monsters. I’m going with him. That’s what friends do, Harry.”

Also from Changes
"If you make some comment even obliquely alluding to menstruation or menopause and its effect on my judgment," Murphy interrupted, "I will break your arm in eleven places."

From Summer Knight:
"Karrin."
She looked up at me. She looked very young somehow.
"Remember what I said yesterday," I said. "You're hurt. But you'll get through it. You'll be okay."
She closed her eyes tightly. "I'm scared. So scared I'm sick."
"You'll get through it."
"What if I don't?"
I squeezed her fingers. "Then I will personally make fun of you every day for the rest of your life," I said. "I will call you a sissy girl in front of everyone you know, tie frilly aprons on your car, and lurk in the parking lot at CPD and whistle and tell you to shake it, baby. Every. Single. Day."
Murphy's breath escaped in something like a hiccup. She opened her eyes, a mix of anger and wary amusement easing into them in place of fear. "You do realize I'm holding a gun, right?"

Just to note, as soon as I saw the Huntsmen explained, I thought "Chronicles of Prydain!"

I had the same thought.

DF Spoilers / WAG/Scene I want to see in MM or future book
« on: October 03, 2020, 07:32:33 PM »
Rudolph's hidden backer gets him off on a technicality, Dresden says 'not just no, but Hell no', then goes vigilante, which brings Harry into conflict with whoever the White Council has surveilling him.

Where does Christmas Eve fall on the DF timeline? Before or after Skin Game?
